Title: Australia!
Description: I am soo lucky!! lol

JCSam - May 31, 2005 06:41 PM (GMT)
I am going to Australia this summer!! :D And since a load of you guys are Australian.... :P

Ok, well I am only going to Western Australia, cos my aunt and uncle live near Perth but basically we are going to exploring a load of the west coast!! And I had a couple of questions I hoped you might be able to help me with!!!!!

1) Is Wimbledon shown on freeview TV???? That is an essential question!!!

2) Will the cricket between England and Australia be shown on free view????

3) Are the soccer season and the aussie rules seasons on during June/July???

And, is there anything anyone can recommend we do?? We are hiring a motorhome and going at least north, probably as far as Monkey Mia??? Cos you see then we are going to see Delta Goodrem in concert in Perth on the 8th, so after that we might go to Calgary?? I think thats where it is anyway!!

I would love to hear any suggestions you have!!!!! I can't wait to go!!! :flower:

miztreated - May 31, 2005 09:28 PM (GMT)
OMG Sam, are you sure you can't come to Melbourne for like...two days? I have days off from uni during June/July, I could so show you around!

But to answer your questions:

- Wimbledon is NOT on free-to-air telly, unless you stay up to 1 or 2 in the morning.
- Cricket probably will be, but I never pay much attention to that.
- Aussie Rules will be on! Go see a game at Subiaco (that's the ground in WA). Don't see Fremantle, they suck. Go and see a West Coast game.
- I have NO idea about Aussie soccer, but you won't want to go and see that anyway, trust me.
- And I don't know anything about Western Australia, so I have no suggestions. Renae (ferreros_girl23) is from Perth, so she might be able to help you out more.

And ask if you can come by Melbourne!

You were giving me a scare there Amanda! I thought you meant Wimbledon is not going to be on channel 9 AT ALL.... :( Due to the time difference all the other slams are on odd hours of the morning anyway..... coverage usually starts at 10.30pm?

Oh well I can live with that!! I'll just tell my parents I'm still jetlagged

I'd luv to come to Melbourne Amanda, but I can't :( I really wanted to come, and go to Sydney as well but the dates don't work!! If the concert was on the 15th or something instead then I'd be able to

I'll just have to come again!!! haha....no distance at all!!

I will definitely go and see an Aussie Rules game...I have no idea about the rules though...must look them up!!!

Thanx!!!

Booshie - June 2, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
Aww Sam, this sounds like such a great opportunity!!! :flower: I'm sure you'll have the time of your life. How long are you going to be in Australia? For the whole summer? :)

Sorry luv! But Channel 9 coverage? <_< Better for Wimbledon than for RG, but....*sigh* I really cbb staying up for Wimbledon because once you start watching a GOOD game at 10.30pm, chances are it'll go onto 2pm anyway. Plus they tend to only show the Aussies. *sigh* Lleyton Schmeyton..

Hey, I'm almost definite that the Delta concerts in Melbourne aren't sold out yet! There was heaps of controversy cause she found it really hard to sell tickets, I think a lot of Australia are sick of Delta-fever. It's been replaced by Kylie-breast-cancer-fever.

So....maybe you could come to Melbourne after all! See whether you can change your concert tickets. ;) And then you could kill four birds with one stone: 1) Go to Melbourne, 2) See me, 3) Go to the concert, 4) and I'll take you to an AFL game! Problem solved! :D

JCSam - June 2, 2005 05:10 PM (GMT)
Booshie - I am in Australia from the 24rd June - 18th July...I spend 2 days in Dubai on the way back!!

Amanda - I can't though because of my aunt and uncle.... :( they are coming with us to the concert and everything!! My aunt is australian you see! Delta is my sisters favourite singer ever!!

But I will definitely come to Australia again (I've decided that I have to go to the East Coast!), maybe on my gap year (which my parents don't exactly know about yet! ) or at least during my summer holidays from uni sometime! Then I will definitely come to Melbourne and I will hold you to that promise about the AFL match!!

