Title: A note on the elections

bweezy - January 16, 2004 11:00 PM (GMT)
Just a reminder to all, that by constitutional provision, I will not be permitted to vote in the upcoming elections unless there is a tie in any of the specific races.

Due to my position as "tie breaker", I will remain impartial during the campaign and will not be publicly endorsing any candidates.

I look forward to working with whomever gets elected to Cabinet starting February 9 (assuming I'm still PM when the electoral process is completed).

It might be helpful to the voters if the PM laid out what you felt the inital focus of the Cabinet should be. A first hundred days plan; what you think should be worked on right away.

As the P.M., I see many areas I'd like addressed. however, as only one member of Cabinet, my priorities may not be the same as the other 5 members in Cabinet, and as such, my priorities may be put on the back burner, depending on who you elect to Cabinet.

My priorities are as follows:

Defence
Defence is a key area. There are two huge issues in the Defence portfolio that need to be addressed.

Firstly, we need to have a debate on whether we should put in a founder in Canada, to protect us from hostile takeovers. If we think it is a good idea, we need to discuss the mechanics of installing a founder and ensuring that the founder mechanism is used correctly.

Secondly, there is the Dogs of War. This is a military alliance founded by True Domination that is dedicated to preserving democracy and liberty throughout the world and repelling tyrants from overthrowing free regimes.

The foundation for the alliance has been set, but the rest of the structure must be build up. This will require much effort, but is something that must be dealt with before the DoW becomes irrelevant.

Foreign Affairs
Foreign Affairs must take stock of our current diplomatic relations, and formalize them in some way. We also need to determine what kind of international state we want to become. Do we want to be in full alliances with other regions? Do we want to merely open up diplomatic conduits with worthy regions in order to share information and get invited to participate in multi-lateral actions? This must be addressed.

Ideally, by the end of the first term, I'd want a few stable embassies in worthy regions set up, staffed by many different nations from Canada. That way, everyone gets to participate.

We also need to dig through old diplomatic offers that have been ignored for the past 8 months, and at least get back to some of these regions. Opportunities likely have been lost, but I wish to let these other regions who have expressed interest in opening ties that we may still be interested. If anything, this will serve notice that Canada is back on the International scene.

Justice
I see the Justice Minister as being responsible for organizing our Law Library forum, and proposing a simple dispute resolution process for squabbles within our region. Also, a simple set of rules to follow when on these boards would be something that a Justice Minister should tackle.

Lastly, I see the Justice Minister spearheading a review of UN resolutions, and identifying weak ones that we, as a region, may want to target for removal or amendment. The Minister of Justice could then chair a UN lobby group, propose some UN proposals, and come up with a plan to contact delegates across the globe to approve it and send it to the voting stage.

Doughnuts and Beer
The Minister of D and B may be the most important minister we'll have. I'll be looking for the MDB to make these forums fun. I expect weekly postings about elements of Canadian culture. That could mean directing us to links of various doughnut shop chains, or sitting in front of a computer drinking different beer and posting his or her thoughts on them. It could mean starting a discussion thread as to whether or not Canadian women's Curling Champion Colleen Jones is the anti-christ.

All in all, I expect the MDB to provide the region with interesting cultural tidbits, and welcome diversions for those who are here to have fun, and have little interest in political matters.

Regional Affairs
The RA Minister will become an Admin of the boards (this is constitutionally mandated). I expect the MRA to assist in making the boards more user friendly, and facilitating communication on the boards, and directly to the nations of Canada.

The MRA will help create an environment and a "buzz" in the region that will make the forums a "happening" place. The key to a successful long term government and community, in my opinion, is ensuring massive participation on these boards. The MRA will be instrumental in doing this. In fact, the MRA will be a key to the long term survival of the region.

Conclusion
Through these and other initiatives, I simply hope to create a community where members of the region can participate as much or as little as they want. Whether it is to become active in government, participate as an ambassador, as a casual observer of UN issues, or just chatting with others in our off-topic, out of character forums, I want these forums to offer all members ability to participate to whatever extent that they wish.

Bweezy - good freaking job!! I think you have hit the nail on the head. Your post should help focus the near-term vision for the region. Well done...
