Title: Fantasy Hockey

Redundancies - August 30, 2005 04:32 PM (GMT)
Pleased with the success thus far of the Fantasy Baseball league, and hoping for even greater success with Canada's biggest sport, the Redundancian Athletic Commission has issued the following statement to the nations of Canada:

You are hereby invited to join the Birthplace of Hockey fantasy hockey league. This league will be set up in a similar manner to the baseball league this summer, with an autopick draft and a points-based scoring system.

There is room for 20 teams in the league. We will likely wait to draft for a couple weeks, since there are several prominent players whose locations have not been finalized.

To join the league, begin here:

http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey

Choose to join a Custom league. The information for this league is as follows:

League ID#: 29950
Password: nscanada

Thanks, and happy pucking,

Durass will be represented by the Navy team, the Dreadnaughts.

Team KanaDa is in.

CBs Abusers are in

Freezing Cold Water - September 6, 2005 05:02 AM (GMT)
I want to join but I am too busy to. :(

Redundancies - September 6, 2005 01:58 PM (GMT)
Doesn't take much, FCW--for the baseball league, the average investment for me is a few minutes a day, just to check on my players' availability. (not counting the commish stuff that I do, which you won't need to concern yourself with) I would like to have as many teams as possible, even if you aren't able to change your roster on a daily basis.

canada6 - September 6, 2005 10:00 PM (GMT)
I'm in! Canada6 is my team!

And one more thing. When exactly is the Online draft going to be held?

420_Celebrants - September 6, 2005 11:02 PM (GMT)
I believe it is set up to be an autopick draft ... I didn't see anything about times for an online draft ... at least in this league.

canada6 - September 7, 2005 12:14 AM (GMT)
Got it. But when does the autopick draft go down then?

420_Celebrants - September 7, 2005 12:25 AM (GMT)
As soon as we have at least 10 teams in I'd believe. Season doesn't start for another month, so there is lots of time.

Where Are The CBs - September 7, 2005 12:26 AM (GMT)
Sept 10th I think

420_Celebrants - September 7, 2005 12:38 AM (GMT)
It is very possibly that the season might start on September 10th in some member nations, however, in the real life, the season starts in October.

From Yahoo:

Important Fantasy Hockey Dates
Live Drafts End: 10/27
Full Season Registration Ends: 11/18
All Drafts End: 11/18
Start Date: October 5th

The official answer is "as soon as I feel like it".

We don't need ten teams--but I would like to have a few more particpants. I was planning on holding the draft sometime next week, if we get some more players...

If you want I could post a message on Canada's regional nationstates page. I'm sure we'd go well over 10 teams rather quickly.

Redundancies - September 7, 2005 04:42 PM (GMT)
That's a pretty gopod idea--I can handle it, but I'll wait until the Sparta debate dies down. Otherwise it might get bumped off before enough folks have a chance to read it.

Mr. B - September 17, 2005 01:30 AM (GMT)
Hey Red, whens the deadline? Im not around much lately but don't wanna miss this (if I havent already)

Oh, and sorry about the Buds busting in on your wishlist there.

Redundancies - September 17, 2005 04:47 AM (GMT)
I don't know yet--sign up as soon as you can. I'd like to have the draft within a week, but I want to get adequate participation first.

The Leaves picked up Czerkawski? Damn it. We could have used him...

canada6 - September 17, 2005 02:32 PM (GMT)
Go Leafs Go!

here. i'm in.

GO ISLANDERS!!

Mr. B - September 17, 2005 07:20 PM (GMT)
Hahaha, "Leaves". funny cause its true.

And will see about Mariusz... he, Lindros, Allison, Belfour, even O'Neil to some extent is a big gamble. We'll see if it pays off (which it will).

...

Alright, the Fighting Toads are ready to go!!

Redundancies - September 22, 2005 03:13 PM (GMT)
Registration deadline is officially tomorrow. I'm going to set the league's Draft Status to "Ready" at that point so the draft will take place shortly after that, usually within a day or so.

Sign up now if you haven't already!

the number 17 - September 24, 2005 01:37 AM (GMT)
wait a minute, this is an autopick?

i was under the assumption that it was an offline draft.

if there are any open draft time slots for a live draft, i would encourage you to try and coordinate it.