Btw, same if you ever come to Barcelona I will show you around....or Scotland if I get into uni at St. Andrews like I want to! And I'll take you to a football match!! :P

yeh..they do tend to show all the aussies first or if not them, players like tim henmann or andy roddick...so unless you're up for watching that! kekeek
but nah..seriously..that does tend to happen
..didn't they used to show RG on channel 9 on free-to-air tv..i remember watching it like 2 yrs ago...*sighs*

Ok, I'm holding you to that promise! You have to come to Melbourne within the next two years, preferably at a time when I'll be here too! LOL (That basically means, not at Christmas ;) )

Mate, don't just show me around Barcelona, take me around all of Spain! We'll fiesta all night, and siesta all day!

Isn't St. Andrews where Prince William went? :D Too bad Harry's gone into the army, it would have been VERY nice if he went to St. Andrews too. ;)

Marionette - June 3, 2005 11:41 AM (GMT)
Sam! Come to Sydneeeeeeyyy! Or at least, near-Sydney *cough* near me *cough* Ahhhh Delta... Hrmmmm... Have fun hun. I have no idea whether it'll be cold or hot in WA. Amanda and I live on the other side of the country, it's odd.

A bit OT, but I'm sick of the "Kylie-breast-cancer-fever". Do people support the cancer council as much even when someone famous doesn't have cancer? Ugh. Sorry, but I saw Delta/Kylie fever somewhere up there.

JCSam - June 3, 2005 08:45 PM (GMT)
Yep, St. Andrews is where Prince William went...but can I just say that has nothing to do with it!!! that's what my teacher said to me when he asked me if I knew where I wanted to apply!!!! He's graduated now anyway!

QUOTE

What do you want to siesta for??? We don't sleep here!! lol!!! Just fiesta all 24 hours!! :P Ok, that's a deal though!!!

I'll settle for watching Henman Katrelle :P...he does make you suffer though!!
Oohh....*evil thought*...maybe the Australian players can all come down with mystery ailments...then they might show some europeans....

maybe we can give Hewitt a helping hand to fall down the stairs

^^sorry...I didn't say that!! Rafa's win has put me into a weird mood! sorry to you hewitt fans!

I'll come and see you Tracey....when I go to Melbourne!! Promise!!!

Marionette - June 4, 2005 01:49 AM (GMT)
But I don't live in Melbourne, Sam :P Bwahahahaha!

JCSam - June 4, 2005 05:43 AM (GMT)
But Melbourne is closer to Sydney than Perth is!!! Even with my limited geographical knowledge of Australia I think that's the case!!! :D

Marionette - June 4, 2005 05:57 AM (GMT)
You're right lol, but they're still in different states. (But Sydney's better than Melbourne and Perth anyway :P Hahahah jk!)

miztreated - June 4, 2005 10:18 AM (GMT)
Melbourne's so better. We have more culture, food, sport and hot guys. Plus Neighbours is filmed here. Ditto Rove Live. So HA Tracey! :P

JCSam - June 4, 2005 11:26 AM (GMT)
Ah, but you both lose cos neither of you have got Juan Carlos!! Ok, so technically neither have I cos he is from Valencia, but it's fairly close!!! :P And Rafa and Carlos too!!

And, offically I have Tommy....I have actually been to the place he is from, its only about 1h something from where I live!!! so there!!

But I'm sure both Melbourne and Sydney are great!! (and Perth of course!!! )

juanquilover - June 4, 2005 07:12 PM (GMT)
why doesn't someone come to London?!?!

Australia clearly is the place to be at the moment, everyone i know is going there!

Have a great time

ferreros_girl23 - June 5, 2005 06:15 AM (GMT)
Welcome to my corner of the world Sam!!! I live in Perth so anything u need to kno about this place just ask...Um Wimby shud b on free to air; the finals are usually on at about 8.30 at night so they're watchable but all the other rounds are usually reli late at night because it's a delayed telacast. If your staying in like a hotel, they shud have cable and that shud hav tennis. And the channel SBS is broadcasting the ashes live *woop*.

miztreated - June 5, 2005 08:06 AM (GMT)
Hey Onny, I want to come to London! Buckingham Palace, Prince William, Prince Harry, Robbie Williams, watch out! (and wait while I save up..... )

juanquilover - June 5, 2005 06:09 PM (GMT)
Ach, yes Amanda, i want to show people around like whoa! I officially know the best places, as well as some guy who goes to Eton so you never know, maybe the princes or at least some kind of Lord/Duke!

