For information on how City of Ehs was formed, and how to sign up, click on the following link: http://invisionfree.com/forums/NationState...?showtopic=2694

The league's web page is here: http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/

I suspect that the rest of this thread will be dedicated towards trade discussions, promotional articles, and fantasy baseball related flame wars.

I just have one question.....

Who is Karim Garcia?

bweezy - February 25, 2005 06:33 PM (GMT)
The Bweezystan Brawlers have announced that they are ready to participate in the inaugural regional baseball league. "We feel that we will field a competative team. I mean, look who I'm up against" said Bweezy, showing his trademark lack of tact.

"We've got a dozen players on our exclusion list as we await the upcoming draft" added Bweezy. "We have 102 elite players on a ranking list. We're ready to get our players, and put a winning formula on the field"

Apparently he's a Mexican born outfielder who was signed by LA in 1992 and has bounced around the majors since 1995. He was released by Baltimore last August. I'm not sure what team he'll pop up with this year.

Errr, I mean, uh - he's the next Barry Bonds - you should draft him first overall - he's the future of baseball....

James looks out the window of the spring training complex at the manager of the Brawlers during the press conference and smirks.

"How ready can those boys be to play baseball if they still have those damned ice skates on?", he wonders. He makes a mental note to be sure to have his guys practice their checking and high-sticking before getting down to the real fundamentals.

"Now, if I can just figure out who this Karim Garcia is, we will be ready to play," he mutters.....then picks up the telephone to call Pedro Martinez.....

A message is wired to the leaders of the Canadian nations.

From the Offices of the Redundancian Athletic Commission
Fred Hatfield, President

Subject: Official announcement of baseball league

Dear Presidents, tyrants and other assorted rulers:

We are pleased to announce that the City of Ehs Baseball League has been formed under the direction of our benevolent despot. There are already ten teams, each representing a different nation:

-MrB's Fighting Toads, from Rya Solmara
-Saskatoon Shadows, from Saskatoon Saskatchewan
-Parrrrtay Panthers, from Parrrrtay
-Chex Cereal Squares, from Checkers McDog
-Bweezystan Brawlers, from Bweezystan
-Liarg LIons, from Liarg
-Jack's Tar Heads, from Darryayah
-Ragin' Cajuns, from Elizabiethian
-Ess' Boys, from Esselldee
-South of the border, from Redundancia

There is room for ten additional teams.

The draft is scheduled to take place sometime after Monday morning, February 28th.

Please address any questions to the Redundancian Athletic Commission.

Mr. B - February 25, 2005 08:04 PM (GMT)
Mr. Greentoad, GM of the illustrious, newly-formed Mr B's Fighting Toads, is awakened far too early in the afternoon after a hard night of Rye and gambling by the crass ring of a phone strewn somewhere near the couch on which he slept. On the calling end was Mr. B himself, well respected philanthropist of Rya•Solmara and owner of the Fighting Toads which bore his name.

"Greentoad you fool! Get your sorry ass out of bed and get to work on building me a championship team! You do realize the draft is only three days away?!"

Mr Greentoad, not used to reading such long sentences, tried to shake out the cobwebs and respond; "uh.. yeah, yes of course sir! Im right on it! I've already begun my in depth research. um, in depth, right."

As he ended the call, Mr B quietly shook his head to himself in response to such an ominous foreshadow.

For me to give it up, I would at least have to somewhat understand it. Who are all these people? Don't you understand what a horrible word "draft" is?

Liarg - February 25, 2005 08:31 PM (GMT)
Oh, come on...you can do it.

Redundancies - February 25, 2005 08:50 PM (GMT)
What are you trying to do that's crashing the browser, Jack?

IC:

The benevolent despot and his flunkies at the RAC are pleased to announce that the Durassian team of "Durass Daggers" has joined the league, bringing the total number of teams up to 11.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Jack_Tarr - February 25, 2005 11:12 PM (GMT)
It is firefox that is crashing. I'm trying to get into the yahoo baseball thinghy.

Firefox is my browser and it's working fine with the site.

Sorry, JT. :(

Jack_Tarr - February 26, 2005 04:12 PM (GMT)
OK, Problem solved, gotta love XP restore points :-)

From what I can see, there are a bunch of teams but nobody has any players yet.

If I am incorrect let me know, otherwise just ignore this post.

