Title: Status of the Delegacy
Description: TD and Bweezystan
bweezy - January 12, 2004 06:52 PM (GMT)
For about a week, there has been a "movement" to have me replace TD as delegate. Some have been concerned about TD's lack of participation recently. I've let everyone know that TD simply has real life job commitments which restrict his access to Nationstates at this time. I am under the impression that this restriction in access is only temporary.
While I, like most of us, are loyal to TD, I understand why everyone wants a more "hands on" delegate. As such, I have consented to being made delegate on a temporary basis. This will involve nations who are supportive of both TD and myself to simply unendorse TD for the time being.
If all goes according to plan, I'll become delegate, and will be able to address normal day-to-day issues (such as approving new UN proposals to go to a vote, voting on behalf of Canada on UN resolutions, taking care of spammers, etc.).
Once TD has signalled that his access to Nation States has returned to normal, we'll all re-endorse him and put him back into place as delegate.
Is everyone in agreement with this?
I thank everyone in advance for their cooperation.

I'll head over, and withdraw my endorsement now

Sounds reasonable and appropriate to me.
'Course if'n y'all do a good job, we can just run TD out of town on a fence rail!

Congratulations on becoming Delegate Bweezy! :) :)
bweezy - January 13, 2004 01:45 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys.
The following nations unendorsed TD:
Boardz
Micon
Checkers McDog
Boreal Tundra
I had unendorsed him, but, decided to re-endorse given my unexpectedly large lead. My reasoning was that if some medical or technological issue suddenly makes me unable to be around here, then by having TD already endorsed, it will make it easier for you guys to remove me and re-endorse TD. (put another way, if I'm in a coma somewhere, I sure as heck won't be able to re-endorse TD, so I might as well keep him endorsed to make things easier should I somehow become incapacitated).
How's that for disaster planning?
One other thing has come to my attention - our plan to re-endorse TD may be problematic. If the four noted nations re-endorse TD, due to a surge in my own endorsement count, TD will not be able to retake the delegacy (he'll be behind 49-47).
This is an issue we'll likely have to address later on (but then again, maybe not). I just thought I'd alert you all to this unexpected twist.

Congrats on the Delegacy.
WRT re-endorsing TD I am sure we can make it happen if we need to. The only problem I see is if TD's endorsements drop or the other nations increase their endorsement numbers then it becomes more difficult to get him back if we wanted to.
I guess only time will tell.
Boardz - January 13, 2004 02:12 PM (GMT)
It may be worth mentioning to new UN Nations within our region. If we ask them to endorse Bweezy and TD there should be no problem.
This way the TD will always be there as a second in command.
Is it worth nominating a third just in case.
Triple redundancy in all things  (jeez - you can tell I work in the computer industry <_< )
Just out of interest, who is third in the running order and are they trustworthy enough to take on the responsibilty?
bweezy - January 13, 2004 03:11 PM (GMT)
I don't knwo for sure, but Checkers and Micon were at 38 and 37 endorsements respectively as of yesterday - I think they are both in the hunt for "third in command".
Checkers McDog - January 13, 2004 10:30 PM (GMT)
I believe that I'm trustworthy enough to be third in command
bweezy - January 13, 2004 10:56 PM (GMT)
I think that's a safe thing to assume CM. You've always conducted yourself in an honest and forthright manner on these forums.
Checkers McDog - January 13, 2004 11:21 PM (GMT)
unfortunately, I'm actually behind Micon now in endorsements
bweezy - January 14, 2004 05:48 AM (GMT)
Those four of you who unendorsed TD should feel free to re-endorse him. My endorsement count has ballooned over the last 24 hours to 50. TD has dropped to 42 (due in part to several of his endorser nations either leaving Canada or ceasing to exist - those same nations had not endorsed me, thus making the gulf between us much larger).
That is a difference of 8 endorsements, which in my view, is a little larger than I'd like it to be.
As such, I'd encourage you all to re-endorse TD, so that he is within striking distance of me should I suddenly disappear mysteriously, or should I be otherwise deemed unfit to continue as Delegate.

I can't image that would ever happen. :D

Cool - Checkers for Assistant Delegate! Does this position have an official recognition in the constitution? Does it fall under the clauses about each office having an assistant?

I don't think there is anything official at this point. I'm allowed to appoint a Deputy PM - I'll do that once cabinet is in place. I think I'll just appoint whoever has the second most endorsements, as the person with the second most endorsement will be the one that will be easiest to replace me at the Delegate level should I disappear suddenly.

oh right....
er..... Micon for Delegate's assistant. Serves me right for not reading the discussion thread properly.
Let that be a lesson to me!

no, you were right the first time
I have more endorsements than micon now

oops! way to quote the wrong person...
that was actually in response to boarz's post
Micon - January 15, 2004 10:22 PM (GMT)
It is good that we have many nations who have a substantial number of endorsements as several nations could step up if needed.
And not be taken over should something happen to the delegate.
Checkers McDog - January 15, 2004 10:26 PM (GMT)
very true
does anybody know what other nations are in the 35+ range of endorsements?
just wondering....
bweezy - January 15, 2004 10:30 PM (GMT)
Off the top of my head I only know of you, me, TD and Micon. There are several in the 20 range, not sure if anyone else is over 30...

Man we are as bad as each other!!!!!! :D
Righty.... in which case I totally change my decision. Anyone for Regional Assistant Delegate!!!
In all seriousness I am more than happy to see any of you guys take the lead. Just so long as we can definitely identify native UN Nations as opposed to malicious UN puppets.
Checkers McDog - January 16, 2004 03:53 PM (GMT)
hey, look at that, I even spelled your name wrong....I was really off yesterday :D
Boardz - January 16, 2004 04:02 PM (GMT)
I can forgive
I didn't even notice!
Micon - January 16, 2004 05:51 PM (GMT)
In my travels through The North Pacific I found a post about nations doing what is called endorsement swapping. It is definitely something we need to worry about as it could happen here. It would be more difficult as we are small and would likely recognize the tactic.
Endorsement Swapping works as follows.
A TG is recieved requesting an endorsement for the endorsement given. Once the endorsement is recieved the TG ming nation removes the endorsement, and dissapears into the 7000 other nations. It becomes difficult to remove the endorsement cause you may not remember who the nation is.
I'll check into this further.
Micon

As the nation gets larger, this will be a bigger problem. In the Pacific nations, where delegates have 600 or more endorsements, it is very difficult to keep track - most Pacific nations have a circle of endorsement counters who keep track of those who start compiling huge amounts of endorsements.

thats a hell of a job to be keeping up.
is there an easy way of doing, like a reporting tool?

Not that I know of. From what I've gleaned from regions like the SP, is that they have a huge network of nations, and once they get endorsed, the look up the nation that endorsed them. Eventually, a region will endorse someone in the inner circle at a time when the endorsing region has several hundred endorsements - they immediately go on a "list" and are surveyed closely.
