Title: Let's Talk Music...
Description: (insert subtitle here)

Rock-Onia - January 5, 2007 03:44 AM (GMT)
So, I guess I've gone and started a music discussion thread, talk about whatever kind of music related crap here. It can be the score of the Star Wars films, any new albums released, whatever. Rant about music here.

So have a blast, stay beautiful, PEACE.

And Panic Of The Disco sucks. ^_^

A couple general comments:

I'm mostly unenthused with "modern" rock music. I like plenty of bands--3 Doors Down, Staind and Avenged Sevenfold come immediately to mind--but my favorites fit into the "Classic Rock" genre, like Boston or Foreigner, or are older heavy metal, like Metallica or AC/DC.

The only artist I own all the albums for is Weird Al Yankovic. Some folks claim it's just "funny music" and that humor gets less the more you hear it--but in all honesty, his (and his band's) musical range is fantastic, playing everything from polkas to hardcore rap without a problem. I've always been more a fan of the "music" than the "lyrics" in general, so it appeals more to me to hear it done well.

Jack_Tarr - January 5, 2007 05:01 PM (GMT)
I like all kinds of music, from Rock to classics to folk and even a touch of country.

I can't stand rap and hip hop and much modern rock leaves me cold.

I really enjoy the real doo-wop from the late 50s and early 60's (sung acapella) and though many will argue that it is not really music, I really love sea shanties and focs'l tunes.

Absolutely there with you Red. I don't own any wiered Al, but I do own (with the excpetion of Sleeping With Ghosts which isn't that great and their greatest hits), all Placebo's studio albums.

A little known fact is that I really like Deep Dance and Trance - stuff like DJ Tiesto.

Get me a pair of white gloves a some glow sticks :bath:.

Omnivorous - January 5, 2007 07:37 PM (GMT)
ROFL! That headbanger is headbanging very slowly, looks like he's into his 60's
Sometimes slow down can be a good thing :D

I'm with Red on 80's heavy metal (Iron Maiden, Metallica AC/DC), I like my prog rock and metals too. Mainly older stuff, nowadays everyone's gone emo or lost their talent.

*Gels Carb's hair up and colours it glow in the dark purple*

That's weird, it looks fast to me...how many decades did you say you've had your computer...?

Wow - purple's my favourite colour :D. How did you know? You're not reading my mind again are you ?

Omnivorous - January 5, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
Red, it was a download slowdown, trying to open too many things at once :P

And if I am thinking what you're thinking and that what you're thinking is what I'm thinking... I'm hungry. Or you're hungry.

Or you want me to buy you a HMV voucher so you can get the latest Busted album.

I like some rock (shhh!), but the only two bands that I can really say I'm a "fan" of are Janitor Joe and Nirvana. I'm more into pop and stuff.

I only own 2 CD's--one by Britney Spears and the other one by the Pussycat Dolls. I refuse to buy Nirvana CD's and can't find Janitor Joe ones.

MySpace is good if you can catch bands out before they see how many people download their songs and stop you ripping them off :P

I've got maybe 80 albums in real, but most of those are copies as I'm cheap and a friend has 1000 on his computer. I've also got 90 from someone else which won't work on my MP3 player but will on my computer, even though they're the right filetype :(

(I've got 10 Iron Maiden albums, including their first 8, and all of Metallica's albums :P)

kana da - January 6, 2007 09:12 PM (GMT)
Yeah, MySpace is the only place I can listen to Janitor Joe. Unfortunately, they don't have the download feature available for that band. :(

Hamsters - January 7, 2007 03:54 AM (GMT)
I'm loving Lady Sovereign's 'Public Warning' album at the moment.

420_Celebrants - January 7, 2007 07:24 AM (GMT)
Carb - you'll have to send me some nice music some day. I'm quite into the Dark trance/Drum and Bass/Jungle stuff.

I own over 400 CD's, ranging from Billie (Piper from Dr. Who) to the aforementioned Weird Al to Kenny G to Gwar. I'm all over the place in my musical interests.

I wish I were still writing for some music magazine.

No problem :). I'll set some space aside to transfer it up to and from.