Oh, and BTW, I still think putting a baseball bat in Liarg's hands is a MAJOR LEAGUE mistake.
:P

Daemon - February 26, 2005 06:45 PM (GMT)
Sweet Sassy-Mollasy! The Dis City Dreadnoughts are back! Yes loyal Dreadnought fans, this year's team is better and more drug free then ever! That is 100% accurate. The draft is not scheduled until Monday-ish*, so no one will have any players until then.

* - I realize I'm using vague terms, but with this league, you can't really pinpoint exact times for things. Once I set the league's Draft Status to "Ready", the system doesn't draft right away--there's a delay before the draft starts, typically about a day. The Draft Status change is scheduled for Monday morning at 8 ET. Once I set the Draft Status to Ready, the system will show when the draft will be completed by (though it may come earlier than the time/date given)

Defectiveness - February 27, 2005 11:41 AM (GMT)
Alright, I've joined up... lonely_wurm's my Yahoo ID, and Defective Dragons is the team name... ^_^

The league is now ready to draft. The draft is scheduled for sometime between now and the 4th of March, so if you haven't pre-ranked your players, and you want to, make sure to do it as soon as possible. The draft typically takes place within a day or so.

:P

Fortunately, I won't be swinging a bat during this season. My depth perception and hand-eye coordination are not what they were a few years ago when I led the Sally League in batting average and home runs.... ;)

I will just be sitting there in my rocking chair telling my bench coach what signals to send and trying to decide whether to bunt or hit and run.....

"You call this a baseball team?!"

The benevolent despot paced in front of his desk, reading the lineup card. "Our starting second baseman has just been signed from the Japanese league!"

"Well, sir, Ichiro was--"

"Iguchi ain't no Ichiro."

"Yes sir, I will correct that immediately. But sir, doesn't the rest of the lineup look good?"

"I do like the outfielders. And it's always good to get A-Rod and Pudge. Pitching staff looks solid. But who's Chin-hui Tsao?"

"23 year old reliever. He hasn't had much major league experience but we're going to take a chance on him--he had 11 K's to only one walk last year, admittedly in limited action."

"That's gutsy. I like that. All right, you've convinced me this team is worthwhile. Now get out and start making deals, I have another appointment."

"Yes, sir. Right away."

*Field Manager Bweezy looks at his team*

Eric Gagne? Rheal Cormier? How many Quebeckers does one team need? At least we scooped south of the border on that Suzuki kid. I hear *he's* actually good.

*scans down the list*

Bobby Madritsch? BOBBY MADRITSCH? WE DRAFTED A KID WHOSE ONLY CLAIM TO FAME IS THAT HE ONCE LED THE WINNIPEG GOLDEYES IN ERA????

Ugh. It's gonna be a long season...

I spoke to his agent, - he really likes it in Bweezystan, so I guess I'll hang on to him for now :)

I can now tell by the "last league activity" page on the website which three teams are going to be the ones who take a "hands on" approach... I know who you are, I'm wathing you all like a hawk...

Same here - and I had rated many of them quite highly. I guess they are more sought after, now that they've won a world series.

As an aside, there are two free agent Red Sox second basemen near the top of the Free Agent list. You could release a player, and sign one of them in order to increase your Red Sox content.

(Winnipeg) Trader Bweezy issued a press release stating "I don't like the morale on this team. There is no better way to boost morale than by making sudden impulsive trade offers without giving any due regard for the consequences of such trades. As such, I've contacted several GM's in the league. I hope to have new players on the team soon". It should be an exciting few days. Or not.

Liarg - March 1, 2005 04:52 PM (GMT)
James stands before the assembled press corps with the Lions' sophomore shortstop...

We are excited to announce that we have extended the contract of Khalil Green to run for the next 12 years. We feel that he is the future of our program and expect greatness from him for many years to come. We, uhhh, ahhhhh (seems to lose his train of thought as the owner and manager of the Parrrrtay Panthers sweeps through the back of the room on the way to her office)..oh yea, where was I?

...takes a drink of water (or whatever he has in the insulated cup on the podium) and continues.

As you know, Khalil hit .273 last year with 15 home runs in a role limited by his late season injuries, but his main contribution to the team was his defensive wizardry. We are looking for Khalil to blossom into an MVP caliber superstar this year....

Thanks to you all, and we are looking forward to a great season.....

Turns away, then turns back to ask the assembled mob...and one more thing....

Who the hell IS Karim Garcia?

Hmm. I think I'm leading the league in rejected trades. Does that count for any fantasy points? :)
