Title: Greetings from the Meritocracy

Legatus VIII - October 24, 2004 04:44 AM (GMT)
The Ambassadorial State of Legatus VIII has been sent by the Meritocratic Senate to work toward better relations with the region of Canada.

As the leader of Legatus VII, I'm looking forward to learning more about Canada and meeting its officials and learning about their views on different matters in the greater NS world.

If there are any questions on the Meritocracy, we'd be glad to answer them to the best of our ability.

Thank you.

Great. I'm sure our people will call your people :)

Are there any unique attributes about the Meritocracy that you wish to higlight for our reference?

For immediate info, I'll just direct you toward Legatus II's post here.

If you have any specific questions, please ask away.

Oh no, Canada is being overrun by Lagatii! :o

In all seriousness, as a one-time Merit Senator (my nation ceased to exist during my abscence, revoking my membership), I completely support closer relations with the Meritocracy. This organization consists of some the best and brightest from all areas of the NS world. I believe better relations would be mutually beneficial.

I've visited your forums repeatedly (a very impressive sight, I must admit). I have a small "details" issue with respect to the interpretation of your oath which I have communicated to you privately. Beyond that, I have one more question. I note that there appears to be a schism between the New Meritocracy and the ADN. Obviously I lack some historical information, as I am having difficulty understanding what exactly the issues are.

Would you care to offer a short summary of what this dispute is all about?

Legatus VIII - October 26, 2004 04:23 PM (GMT)
As to the issue with the oath, I have referred your PMs to my superiors in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will relay their answers when I receive them. Thanks for being patient.

As for the schism, it is not so much a schism as a difference of opinion.

As an organization that is based on regions that have active founder-states, the Meritocracy has little need for defense forces. Our current agreement with the ADN calls for us to provide assistance in times of crisis, but we can't honestly say we can provide such assistance due to our lack of defense forces.

On the other hand, we view our agreement with them as an opportunity to share intelligence. However, the ADN is reluctant to share such information without making sure they know where it is going to end up.

The Meritocracy has many states that are controlled by players who control other states that are members of such organzations as the PRP and other enemies of the ADN. We understand the ADN's wish to not see its intelligence end up in the hands of its enemies, but at the same time, the Meritocracy is an inclusive body that welcomes most anyone into its ranks.

It is less a schism as a difference of philosophies, and we are working with them to resolve our differences in a constructive manner.

The director of the ADN, Pope Hope, is herself a senator-state of the Meritocracy.

Thanks for the update - makes perfect sense to me. I can see why this would be a source of concern for both sides. It will be interesting to see if both parties can come up with a creative solution that reconciles both points of view.

I have gone to Dallas for a period of time. I will come around to the Meritocracy as soon as I can. Welcome to Canada!

Excuse my ignorance, but was anything ever done with this? Or did we merely neglect our duties, resulting in a closure of the embassy?

Thank you. :)

Ah - I believe the server crash ate the posts. The time stamps of most of the posts are from 2004 whereas Judith Gap's last post was in December 2006 - which was just prior to the server crash in January 2007.

If memory severs - although I could be wrong and am prepared to be correct - Canada chose not to establish formal diplomatic relations with The Meritocracy at that time.

I think you're right Carb.

Parrrrtay - March 18, 2007 12:39 AM (GMT)
I was MoFA at the time. Posul was here formally requesting diplomatic relations. Carbanousa is correct, Canada chose not to establish formal diplomatic relations with The Meritocracy at that time.

Alright. Thank you for the rapid answer to my inquiry. :)
