I love soccer. I'm in! Not sure I know how to play this game too well but I'll learn as I go along. I must warn you I'm a really sore loser.
You might want to spread this around the forum regional MB somehow.
NoFunNinjas - January 6, 2006 05:51 AM (GMT)
i moved the thread to the RP forum.
Boreal Tundra - January 7, 2006 04:38 AM (GMT)
Boreal Tundra would be pleased to enter it's national team. Colours are blue and red.
canada6 - January 7, 2006 04:43 AM (GMT)
What exactly do we need to do to sign up though?
NoFunNinjas - January 7, 2006 07:43 AM (GMT)
i dont know yet. i need to know how many people in canada are interested in this so Kericia (the person from 10KI in charge of this there) can set it up. i will let everyone know what to do then.
Omnivorous - January 7, 2006 08:30 AM (GMT)
NoFunNinjas - January 7, 2006 10:42 PM (GMT)
Update:
Kericia sent me this this morning
I was just at your forum and it looks like a couple more people joined. cool. And you can tell canada6 that you don't need anything to signup, but you can post a roster, team colors, etc if you want to, that is. As for when I want the competition set up by, it doesn't really matter. We can end signups sometime next week.
Boreal Tundra - January 8, 2006 01:46 AM (GMT)
Do we sign up on their link or just here? Further, can we set up a mirror forum between the two regions such that all postings will be available to both regions?
NoFunNinjas - January 8, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
you dont need to sigh up at all, and as for a mirror forum i would have no idea how to do that.
Kericia - January 8, 2006 03:13 AM (GMT)
You can sign-up on either forum, it doesn't matter which. Secondly, if you could set up a "mirror forum" that would be great, because I don't know how to. If you can't, then I'll just have a thread here too.
Omnivorous - January 8, 2006 10:16 AM (GMT)
Oooh can I have the colours of predominately Blue with Orange and Yellow vertical stripes?
NoFunNinjas - January 8, 2006 10:52 AM (GMT)
uh...i think you get two colors
but you can imagine yourself having any colors you like :P
Omnivorous - January 8, 2006 01:21 PM (GMT)
Boooo! I want my flag to be my colours. Blue and orange then. *Hmph*
Durass - January 9, 2006 05:43 PM (GMT)
Durass will send it's national champions, the Lancers. Colours are Black and Red. Roster to follow.

Kericia - January 9, 2006 09:27 PM (GMT)
added. and if more than 16 nations sign up, that's okay too.
canada6 - January 10, 2006 01:44 AM (GMT)
Allright. If I get two colours then I'd like blue and red. I'd like to call my team the Canada6 Maple Jays. :)
How exactly do we "play" the game though?

Okay, here's how the tentatively-titled 'Maple-Taco* Cup' will be run:
This competition will be similar to the
NS World Cup and
Cherry Cup, if you're familiar with those. To score all the games, I'll be using
NSFootySim. Now, you don't have to do anything, but you can RP if you want to.
*the Taco part comes from Taco Island, the rough equivalent to Standing Around The Water Cooler on the 10000 Islands forum. Also, the Taco is the regional currency.
edit: Hey, what's the WTC under my name mean?
NoFunNinjas - January 11, 2006 03:27 AM (GMT)
it means Welcome to Canada
canada6 - January 11, 2006 06:00 PM (GMT)
Sounds good. I'll probably be registering yonder to follow up and participate.
Kericia - January 12, 2006 08:07 PM (GMT)
Would you all prefer to register at the 10KI forum for a thread there (or vise versa) or should I have separate threads for each forum? Personally I think separate threads sorta defeats the purpose of an interregional cup, but I'd like to know what you think.
NoFunNinjas - January 13, 2006 01:06 AM (GMT)
i personaly dont see two threads being a problem.
Durass - January 13, 2006 05:22 PM (GMT)
Either or for me. If the concensus is to register in 10KI I will. Even if not, I may post as guest there (I will ID myself if I do, of course.)
Kericia - January 18, 2006 03:22 AM (GMT)
I think I'll have the 'group draw' tomorrow afternoon (EST) with 15 teams (3 groups of 5). I'll post it in here and in the other forum, and we will start thursday, and I will post a link to the thread over there.
NoFunNinjas - January 18, 2006 10:51 AM (GMT)
awesome, that sounds good.

Hey folks, in the 10000 Islands Embassy under the Diplomacy section, I will have the latest news on the Maple-Taco Cup. Team stats, press conferances, game scores (of course) general news reports, possible friendly rivalries and more. The winner of the Cup gets 5,000 Tacos, the legal tender of the 10000 Islands.
Please come to the Embassy, all are welcome.
Lastly, the games look good, Islands and Canadians are evenly matched. Group 1 has two ties, Group 2 has two Islander wins, and Group 3 has two Canadian wins. Details in the Embassy.

 Can I drool over tacos? Or is it reserved for some other 'saucy' stuff?
I'll sign up I think. I could also get some team info - creating football teams and giving them fictional names was the only thing I did when I was smaller...
SensitiveMadScientists - January 21, 2006 01:13 AM (GMT)
With interest like this, there should be a second cup.
Oh, reports on the Maple-Taco Cup are here now.

