Title: Withdrawal from the race.
DevilsAdvocate - January 19, 2004 07:17 PM (GMT)
I must appologize to any who took the time to read these rambles of mine. It appears that while I thought this was merely a game for people to play around with, many of you view this as very real, and things like invasions and whatnot could possibly be life-threatening issues. Therefore, I withdraw from the race of Defence Minister and wish you all well in your endeavors.

Hmmph.
Was I too hard on this candidate? I only meant to direct the candidates to real-life solutions to our homeland security situation. Yet, it seems I may have unwittingly pushed one candidate out of the race, which wasn't my intention at all. I didn't think I had done or said anything improper, but judging by his reaction, I'm starting to second guess myself...
Does anyone think I crossed some lines, was rude, etc, which would require an apology?
I'd appreciate everyone's views - if I was out of line, I'll tg and pm him apologizing, and asking him to return to the race.

Bweezy - you are being too hard on yourself. I think it is hard at first understanding how regions work and how role play works in NS. I just think they figured out that they need a little more experience before taking on a task like this.
If they assist one of the ministers, I would think, with that experience, come the next election they could then run for a minister seat themselves.

Nope, you were not too hard on me, and it's not that I realize there's too much to this that what I expected. I just simply expected this to be a game where we have some fun and maybe get a few laughs, not babysit a bunch of little kids who've decided that the only way they have fun is by ruining others'. As I stated in another string, this should be the responsibility of the site administrators. This is they're site, they advertise it, they maintain it, and while we may rely upon this game for a bit of fun, they rely on US for thier site's simple existence. Maybe what needs to be done is we need to approach the NationStates admin and get them to apply some kind of anti-hacking devices to protect the site. Beyond that, what else can you expect ANY of us to do.......go beat down the doors of these little twerps and head-bash them? Not a really likely scenario I'm afraid, though it would be rather satisfying.

Just wanted to add a bit more to what I said on the other thread.
Region invasions are within the game rules and do not require hacking. Hacking someones nation is outside the rules and something the game mods will deal with. Harshly one would hope.
Which brings up an interesting point. Do we have a minister for RP actions or will those fit within the normal ministries? If they are within, then the deputy positions may be very useful for some of these (and Devils Advocate may be interested in that position.)

There is no RP ministry per se - that will fall to the existing ministries - depending on where the action is (domestic, foreign, military, etc.)

I'd like to add that if ever there IS a minister of RP, or anything of that form, I would DEFINITELY throw my hat in on that race.
