Title: UN Proposal - Repeal Save the Forests of the World
Carbanousa - December 29, 2005 07:57 PM (GMT)
This poll will be up until Monday, December 26th, 2005. At that time I will cast my votes based on the outcome of this poll.
Remember, voting is only open to residents of the region of Canada, and you may still only vote once no matter how many nations you have in the region, or how many off-site forum accounts you have.
"A proposal to repeal a previously passed resolution"
Category: Repeal
Resolution: #48
Proposed by: Fonzoland
Description: UN Resolution #48: Save the forests of the World (Category: Environmental; Industry Affected: Woodchipping) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.
Argument: The General Assembly of the United Nations,
COMMENDING the assumed intentions of Resolution #48, “Save the forests of the World”;
DEEPLY COMMITTED to guaranteeing the sustainability of the world ecosystem, namely by the preservation of forests; yet
REGRETTING the confusing, discursive and unconstructive nature of said Resolution;
NOTING that it does not mandate or recommend any course of action to further the cause of sustainability, rendering it ineffective;
ACKNOWLEDGING the clear overlap between the assumed intentions of its author and the mandate of Resolution #23, “Replanting Trees”; and
DECLARING that ambiguous and ineffective legislation threatens the credibility of the UN, especially when in duplication of previous legislation;
Voting Ends: Sat Dec 31 2005

Carb - I suggest editing the main subject to reflect that this is a proposal to REPEAL the Save the Forests of the World bill.
It can make a whole world of differences when people see REPEAL in the subject.
I'd also like to see how the region voted for the orginal proposal.

I think you got the first dating a bit wrong - it shouldn't say the poll will end three days ago in one place and two days into the future in another.
420, I made that mistake and mindlessly voted for. *Shakes fist at Carb*
Anyway, I do not support this as an area of rainforest the size of Belgium is cut down every year - I say we just dump our waste in Belgium instead.
Being an eco-nut there are many benefits of rainforests, including many chemical uses that can be used to help ourselves. Only a 10th of all plant species are estimated to have been discovered and we have the ability to use these to help cure illnesses in third world countries.
Deforested land is used primarily for grazing, and as over-grazing is a large problem, fertile land can be ruined and made unusable for over 100 years until soils naturally return. This causes a huge effect on grass species as well as animal that we don't even know exist.
To combat losses by deforestation I say we step up in recycling programs not only in paper, but in glass, aluminium, tin and clothing.
I say vote against so we can learn more about our environment rather than destroy it.

I would encourage all canadians to vote for this repeal. the bill that is being repealed does nothing to save the environment.

As it stands, this is an attempt to Repeal a Resolution that violates UN rules. This isn't an ex post facto application of my ruleset to a preexisting Resolution. "Save the forests of the World" violated the Enodian laws. It should never have been allowed on the floor for a vote.

and as usual, mav is abstaining from this vote, despite legal standing that would permit him to do so.

I agree with Mav and have voted FOR this repeal.

I believe this is the
original thread. If it is, may I say "Yikes!" If this proposal can be repealed, then I think we will see a better resolution or I think we as a region should submit a stronger, less crappier proposal.

HOLY JUMPIN'
I cannot get over things like this. It makes me very happy to be in a region where people actually read things and try to understand them.
That proposal was so convoluted and had so many holes in it. And more importantly, it didn't actually seem to DO anything.
A big giant yes on the repeal.