Ponung Büsskür B.K.
Some team info:
Stadium;
Gustaf Heinzemann Von Fritzenbaumer Arena
capacity; 45 000 total, 20000 standing
A football-only arena that sports a pub, two restaurants, a souvenir shop. It is notorious for its many fast food stands that sell beer, and lots of different sausages; bierwurst, bratwurst, hotdogs, chorizos... The best atmosphere can be found among the home supporters in the west stand, some say there's nothing like beans and a bratwurst in the west stand, in the midst of singing Büsskür supporters.
Bigger games can be played at the Alfonian National arena, an 80 000-capacity all-seater.
Coach:
Count Hans Johann Hünkelflieger
A 53-year old midfield legend turned coach heads the team. In his sparetime he collects zeppelins and also pilots them. He sports a large moustasche and often appears in the media dressed in a leather jacket and a pilot's scarf.
The lineup; age after name.
Goalkeepers:
1. Dan Lind, 24
31. Dan Gunnarson, 16
Defenders:
19. Rune Mossberg, 22
4. Egil Österlund, 21
5. Joakim Bengtsson, 23
28. Esiquio Morales, 24
22. Mikael Ekegren, 17
Midfielders:
27. Eduardo Bara, 24
3. Rikard Hamberg, 23
20. Aleksander Lund, 17
32. Gunnar Olsman, 16
11. Bertil Magnusson, 24
Strikers:
2. Douglas Vesterberg, 23
29. Mikael Berglund, 28 (team captain)
24. Kenneth Berg, 20
25. Håkan Åström, 20
A very young team, PB B.K's future looks bright. The team utilizes a 4-3-3 formation, with much of the play built on the strong defenders Egil Österlund and Esiquio Morales, and the excellent scoring ability of Mikael Berglund. Aleksander Lund, at a mere 17 years of age, is already a star in his own right, and works very well as an offensive midfielder, along with the excellent passer and defensive midfielder Eduardo Bara.
A team of the people and the nobility, Ponung Büsskür is the pride of the alfonian capital, Kung-Pung, and rumours say many games are visited by a disguised crown prince Alf III of Alfonia.
more info about individuals etc. to come...
(Sorry about pictures, I can't seem to view the pictures by themselves now.)
SensitiveMadScientists - January 21, 2006 09:36 PM (GMT)
Allright here we go.
The canada6 Maple Jays would like to announce that the General Manager and President is none other than...
Ken Dryden.
His days of being the Canadian Minister of Social Development has let him down and he's willing to try a new sport other than hockey, hoping that it will give him a fresh new start in his career.
"I'm ready to go and eager to bring a positive never say die atitude to the tournament. The team better be prepared to roll up it's sleeves."
The Maple Jays' head coach is none other than Jose Mourinho. The greatest soccer coach on the planet.
"My team has top class players, top class fans, a top class president, a top class stadium and if you shant mind my saying so... a world class coach."
Well so much for modesty says this reporter. :o
The Maple Jays will be playing in their brand new state of the art soccer stadium that seats 65,000 fans.
Red Leaf Park.
A staff member from President and GM Ken Dryden's office has announced that the team's roster will be announced shortly.
SensitiveMadScientists - January 21, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
Algal States Epiphytes
Head coach: Albert Theriault
Colours: brown and yellow
Stadium: The epiphytes play out of the old North Algal States national stadium, a 30 year old covered stadium that is supported by pylons on the edge of harvester harbour in the capital city of Letete. With seating for 30000 it was an engineering marvel in its day but has since fallen into disuse with just enough funding to keep it from falling into the harbour. The stadiums' one saving grace is that it was built to amplify any noise within its walls and as such can be a very hostile atmosphere for opposing teams. The team hopes that if it is successful in this tournament that the government will release the funds for the new 60000 seat stadium that has been in planning for 15 years.
The team: Coach Al, as his players know him, employs a 5-3-2 (00C:guess i forgot how to count. lol.) formation that depends heavily on defence. His defensive line has been called "a brick wall" by the national newspapers.
The midfield is average in depth but not too spectacular and the offence is dependant on the star power of the extremely capable Amirault twins.
Roster anounced:
Goalkeepers-#1 Frank Foote (s)
#30 Albert Cormier
Defence-#2 Joe "the block" Albert (s)
#3 Cameron Smith (s)
#4 Max "surefoot" D'eon (s)
#5 Mike Deveau (s) (captain)
#6 Steve Thomas
#7 Dave Theriault (s)
Midfield-#11 Robert Comeau (s)
#12 Fred Simpson (s)
#13 Josh Grant
#14 Robert Theriault (s)
#15 George Bent
Offence-#22 Louis Amirault (s)
#23 Thomas Amirault (s)
#24 Patrick Deveau
(s)-denotes starter

Sinn's Fenian Warriors (the Regional Reserve Chairman's team) play all their home games at Lansdowne Road Stadium in Dublin, despite the imminant upgrading and modernising the pitch will soon play host to. It holds several people :) Though statistics are at this time unforthcoming at best. Given the team's newly assembled nature, and a lack of knowledge about the game, numbers have been asigned in decending order.
The Team includes:

Coach: Leftie -former winger '76-'83
Goal Keepers:
Paddy O'Brian 1
Johnnie O'Toole 2
Defenders:
Simon Costello 3

Sean O'Neill 5
