Title: A new regional government
Las Chupacabras - August 20, 2003 06:35 AM (GMT)
Fellow Canadians (or Yankee posers like myself),
It's become obvious in the last few weeks that the old constitution, with its Cabinet and other structures, has ceased to operate. Several players have gone AWOL, while others, including myself, have lost interest. At the last elections, most posts, including prime minister, went unfilled.
I think we may have been too ambitious with our old constitution. The fact is that we can't do much in the framework of this game; we can't set interest rates or determine agricultural policy. Whatever government we do have will have to be more informal and realistic, something along the lines of a council of 5 members, which may or may not have specific departmental duties. It probably will not require a court system, or even a Speaker of the House.
Whatever comes out of this will be a relatively small affair - we all have lives away from NationStates, after all. I welcome any proposals you may have for our new constitution.

Well, chopsuii, we'll probably hold elections to the council, but feel free to run.

To run for council do we need any qualifications?

I don't think one needs any specific qualifications.
I propose that we have a council consisting of the delegate and 4-6 other members elected by ballot. To elect a member, we can either have 4-6 separate elections, with each person running for a separate set (for example, a candidate would run for seat 1, seat 2, etc.), or we can simply elect by a general ticket, in which, say, 10 people declare their candidacies, and the top 4-6 vote-getters of the ten obtain seats.

a general election with the top vote getters elected is probably a lot easier to put together IMO.
The UN delegate of course would hold one chair and that would rotate as that person changed. If a chair holder was elected delgate then a replacement would then be elected. Or we could have the ex delegate take the spot as well. there are a few ways to do that I guess.
