Title: The Senate
Description: Where retired politicians hang out

bweezy - March 2, 2004 04:31 PM (GMT)
I've decided to create a fun government related thread that is congruous with political life in Canada.

Welcome to the Senate, where old, senile has-beens can hang out and shoot the breeze. We have prune juice in the fridge, and extra boxes of "Depends" in the top drawer.

Currently, this will be the Domain of The True Domination, and any other has-beens that may pop in from time to time. However, I am looking forward to joining this exclusive club on the morning of March 29th.

This looks like something I qualify for. See you this weekend Bweezy. We can swap tales about when we were young and influential. :D

For some reason, some Art Bergman lyrics come to mind:

I'm a never-was
Trying to be a has-been
Has-been on the comeback trail

bweezy - March 29, 2004 05:24 PM (GMT)
Laughs in glee at not being in the middle of the current diplomatic fire for a change :)

Time for a nap in my nice new comfy senator's chair... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......

bweezy - April 4, 2004 09:48 PM (GMT)
...ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

*wakes up*

I'm getting really used to this whole Senator thing...

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Checkers McDog - April 4, 2004 10:01 PM (GMT)
It appears as though you had fallen asleep for an entire week....must be nice :D

bweezy - April 4, 2004 10:18 PM (GMT)
Zzzzzz. wha? Oh yeah. Sleep for a week at a time is really nice...'

Why do I have the sudden urge to drive real slow, watch "Matlock" and complain about my small pension?

Candia - April 5, 2004 12:42 AM (GMT)
Blame it on the NDP?

bweezy - April 5, 2004 12:44 AM (GMT)
Ha, not in the least.

I subscribe to the old adage of "Don't blame me - I voted NDP"

hudson bay - October 31, 2004 12:38 PM (GMT)
Well I have been in the cabinet and am currently retired, this thread seems like the place for me. I thought I'd come and join Bweeze (even though he's an acting Minister at the moment). Hope this won't be considered grave-digging

* sits down in a nice overstuffed chair and opens the paper *

Now that I have become a member of the "Senate" and finding myself in the unique position of being new to the region but with a historical perspective, I thought I would make a little speech.

I have read Bweezy's latest history of the region post and have reviewed many of the more recent posts. To put it simply I am quite impressed at how well the region has progressed. The current governing group seems quite capable. More precisely, I continue to be impressed with the quality of Bweezy's leadership.

I know that Bweezy is a bit modest and is embarrassed by complements but he deserves them none the less. Bweezy's positive outlook and all around nice guy manner are at the core of this region's success. While none of this is news to the members of this forum, I wanted to take full advantage of my current vantage point to congratulate him on such a fine job.

Bweezy – you are a scholar and a gentleman and I salute you!

Hope you don't mind me joining you boys. :D

How's a girl get a drink around here? :P

Would you mind if I borrowed the editorial pages, hb?

^_^

hudson bay - October 31, 2004 01:18 PM (GMT)
Ess I thought it was us Senators who were the only ones with opinions that mattered. Ha, Ha, Ha. You are certainly welcome the editorials for those lesser media opinions...

* signals to have a pot of tea brought to Ess' table *

:D :P

Thanks kindly for the tea!

mmmmmmmmmmmm ^_^

hudson bay - October 31, 2004 01:26 PM (GMT)
You are quite welcome. I do hope you'll stay for lunch.

That is one of the problems of being retired - ones next meal takes on such importance. ^_^

Ess - October 31, 2004 01:40 PM (GMT)
I do believe I will stay for lunch, thanks! :)

What's on the menu?

