Title: Seen any good movies lately?
dunefish - February 25, 2004 09:00 PM (GMT)
Last movie I saw was ROTK. It ruled. Just dazzling to watch.
I'm going on Thursday to see The Passion of the Christ. I hear it's pretty hard to watch but very moving.
Only 51 more days until Kill Bill: Vol. 2 comes out.
So I got that going for me. Which is nice.

the last two movies I saw were The Butterfly Effect and Big Fish, both of which were awesome.
I'm probably going to go watch The Passion of the Christ soon (who isn't? ). I actually heard that it's not all that great. It's just violent, and doesn't have any meaning (still have to see it though).
Canadiiya - February 25, 2004 09:25 PM (GMT)
I was planning on seeing it, but it turns out I only know one of the people going, and he doesn't have any money at the moment :( (I always go to movies in groups, and I'm broke right now)
RoTK rocked.

The last movie I saw in the theatres was "Butterfly Effect". That movie was cool, Ashton really proved that he has talents other than being a bimbo...so that was excellent for him. Sadly, lack of funds and spare time has constricted me in watching movies. :(

The last two movies i went and saw were ROTK about 3 times, (ok im a nerd, so sue me) and the movie Monster. Monster is about a lesbian hooker, and she murdered the men that she seduced. The movie was actually based on a true story. A very dark and depressing tale, some parts are VERY hard to watch, but the acting by Christina Ricci and Charleze Theron was fantastic.
When i walked out of that movie, i didnt know what to think of it really, but thats part of the reason why i kind of liked it, simply because the movie involves alot of mixed emotions towards the main character. In some parts you pity her, respect her, and even hate her. Go see it..
Peoples's Republic of Meresg - March 8, 2004 01:05 PM (GMT)
The last movies I have seen are The Butterfly Effect and LOTR Return of the King. Both were awesome. I probably won't get to the theatre again until Harry Potter 3 and Spiderman 2 come out this summer (I have a 5 1/2 yr old who is obsessed with both!!)

I saw Starsky and Hutch on Saturday. It was very funny and thoroughly entertaining. Easily the best movie I've seen since Zoolander...
Canadiiya - March 8, 2004 09:14 PM (GMT)
I saw Fight Club for the first time Saturday night. That movie is awesome *runs off to finish the book*

Obviously a Stiller fan...I bet you're waiting on edge for Meet the Parents 2 :D
bweezy - March 8, 2004 10:36 PM (GMT)
I didn't really like Meet the Parents very much. I like Ben Stiller, but didn't like Meet the Parents or the Royal Tenenbaums.
Checkers McDog - March 8, 2004 10:43 PM (GMT)
how bout Envy?...that one comes out in april
bweezy - March 8, 2004 10:45 PM (GMT)
I saw the poster for Envy. It looks promising...
Checkers McDog - March 8, 2004 10:56 PM (GMT)
It sure does....
I love Jack Black....a couple nights ago, for some reason, I was watching High Fidelity in french, it was really hilarious to hear him dubbed over in french
bweezy - March 8, 2004 10:59 PM (GMT)
I watched 2001 in French a few times. HAL sounds very different, with a very low voice. Somehow, hearing him say "Que-ce que vous fesez, Dave" Doesn't sound quite right...

Just recently watched the Princess Bride again. The author of the novel and Rob Reiner put together an incredible movie. This is definitely a keeper.

Just saw Adam Sandlers new movie 50 First Dates and it is pretty funny. I actually enjoyed it

I saw that one - it was ok. Worth admission, but it was no "Waterboy".
king_girl - August 28, 2005 12:09 AM (GMT)
We saw Brothers Grimm last night, Weird!
Freezing Cold Water - August 30, 2005 08:48 AM (GMT)
I saw "Dukes of Hazzard" two weeks ago. Not bad, pretty good. :)
saskatoon saskatchewan - August 31, 2005 02:19 AM (GMT)
The Man who shot Liberty Valance-John Wayne, James Stewart, need I say more?
Hotel Rwanda- In my mind, tied with the next movie for best picture last year
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind-Jim Carrey at his best, if you still think he can't act in a drama, this will prove you wrong. Oh yeah, don't forget about Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Elijay Woods, Mark Ruffalo and Tom Wilkinson.
Emus in denial - August 31, 2005 04:15 AM (GMT)
I'm actually surprised how little attention eternal sunshine got. I quite enjoyed it too.

