Title: Regional Chat
Oilers Fans - November 28, 2004 01:41 AM (GMT)
I was thinking. Some regions have a regional chat room, which drastically cuts down on forum spam. It is also good for sqeamish people who don't want people to know their email or something. Any ideas for a good site? The one I'd heard the most about is
Chatzy, but it seems to be offline or something right now.
Azark - November 28, 2004 04:24 AM (GMT)
Hey, that sounds like a good idea. It would count down on my post count, and i dont know what a good chat is, but it would be fun.
In conclusion, i vote yes.

I hope you cover your mouth when you cough. :P
Anyway, although I do have MSN, my parents don't let me talk with anyone I don't know IRL. Some other people may be leery of giving out their e-mail, or have a similar problem to mine.

Which is why ICQ is superior to MSN in that your Email is not displayed. Instead, you are allocated a unique ID number (like an MSN handle). The only thing better than ICQ is IRC (Internet relay Chat) which is secure and very versatile. The only drawback is that you have to subscribe to their service. I'm not sure what the fee is though.
Daemon - November 28, 2004 04:49 PM (GMT)
Wow. No offence KD, but that sounds pretty Draconian.
And why would people have a problem with giving out their email addy? I have like 12 of the bastards.
Checkers McDog - November 28, 2004 07:18 PM (GMT)
I have a problem posting my email address, or putting it in my profile, because it's basically my full name @hotmail.com.....but, I have no problem giving it out to people who PM me and ask for it :)
I think a chat room would be a cool idea though.
kana da - November 28, 2004 07:19 PM (GMT)
Well, you have to put both ICQ and IRC on your computer. My dad won't let us put stuff like that on our computer.
Azark - November 28, 2004 07:58 PM (GMT)
Oh, the joys of having your own computer... And living on your own ^_^

ICQ is a separate application to IRC. IRC was one of the first Istant Messenging Service to be implemented. It's basically a dialogue box. Simple, yet effective. Essentially, a chat room would be an extension of this Forum as only Forum members would be able to use it. I'm intrigued KD, if you father won't allow you to participate in Instant Messegers, why is it that a Forum is allowed? I'm just curious because Forums were the next logical progression from Instant Messengers. Any Forum Administrator (from the host) will be able to locate you via your ISP if they do so wish. I don't mean to pry, but your predicament has tweaked my curiosity.
kana da - November 29, 2004 12:57 AM (GMT)
Well, with instant messenger, it's more private. Here, everyone can see if you try to say something inappropriate. There, no way.
Oilers Fans - November 29, 2004 01:13 AM (GMT)
Most chat and stuff has filters. Even the newer MSN filters out anything... Plus, all posts in most chat rooms are recorded, so if someone complains, the admns can see what was said. And, in MSN and ICQ and stuff, you can block people anyways.
kana da - November 29, 2004 01:14 AM (GMT)
I dunno. My parents won't let me, and I've learned to respect that after an unfortunate incident two years ago.

Oh, this guy I knew IRL introduced me to this guy he knew from the Internet on MSN, and we found we had some stuff in common. I left my MSN messenger on, and my sister found out. She told my parents.
saskatoon saskatchewan - November 29, 2004 02:46 AM (GMT)
well if MSN is how people want to chat, mine's letsgooilers@hotmail.com, personally, I don't give a damn really if anyone knows my email address. I mean, really in terms of privacy I don't think the Internet is the place that people should be expecting it, so, i'm not concerned myself anyways.
heh, stinktown, that's a good one for Regina

Actually, all praise all of use who continue to demand oil, were it not for high oil prices, Saskatchewan would be in the "have not" category.