Bweezy's positive outlook and all around nice guy manner

THere are plenty of people both in and out of this region who would disagree with that characterization...

hudson bay - October 31, 2004 04:05 PM (GMT)
Funny, I did read some of the older incident posts AFTER I posted that

Guess I'll take the position that beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;)

hudson bay - November 8, 2004 12:20 PM (GMT)
Say I really like these new senate smoking jackets. Nice dark red color. Perhaps we should cut back on the white trim. It reminds one a little of Santa. Still quite luxurious.

bweezy - November 8, 2004 01:26 PM (GMT)
There are senate jackets? I only wore a bathrobe and slippers when I hung out here.

hudson bay - November 8, 2004 01:38 PM (GMT)
The jackets are new. Here try one. They are very nice - crushed velvet. However, slippers may be a bit over the top... <_<

bweezy - November 8, 2004 02:42 PM (GMT)
Do I get a pipe too? Like those cool looking fifties professors?

hudson bay - November 8, 2004 08:35 PM (GMT)
Sure have a pipe - might make you look a bit like Hugh Heffner

bweezy - November 8, 2004 08:36 PM (GMT)
Lord knows I have the hair of a porn star (inside joke - one of my nicknames growing up was "Porn Hair")

hudson bay - November 9, 2004 07:38 PM (GMT)
Senator Porn Hair

Please sit down, have a glass of sherry and lets have a little light conversation. Tell me what do you think of the current geopolitical situation in NS?

bweezy - November 9, 2004 07:44 PM (GMT)
In short, it's too Pacific focussed, and there aren't any real international institutions that would allow multiple regions to discuss issues of mutual importance. But then again, I've been harping about that one for months now.

btw, I'll refrain from putting on my "Senator's Jacket" until my replacement term in Cabinet ends (which could be as early as today).

kana da - November 25, 2004 12:45 PM (GMT)
How far in advance does one have to order one of those fancy nameplates?

hudson bay - November 26, 2004 02:03 AM (GMT)
Nameplate? I didn't receive a nameplate - hmmm...

kana da - November 26, 2004 02:54 AM (GMT)
What? No nameplates? :o

I suppose you're all too lazy to order them in, eh?

I'll bring some for all the current Senators when I make my permanent home here.

kana da - November 27, 2004 03:37 PM (GMT)
She walks into the Senate Room, her heels click-clicking on the floor. She is dressed in a pink business suit, feminine yet professional. She smells vaguely of hair spray. She takes a seat at a desk.

Well you know what happens when you have Senators without any staff -- NOTHING!

kana da - November 27, 2004 05:41 PM (GMT)
She passes out name plates to all the Senators. She takes a seat at a desk and pulls out a big thick book. None can see that she is actually reading a comic book.

bweezy - October 24, 2005 04:12 PM (GMT)
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

*Translation: our senators are still hard at work*

(I'd forgotten that this thread existed)

hudson bay - October 24, 2005 04:19 PM (GMT)
Damn, since I'm in the cabinet I guess that means I'm no longer retired. I'm going to miss the afternoon brandy, chasing secretaries and long naps.

Carbanousa - October 24, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
Wow...

Redundancies - October 24, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
Hey, now that I'm retired (for now), I can take Hudson's spot.

*settles into a leather chair* Ahhh, that will do nicely...

Ess - October 24, 2005 05:50 PM (GMT)
*settles into another cushy chair*

*nods to Red and looks for a waiter*

B) :fonz:

Parrrrtay - October 24, 2005 06:15 PM (GMT)
Well don't look at me I am not waiting on y'all

*Unplugs the phone so I can't be called back to duty*

Redundancies - October 24, 2005 06:48 PM (GMT)
*the waiters bring the drinks*

Hiya, Ess, Shay--how are you two lovely ladies doing?

Ess - October 24, 2005 07:07 PM (GMT)
*takes drink* *nods in thanks*

Doing not too badly, thanks. Yourself?

*drinks drink* :P

hudson bay - October 24, 2005 07:14 PM (GMT)
Interesting take on being Deputy MoDB, that it is considered being retired

You must have the best position in the world. It's a job but it's the same as being retired and it involves doughnuts and beer. How can it get any better than that?