Well, it is an Indy film, and they tend to rarely get the notice of bigger movies. Interesting note from the Oscar's back in Feburary. All the movies that got nominated for best picture, not one of them cracked 100 Million in domestic grossing, and i'm not certain that any of them cracked 150 Million worldwide. Too bad, there was some pretty good films out there, Sideways, Million Dollar Baby, Hotel Rwanda, Finding Neverland were all some of the better films i've seen in a while.

Have any of you seen Diary of a mad black woman? It was really good! Also Tyler Perry's Madea movies are good too!

I saw the Family Guy movie last night. It was really funny (well, the first half was).
My sister gave me a DVD copy of it....apparently, it was leaked all over the internet, even though it hasn't been released. Ah, you gotta love the internet :D

So I finally got around to watching "Spider-Man 2". Caution that this post may contain SPOILERS, but the movie's been out for a year and change, so I'm not overly concerned about it.
You really feel sorry for Peter pretty much throughout the movie--they gave him a lot of problems in the comics and transferred most of them to the big screen. You get to the point where you're like, come on, *something* go right for him!
I liked Doc Ock a lot--he was menacing without being over-the-top, a very cool and hip supervillian. The fight scene on the train was excellent as well.
Liked the cameo by Willem Dafoe as the (spectral) Goblin, setting up the next movie nicely. IMDB says that they plan to have Dr. Connors fight alongside the second Goblin as the Lizard, which should prove interesting. If they do end up making a fourth movie I'd like to see something in the third one that starts the Venom storyline, since Venom was always Pete's best nemesis and he'd be a good fit for number 4.

This weekend I saw "the Dead Zone" starring Christopher Walkin. A 1983 release, it was very well done. Walkin was perfectly cast. It is about a guy who emerges from a coma after five years, and discovers he can see and change the future.
I also saw Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Very funny movie. I'm saddened that they don't have White Castle's in Canada - I have to drive 8 hours to get the nearest one. The idea of eating six mini burgers instead of one large one is intriguing to me.
Almonaster - September 6, 2005 08:47 PM (GMT)
Did you know that Christopher Walken is running (already!) for US president in 2008?

I haven't seen the movie, but they remade it as a TV series with Anthony Michael Hall in the lead role. I really like that adaptation.

Speaking as someone who lives in the birthplace of White Castle, I can say that I don't really think you're missing much.

The guy who played Kumar in that movie is a vegetarian...so all his White Castle burgers in the movie where veggie ones. A veggie White Castle burger is intriguing to me :D

In answer to the question posed in the thread title...
No.
I saw "Dark Water" last night. This is the story of a divorced mother and her daughter, who rent a pretty crummy apartment and all sorts of weird stuff happens, precipitated by murky water running through the pipes and dripping through their ceiling.
This movie was *awful*. It wasn't so much that it was a bad movie, but that it was boring--it had a running time of 1:40, but because of the dramatic pacing that rivaled highway construction, it felt longer than "Titanic" did. And there really wasn't much tension to keep things interesting.
I only spent a dollar to see it and still felt like I got ripped off.
Carbanousa - September 8, 2005 12:53 PM (GMT)
Harsh. Beer? *passes beer*
Redundancies - September 8, 2005 01:07 PM (GMT)
Beer was a good idea last night, probably not so much at 9 AM (my time).
Actually, that's the better part--it was "dollar night", so not only was admission a dollar, so were the sodas, the popcorns (small size of course) and the beer (the cheap draft stuff like Bud Light, but hey). So we at least ate for cheap.
Interestingly, before going to this theater for the first time (it wasn't long ago) I didn't know movie theaters could sell alcohol.
Carbanousa - September 8, 2005 01:25 PM (GMT)
They can over here - although it's usually a public bar in some theatres - I would guess that they would just have to apply for a license as would a bar or hotel iGuess.
saskatoon saskatchewan - September 8, 2005 03:49 PM (GMT)
In terms of bad movies, I saw "The Big Lebowski" last night. Which is apparently on IMDB's top 250 list. I dunno how, but i'm told if you see it a second and third and fourht time, it really grows on you. But i really have to wonder though, the plot was um, odd and probably isn't designed to make sense really. So much was just left hanging. What did the porn king do about the money? Did the "dude" win his bowling title? Did that girl who wanted a child get one? Like i dunno, maybe people out there are willing to ignore that given that some scences are quite funny. Personally though, it was the lowest rated movie I've ever given to something that's in the top 250, a six. A bizzare show that has it's moments.
