What specific initiatives will you undertake to fulfill your duties if elected to the MRA position?

First and foremost as MRA I want to increase participation in the region, more specifically the off-site forum, where all UN polls, elections, etc. are conducted. By doing so, not only will we have a more fun and lively atmosphere, but a government that more accurately represents the nations of the region. Additionally, it would facilitate communication within the region, which is very limited on-site.

I plan to do this by posting in the regional on site forum and telegramming nations of Canada, giving them updates of regional happenings (which I have already done, and has proved somewhat successful in increasing participation on these boards). These updates could consist of calls to action, such as a request for nations to vote on UN resolutions, referenda, or in elections, thus urging them to come here and voice their opinion on a matter. On the other hand, updates could just include a summary of what’s happening/happened off-site, i.e. who has won the elections. In all honesty, I feel that this could make nations feel as though they are missing out, if they aren’t participating in the process.

In addition, once nations have registered off-site, I want to make them feel more welcome here, and encourage them to participate. I’ve noticed several people have registered here recently, but have never posted.

And if I’m correct in assuming that the regional map would come under this office’s jurisdiction, I would like to work closely with Boardz and all other nations involved in creating the map, and determining the best method of adding new nations to it. (Personally, I would lean towards an application process through the off-site forum, thus requiring them to be an active nation in order to be placed on the map).

Currently, there are two hundred and sixty four nations that reside in the region of Canada, with continued growth each and everyday. I believe that, the position of Regional Affairs Minster, will become more and more important as the region continues to grow and expand. Indeed, one could argue that already, the position will be of vital importance. I believe, that one of the main roles of the minster will be to voice the concern of all members, to the cabinet and its members. The Regional Affairs Minister must have the support of all members of region and by doing so, will be able to report to the cabinet with the utmost confidence as to the activities of member nations

There are a variety of intiatives that I would undertake as minster of Regional Affairs. I believe that through hard work and dedication, the minstry could become the most important cabinet position there is.

First, I believe that the ministry should have an open door policy to any and all suggestions. Indeed, I would encourage members to contact the ministry (either myself, or some member of my staff) with suggestions and comments for upcoming cabinet meetings. Although members cannot participate in the cabinet meetings, I feel that the Minster of Regional Affairs should openly voice concerns on behalf of the member nations.

Secondly, I believe, that the minster must create a postive and encouraging atmosphere for all members. Indeed, I believe that simple things, such as a warm welcoming letter to new nations should be sent off as soon as the minister learns of nations arriving in the region. New members need to be told of what is going on here on the offsite forum so that, they feel a sense of curiousity to come and see what is going on over here. By doing so, I hope to create a family atmosphere in which all member nations feel welcome to express their own views and beliefs.

Thirdly, I would create a staff (no more than two or three members) who would be able to help collect the thoughts and feelings of all members on any given subject. Extensive amounts of research and surveying would be necessary to gauge the feelings of all, particularly those who do not feel the urge to come onto the offsite forum. As much as the future minister tries, he probably will not be able to convince all members to regularly participate, I belive that w/ proper consultation we will get the opinion of all members.

In closing, I think that the Regional Affairs Minster postion will be of critical importance to all members. With our region growing each day, we need to ensure that all incoming members feel welcome within in the region and within the forums. Otherwise, without proper consulatation, members could become disillusioned with the state of the region.

I agree that the MRA should be a voice for the region, but I believe that the best way of representing the people, is to make them feel as though they can voice their opinions directly to the other nations of Canada, and not only through the minister. I feel the best way for nations to express their opinions is through the off-site forum, because it allows the greatest exposure (posts on the NS page is limited to 10). So therefore, I believe the greatest initiative the MRA should undertake is encouraging massive participation on these boards.
