Title: UN Poll - Repeal "Fight the Axis of Evil"

Checkers McDog - October 19, 2004 04:48 PM (GMT)
This is NS's first UN repeal! Things to keep in mind:
- This is the original resolution
- The arguments of repeals don't necessarily matter, there are NO NEW LAWS being imposed on your nation, rather these one's will just be struck out.

This resolution will be up for vote until Saturday, October 23rd, at which time I'll cast my votes according to the majority outcome of this poll.

Remember, you are only permitted to vote in this poll if you're a member of the region of Canada, and no matter how many nations you have in the region, or how many offsite accounts you have, you are only permitted to vote once.

------------
Description: UN Resolution #1: Fight the Axis of Evil (Category: International Security; Strength: Strong) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: While there is much fear surrounding the issue of global terrorism, the answer is most definitely not for UN members to build massive numbers of weapons.

Four reasons:

Member nations should not be forced to have a large military budget, especially when so many are struggling to pay for domestic costs like healthcare and education.

The "Axis of Evil" could be use to label any country as an excuse for other countries to invade.

Terrorist organizations are just that, organizations, not armies, and therefore large forces are not necessary to eliminate them.

Finally, massive mobilization of troops and building of weapons only serves to bring about fear in the minds of the people.

The best way to combat global terrorism is through intelligence; perhaps a new resolution regarding this should be brought to the floor.

I voted in favour of the repeal. I've long wanted that one done away with.

The description posted, is the description of the repeal. The original resolution is linked at the top.

Gotta say I am digging the new repeal process already.

I vote Yes emphatically.

This one is pretty easy to support, especially given the vagueness and shortsightedness of the original resolutions.

Yeah. It's got my vote.

In the real world, intelligence truly is the way to go. Its the way to evade wars.

Since using brute strength has worked so well in Iraq, Israel, and Afghanistan in real life, I'll have to agree to repeal this law.

..man, how'd this one get passed, even?

This one was passed by a vote of 2-1 (or was it 1-0?) This was teh first one passed, when there were few nations. Nowadays, proposals have to go through the scrutiny of several thousand UN nations, so it is harder (though not impossible) to pass such bare bones and flawed resolutions.

Passed 2-1....and I assume one of the one's for it was the author, so that doesn't really count... :D

The repealing of 'Fight the Axis of Evil' was passed 13,343 votes to 2,722. The resolution is no longer in effect.

I cast my votes FOR this resolution, based on the results of this poll.
