Title: A Little Bit of Paradise
Description: Should we annex the Turks and Caicos?

Alberta Conservative MP Peter Goldring is currently in the Turks and Caicos Islands exploring the possibility of forming a union between Canada and the British territory. The islands are located in the Caribbean about 900 km southeast of Miami. This idea was first brought up in 1973 and was resurrected during the '80s, failing to gather support either time. The gist of the proposal is, we fund their health and education systems and, in exchange, we get a warm-weather tourist and retirement destination of our very own.
Personally, I don't see the point. It's not like we're barred from going there as it is. I'm doesn't seem like an equitable exchange.
What does everyone else think?

If it costs Canada more than it brings in, I'm not interested. However, if it is a tourism goldmine, and as such brings in some revenue (or at least breaks even), then I'm all for it.

I think it's a great idea!
The whole popultation of T&C is less than 30,000 people. It's land mass is less than 500 sq. km (that's smaller than greater toronto) . How expensive could building a few schools and hospitals be for that few people?
Besides that, they are starting to see their tourism industry thirve; it's not unlikely this place could actually be a money maker.
The main catch would be if the people there actually want to join Canada. If I'm corect, they are adminstered as a colony from England (much like Bermuda), and the main attraction of joining Canada would be to become a 'full province' in charge of many pf thier own affairs.
