Title: Change to Member Levels?

bweezy - January 20, 2004 06:35 PM (GMT)
I'd like a discussion thread about the Member Levels used on this board. I have the ability to change them. Currently there are six levels, and the titles are pretty boring.

I've had a suggestion from HB to change them based on Canadian Prime Ministers. I'm leaning against that, mainly because I don't want to get flack from people who object to Trudeau being ranked ahead of Mulroney, or vice-versa.

Aboriginal tribes were also suggested, and I once again am leaning against it, as I don't want someone from one First Nation taking offence that its place on the hierarchy is lower than another.

I was thinking something mundane like Canadian animals would be neat - but I'd need a list of animals.

Anyway, if anyone else has any ideas, let me know.

This isn't a pressing project, just something that I want to get to sometime.

One way to deal with it would be to Start with one of the newest PM and wotk your way to the first PM. Still could be seen as boring.

With the animals, start with the small ones and work your way to the largest.

Just a suggestion.

Beaver
Polar Bear
Snowy Owl
Badger
Wolverine
Grizzly Bear
Prarie Dog

etc.

Also in no particular Order.

Perhaps we could follow the progression of an NHL player for the member levels.

For example:

Rookie
Checking Line Winger
Special Teamer
First Line Centre
Team Captain
All-Star
MVP
Hall of Famer

It can be tweaked, if anyone likes it.

i dunno much about NHL, it seems fitting for the region.

Also the progression of titles seems pretty good. It gets my vote of confidence. :)

sounds good to me.

I think Sorenistan has a fun idea.

Much better than the animals.

This seems to be the most popular idea.

I have fifteen different titles that I can add..

I'm thinking of adding:

"Draft Pick" "Back-up Goalie" and "Enforcer" and perhaps splitting "Special Teamer" into Penalty Killer" and "Power Play Specialist" - that way I get two spots filled instead of one.

Throw out any more thoughts if you have them.

Works for me

What about "Star Player"?

or is that covered by "All Star"?

bweezy - January 22, 2004 01:39 PM (GMT)
Yes. All-Star would cover Star Player.

In the NHL, every February, there is an All-Star game. The best forty players or so are invited to play together. All players at the game are called All-Stars.

"Enforcer" and "Penalty Killer" where choices that in the back of my mind where missing, so that's great that you thought of them. I think that something about getting the cup should be the top item.

Boardz - January 22, 2004 03:22 PM (GMT)
I kinda like the "hall of fame" reference.

I have seen that there are some custom titles on some of the forums. Is that possible here?

"Stanley Cup Champion" could be added.

Not sure if that is more prestigious than "Hall of Famer", but I can add that to the list.

I'll look into it when I finally change the title options. I know some boards have that capability - not sure if this is one of them.

I had 12 spots to fill, and I filled them all. The new Member Levels should be apparent to all.

As for Boardz' suggestion that we be allowed to put in our own Member levels, I can't find anything in the Admin controls on this board that will allow us to do that at this time. I'll read some FAQ's and see if I can get it changed...

To get back to Boardz - once you've hit the top level on the Member Level hierarchy, in your personal Control Panel, a new box will appear - at that time you will be able to change to a Custom Title. In essence, that will be a reward for those who stay and participate actively in the region. Eventually, you will hit the top of the hierarchy, and have the option to have a custom title.

I like the new titles. They look cool.

Boardz - January 23, 2004 09:30 AM (GMT)
Yeah man - i am well pleased with mine!!! Power Play Specialist!!

Love it - I am not even sure what it means!

bob - January 23, 2004 02:31 PM (GMT)
yep the new titles are good

Sorenistan - January 27, 2004 05:03 PM (GMT)
Hey, you adopted my idea! I just noticed when I posted elsewhere. The additions to the list are great. They seem so obvious now, but I sure as heck couldn't think of them.

Hmmm...I was a Draft Pick coming here...not sure if I got promoted...

Edit: YAY! I'm a Rookie!