Parrrrtay - January 7, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
I have so many albums, 45's, 8 tracks, cassets and cd's that I can't even count them all and like 420 I'm all over the place in my musical interests.

j delight - January 7, 2007 09:39 PM (GMT)
I like some of every genre, including polka, opera and hip-hop. If there is a genre that gets to me on a regular basis, I'd say it's the Blues but traditional Native drum songs come in second overall.

Even Tibetan throat singing fascinates me...

Omnivorous - January 7, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
We're all weirdos!

 :hide:

canada6 - January 7, 2007 10:24 PM (GMT)
I  Blues.

And Jazz, and classical and classic rock, etc. The good stuff.

Redundancies - January 8, 2007 01:43 PM (GMT)
For anyone whose tastes run all over the place, one of my favorites is the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. It's a fusion of classical and heavy metal and they're absolutely fantastic. Their first album was a Christmas album that I've listened to, it has a lot of good songs on it--and apparently they've done other traditional stuff since then. I highly recommend checking them out.

I have a mix although I haven't used it in ages as I'm a completist (I listen to albums, not tracks)

Plus, I want to listen to a band, not bands that sound like them. And some really n00by people always make my channels fill up with rubbish emo metal

Hamsters - January 11, 2007 03:29 AM (GMT)
Yeah I agree there are some total n00bs on there, but thanks to Pandora I've discovered some great new artists that I wouldn't have otherwise. & it does seem to be improving all the time.

kana da - January 11, 2007 10:24 PM (GMT)
They didn't have Janitor Joe.

Rock-Onia - January 12, 2007 04:43 AM (GMT)
My music library consists of: Green Day (I've got every album and a documentary my dad gave me), The Rembrandts, Bowling For Soup, "Weird Al" Yankovic, The Beatles, The Doors, Monty Python, my friend's band Molotov Monday, and Bobot Adrenaline. I like Nirvana, but unfortunatley, I don't have any CD's. :(
I think that Motion City Soundtrack is pretty good, but my best friend is obsessed with them. I also think that Eric Clapton is pretty rockin'. BTW, I can tell you anything about George Harrison. He is my favorite Beatle, and his song "Here Comes The Sun" is one of my top 10 favorite songs by any artist, and my favorite Beatles song ever.

So, keep on rockin'!

Daemon - January 12, 2007 07:46 PM (GMT)
I've recently found that AFX/Aphex Twin has a new CD out, called Chosen Lords, from his Analord LPs. Kick ass.

canada6 - January 12, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
Well good afternoon Daemon. :D

Hey C6! What's happening in your world?

Rock-Onia - January 24, 2007 08:08 PM (GMT)
I bought Nevermind on Friday, so now I can add Nirvana to my library. :fonz:

kana da - January 24, 2007 09:29 PM (GMT)
Way cool! FB sent me In Utero from his computer, so now I have a Nirvana album. Well, sort of. "Pennyroyal Tea" didn't transfer, and I still need "All Apologies."

Rock-Onia - January 24, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)

kana da - January 24, 2007 11:35 PM (GMT)

Parrrrtay - January 24, 2007 11:39 PM (GMT)
Did he apologize for not sending "All Apologies" ?

kana da - January 25, 2007 01:10 AM (GMT)
Actually, no, because he thought I already had it. I did, but I deleted it before I realized that he wasn't gonna send it.

420_Celebrants - January 25, 2007 02:32 AM (GMT)
Anyone with MySpace, check out a band called Sex In Cars. It's my friend Kerry's band and it's pretty ecclectic ... but cool.

Kiljarit - January 25, 2007 02:36 AM (GMT)
My music is in a really wide range, or as i tell some people it goes from Josh Groban, Gavin DeGraw and Benny Goodman to Metallica, Nirvana and Rammstein.

kana da - January 25, 2007 02:54 AM (GMT)
Me too! On my MP3 player I have Britney Spears, The Pussycat Dolls, Maroon 5, Nirvana, and Janitor Joe, among others.

Rock-Onia - January 25, 2007 03:23 AM (GMT)
Oh, yeah, Britney Spears is dead. I killed her. With a sledgehammer. And bubble wrap.

MWHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kana da - January 25, 2007 03:38 PM (GMT)
With what she's been up to lately, I would call that a mercy killing.

RO--do you prefer In Utero or Nevermind?

Parrrrtay - January 25, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
My nephew's band Lemon Test
