Title: Forum problems

Carbanousa - November 16, 2006 06:30 PM (GMT)
It appears as though InvisionFree are experiencing server difficulties at this time.

While it may be frustrating that the forum is a bit 'wonky', I would like to ask that everyone just bears with it as I am sure that InvisionFree are working to rectify the problem and that we are grateful for the excellent service provided so far.

In the meantime, it might be worth not frequenting the forum as often to put a little less strain on the forum. Once the forum is up and running again, an Email will be sent via the Admin CP to let everyone know.

I'm not even sure that this will be uploaded, but it's worth a shot.

I think there still is there are missing posts in the WC

As I'm sure many of you may already know, Server 1 suffered a hard drive failure today. As it is one of our last servers to be updated it unfortunately remained vulnerable to a hard drive failure. Our other servers have been previously updated and do not have the same issue.

For those of you with an S1 board, we have restored as much data as possible from various sources. Some settings may be out of date and newer posts will be missing. A notice will display in topics with missing posts. We are cautiously optimistic that all remaining data will be restored over the coming days.

On a more positive note, the general release of ZetaBoards will not be delayed in any manner by this incident. In fact, several features in ZetaBoards were designed to help mitigate and prevent any potential damage caused by an incident like this.

If you have any questions regarding your Server 1 board, feel free to open a ticket and we will be glad to answer your concerns.

And of course while the Invisionfree server is down we have all been using our time productively to RECRUIT, haven't we? Hmmmm? ;)

Jack_Tarr - November 17, 2006 04:28 PM (GMT)
Ummmm sorry, I can't seem to take my eyes off your new avi. :P

Carbanousa - November 17, 2006 06:30 PM (GMT)

The forums buttons and markers will slowly be rebuilt. I need to find the hard copy that I made during the forum change first though.

Carbanousa - November 17, 2006 07:08 PM (GMT)
It is with some sadness that the physical copies of the old buttons and markers I have are not recognised by the board. As you can probably see, there are multiple instances of the 'Add Reply' button.

As an interim measure, the default images (the blue ones) will be added to ease navigation in post making.

Parrrrtay - November 17, 2006 07:11 PM (GMT)
WOW!
Who spiked my coffee with acid?

Carbanousa - November 17, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
I have just had another idea to restore the old images but it will take a while.

Omni has kindly offered to upload some of the missing emoticons, so we should be back to a more useable state by early Saturday GMT.

Omnivorous - November 17, 2006 07:32 PM (GMT)
If anyone else has any other Smilies that I haven't got covered, please upload them to Photobucket or ImageShack or any other secure server as .GIF files and send the HTML to Carb ;)

I would have done fonz: but it obviously doesn't work :(

Carbanousa - November 17, 2006 07:37 PM (GMT)
Please bear with the abundance of the 'New Topic' button. The problem will be sorted soon :).

Add Reply is back!

I think this should be split into a topic covering Smilies and the address given by Carb.

*Attempts to do a fonz again but it won't work*

Thats a relief. For a second I thought the Americans were invading to take our precious donuts and far superior beer.

Hamsters - November 18, 2006 06:27 AM (GMT)
It could have been a lot worse...everybody's post counts could've been reset to zero...

Over the past 3 days we have been working on keeping the data recovery process moving along. We expect to have additional updates every few days. The recovery process is expected to take 1-2 weeks.
We are increasingly confident that the remaining lost posts and uploads will be recovered.

While we are awaiting an update on the recovery, we will be going over and expanding our plans on the actual return of any recovered data. We hope to present at least two recovery options to the affected board owners. We want to give board administrators flexibility in choosing what will work best for their own community.

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to working with the affected boards.

FAQ and Guide for Affected Boards

Should I post in a "broken" topic? We recommend that you continue posting in a separate topic. Once the broken topic is recovered you can merge it with the new topic to make 1 topic again. However, you can post in a broken topic, especially if you just want to make a temporary post (for example, a link to the topic where the discussion is continued).

Can I move topics? This is not recommended, though if you must you can.

My board's name changed. Can I change it back? Yes, you should change it to the name you want to use.

Will PMs be restored? Yes.

Carbanousa - November 18, 2006 07:47 PM (GMT)
The pips are currently being re uploaded. There has been a slight change, in that the 20,000 post pip is now animated and the old 20,000 pip has been used for the previous level.

We would be making and merging tons of threads. Might be better to not post until this is all cleared up?

I agree, only post in topics that have been started since this mishap (such as this one!)

Yes. If people can refrain from posting in threads that were started before March 2006 that would be great. I know that some popular threads such as those in Standing Around The Water Cooler are going to be difficult, but it makes both InvisionFree and the onsite Admin teams work easier to ensure and to merge the threads and topics.

In short, if you can remember the last post in a thread such as "Word association", it is best to create a nerw thread with a similar name (Word association 2, for example) so when the lost posts are restored, the two threads can be merged easier :).

I know this may be a lot to ask, but I hope and trust that everyone will both understand and appreciate the difficulties being encountered at this time.

It's ok.

*wonders if she's already screwed up*

We're lucky we're getting it back and we should all just wait it out with patience. 'Tis a free board, after all. We need to back up the whole forum somehow. I know it can be done, I just don't know how. :P

:D

So I will start with a 'How was your day?  Part 2'  So we can still post how our days are going...

Copy to Prime Minsiters Forum, Forum Problems thread.

Cool. When the restoration is complete (however it may turn out) we can merge the two threads.

May I suggest the creation of a new forum with another host for recordkeeping purposes?

j delight - November 20, 2006 05:28 AM (GMT)
Ooops... can't imagine going that long without the good stuff that is Canada. I don't usually read the gov threads first.

We will be performing server upgrades for s1,s12,s15. The upgraded servers will be faster and more reliable.

We are awaiting the delivery of the new servers. They should be arriving in approximately 12 days. We will schedule the time window for the upgrade as soon as we have a more clear date. The upgrade will take approximately 4 hours for s1 and s12 and 2-3 hours for s15.

If you are using a custom domain name on your s1/s12/s15 board you will need to point it at the new server's IP Address. Instructions for this will be posted here once the transfer is complete. Until you change your domain name, your primary domain name will be set to s(1/12/15).invisionfree.com/boardname/ so that your users can still reach your board.

These are the last server upgrades to be done. All servers will have been upgraded.

Thank you for your patience during this upgrade.

I wonder if they'll actually *all* be done, or they'll just ... you know ... do all of them except one and just hope that it doesn't crash.

They seem to be good with doing that.

Green-ville - November 20, 2006 08:10 PM (GMT)
We've got some of the same problems in Texas too. Posts, smilies, the whole lot.

Over the next day or so, you may see that some of the old popular threads and threads that were used after March 2006 are closed, but left in their forum. This is so that should the missing posts be restored, we can merge the two similar threads together for continutation :).