Redundancies - September 24, 2005 08:10 PM (GMT)
I specified in the original post that it was an autopick draft. I really find it easier to do that rather than try to coordinate with multiple players from different time zones. If I tired to do it at this point I don't know if we'd be able to coordinate it in a timely fashion.

Sorry.

the number 17 - September 24, 2005 09:40 PM (GMT)
oh well. there goes a good portion of the game's strategy.

420_Celebrants - September 26, 2005 01:32 AM (GMT)
You guys are screwed. :D :Canada:

canada6 - September 26, 2005 01:39 AM (GMT)
Hey what do you know... the teams have been drafted! :D

kana da - September 26, 2005 02:07 AM (GMT)
Due to the KBC lockout, Hockey Night in Kana Da will be broadcast without any additional commentary. Some citizens are choosing to listen to local radio stations, others are adding their own commentary. The one major loss seems to be the absence of "Coaches' Corner." Currently, the KBC is looking at having Carolyn Parrish step in. If such a replacement should take place, the KBC has definitely decided to put her on a seven-second delay.

Where Are The CBs - September 26, 2005 07:51 AM (GMT)
can you trade and if so how?

Where Are The CBs - September 26, 2005 08:26 AM (GMT)
My early perdictions are that C6 will own us all!!!!

Seroiusly did you pay somebody

Forsberg
Jajr
Carter
Blake
MaCabe
Hasek
Khab
Kipper
Pitkanen on back up (I would move him into starter, sounds like he is going to be doing a lot of shootouts)

Where Are The CBs - September 26, 2005 08:37 AM (GMT)
Number 17 I can not say i envy your roster, I don't expect Modano or Shannhan or Weight or Bertiuzzi to put up alot of points.

I think Smyth would definatly be a plus side to you, and Neidermyer, may be good or may be over rated watch him (or trade him for some good offence). i would move Mara to take out Foote, and Demitria to take out Weight. Maybe move Zednik in for Bert if he starts taking alot of penalties in the early going. I think the refs will be watching him like a hawk and it may be difficult for him to return fully to himself.

Where Are The CBs - September 26, 2005 08:41 AM (GMT)
Fighting Toads, I don't think Kovalchuk is playing this season, but he might and if he does you have something really good going for you.

Also hold on to Ribiero he may be a cheep cheating diver but that is not graded in fantasy hockey.

your good for D, except Ohland is not really that offensive.

In all except for your hrrible goalies, Cloituer, Burke, and legace, you may be the black sheep, since half of your team is still not offically in the NHL right now.

Where Are The CBs - September 26, 2005 08:45 AM (GMT)
Wow KD, you have almost an entire Edmonton roster, and bad news none of the good guys :(

Move Satan and take out Pisani, Stillman for Moreau, Marleau should have a break out season this year I would go for him instead of Arnot, and Stathios is better then Cross.

umm.... good luck

Where Are The CBs - September 26, 2005 08:55 AM (GMT)
I like your roster 420

Lecalvalier- good
Spezza- maybe great this season talks of him being winged by Alfredsson and Healty
Tanguay- if he stays healthy he may make another run for point leader
Doan- Overrated, probably one of the most overrated players in the game, if he didn't play for Gretzky's team he would never be on the radar.
Iginla- In my opinion the best active player in the game
Hejduk- May turn out to be a dud now that Forsbergs not feeding him passes, watch him
Gonchar- Amazing goal scorer, problem with him is his +/-.
Chara- The d-man to have in these kind of games. Good at getting points and best +/- in the league.
Timonen- Trade he is worthless
Raflaski- If he stays healthy maybe a good wild card. Neidermyer and Stevens both have left leaving him the Devils #1 D-man and he can QB a powerplay with okay ability.
Crosby- Don't put him on yet see if he is a bust or not.
LeClair- I think he would be a better LW then Doan, but I just really hate Doan.
Niinimaa- Not good enough to replace anyone except Timonen
Bondra- Kept him off he is too hot and cold

Thibault- Will have many a win as Pitsbergs starter, doesn't mean he is good though
Giguere- Is said to prove he is an elite goalie this year
Esche- Dead beat, but may win a few with philly.

Where Are The CBs - September 26, 2005 09:08 AM (GMT)
Durass You have an amazing team to, but no C6

Sundin- Well, this maybe the year he gets more then 36 goals
Fedorov- I keep hearing Anihiem is the black sheep in the west, so Fedorov, may be a HUGE pay off
Nasland- Alwas worth keeping, he is in the top 5 players in the league
Tkachuk- Is overweight and was recently suspended from St. Loius training camp because of it. Expect him to be a dud this year
Sullivan- His speed and new rules and of coarse the speedy canadian Kayria will make Sullivan a favorite in this game
Walker- Cut him
Redden- Is much like Chara a keeper, he is second to Chara in +/- and produces the same offencive numbers
Boyle- I don't know he is on a dying Tbay team, but may be able to turn some really big numbers
Kalinin- Is good trade bait, word is he is going to be Norris contendor this year on a break out Sabres team.
Zubov- I think he is past his prime, but he may turn out as usful as Leach
Gaborik- I would replace Walker with this guy, major points this season
Roenick- May be better then Sundin, lets face it if anyone in this league belongs in hollywood it's this guy.
Kvasha- Is really your only opinion to replace Tkachuk with and you really need to replace him, he is going to have a heart attack or something, he is almost 300 Ibs
Hamrlik- I think would better then Zubov, but then again Zubov maybe the same as he was when Dallas won the cup... unlikly but still possible.

Turco- Over rated
Luongo- This guy is gold and he has a real team this year not one of those crappy ones they have been giving him the past few seasons.
Lalime- Under rated, blaimed for having a choke artist team, and a coach who could not deliver.

Where Are The CBs - September 26, 2005 09:20 AM (GMT)
Big Chill is a balanced treat.

Sakic- Amazing Vet expect point leade out of him
Lang- Amazing Vet expect point leader out of him
Nash- Young talent I think he will have a slow start, but will end with a strong finish
Roberts- Injuryed he doesn't put up alot of points, lol, but if he can stay healthy he will be an amazing capper for Nash, Lang and Sakic
Havlat- I like this guy alot but, he has a hot cold thing he plays through that makes him disappear, this may also be that he plays on the most talented team in the NHL, and it is hard to stay noticed.
Murray- I think he will be a goal leader contendor, if Samsonov gets healthy and Throton doesn't let the money go to his head.
Zidlicky- Since the former, Nasville #1 D Man died last year in Europe Zidlicky will get more ice time, does this mean less goals scored against him... probably not.
Souray- One of my favorite D-Men, number 5 accually, if he stays heathly he my lead Montreal with goals.
Sopel- Vancouver was retarded not to resign this guy, break out season and many points are coming to this mans team.
Berard- Coulbus, does not really have many offensive D-Men to brag about and since they are projected to end up in 10th in the conferance, say Score.ca, this guy is not a healthy investment.
Hull- unless, and a really bad man
Gomez- Amazing young player who can not even compare with Lang and Sacic yet
Prospal- Will not be able to fill in the gap Roberts, would leave if injuryed, but may do something specail I guess.
Modry- looks to be more dependable when it comes to +/- then Berard.

Nabokov- amazing and SJ will have 2nd in the west
Vokoun- If he has the career season that is expected of him, huge pay out for Chills
Roloson- Meh, he will split the season again.

oh well. there goes a good portion of the game's strategy.

I don't agree--because you could pre-rank your players, you could essentially pick the team you wanted to get prior to the draft. Obviously if someone drafted a player before you, they'd be unavailable, but then you'd just move to your next pick.

The pre-rankings are precisely the reason I have Nash on my roster right now.

QUOTE
can you trade and if so how?

Yes. There are a couple different ways to do it--probably the easiest way is, when you're looking at another team's page, select the player(s) you want from the other squad and click the "Propose Trade" button. Then you can select the player(s) you want to trade to the other team.

With Spacek gone, Berard is Columbus' primary offensive defenseman. Thus he should see a lot of power play time and get a fair number of PP points.

Being my fourth defenseman I can't really expect too much...

I'll be completely honest, I don't know a thing about hockey. I picked all Edmonton players 'cause Edmonton's my favourite team.

Edit: Wow, two of my players out with groin injuries. Maybe whacking with a rolling pin isn't the best way to motivate my team.

I'll agree ... Shane Doan is QUITE overrated ... but he is a family friend, so I kinda had to have him on my team.

I'm also trying to figure out who to drop to pick up Kris Draper for the same reason ... but then again, do I need 4 centres?

I'm open to trades BTW.