Hopefully Aga *hint* will come this year!

JCSam - June 5, 2005 07:06 PM (GMT)
Hi Renae!!

1 question...what is the weather usually like at that time of year???End of June + beginning of July???

And, excuse my ignorance, but is SBS a cable channel?? I have no idea about the Australian TV channels!!

We aren't staying in a hotel, well at least not for most of the time - we are hiring a motorhome and going up the coast, to Monkey Mia...along there anyway!! But the 1st night we are in a hotel, and maybe if we need a break from the motorhome...have a bit of luxury!!

Well I'll keep my fingers crossed that I'll get to see some!! :P Thanks a lot!

Marionette - June 6, 2005 11:12 AM (GMT)
Hahahaha SBS is like, the foreign channel. Stands for "Special Broadcasting Service". All the awesome shows are on it, like Iron Chef and RocKwiz :P Oh abnd all the news from different countries.

miztreated - June 7, 2005 02:41 AM (GMT)
Oooooh Onny! I so want to meet someone with a title. "Lady Amanda". "Princess Amanda". "Duchess Amanda". "Baroness Amanda". I'm liking the sound of this. :D

Aaaaaaaand Sam....SBS is a public service broadcaster like BBC in the UK. It's government funded, though since the government is being a tightarse, they've started having to show advertisement between programs (though thankfully, not DURING programs like the commercial stations), in order to fund the broadcasting.

And this all relates somehow to my Media exam on Thursday. Television politics, political economy, influence of advertising.....wOOt I know my stuff!

JCSam - June 7, 2005 03:51 PM (GMT)
Great!! So there is no problem watching the cricket! :D Merci!!

Good luck with your exam Amanda! Internet is media anyway so you are really studying by browsing this site!! :P Not sure how it helps me do my history homework on the American Civil War though!!

btw...we have royalty in Spain too :P

1 other question....totally random...about what time does it get dark???!! :flower:

Thank you all again!

Veer-loves-Juan - June 7, 2005 05:39 PM (GMT)
Wow Sam what a great news! To Australia! How wonderful..! I'm really really happy for ya hun, have a great time! [sure you do]

anyways if somebody would like to come to Enschede feel free to!

WELL. There were soldiers in the American Civil War. And these soldiers were all men. And they had to be trained in army combat. Which is a form of exercise. Tennis is a form of exercise too. Juan Carlos plays tennis. This forum is based on Juan Carlos. Therefore, you are, in a very roundabout way, studying the American Civil War.

Oh, and you'll be here in our winter! It's already starting to get dark here in Melbourne from about 5pm onwards. It's probably about the same in Perth. Too bad you're not coming in our summer. It doesn't get dark until about 9pm then.

Susie - June 8, 2005 09:54 AM (GMT)

Yeh I luv the Iron Chef! That host guy is intense and the english voice overs are hilarious. In fact, and I'm not ashamed to admit it, I luv SBS in general  . They show the soccer, the best docos and foreign films B) with minimal ads.

Yeah I know I'm coming in your winter Amanda, but it's the only way we get to have that much time there!! Because we only get 2 weeks at Christmas time! But almost 3 months for the summer! :D

I leave 2 weeks tomorrow!! B)

Sadhbh - June 8, 2005 07:18 PM (GMT)
I wish I would get that long for the summer we only get 5 weeks. I hope ot go to Australia when I leave school or my mam decideds she is going to take us. One of my friends used to go every year she says she loves it.

Ah, shame you're not coming in summer, you'd have had heaps of fun getting sunburnt and melting and drowning in your own sweat. <_<
It's not like you need a tan Sam, it's warm in Spain, right?

I like winter anyway, I don't know if it rains a lot in WA or now *shrugs*

Sadhbh - June 10, 2005 07:49 AM (GMT)
As this is about Australia I thought I should post this. It is absolutaly hilarious. They are questions that were posted on a tourism site.

Q: Does it ever get windy in Australia? I have never seen it rain on TV,
how do the plants grow? (UK).
A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around watching
them die.

Q: Will I be able to see kangaroos in the street? (USA)
A: Depends how much you've been drinking.

Q: I want to walk from Perth to Sydney - can I follow the railroad
tracks? (Sweden)
A: Sure, it's only three thousand miles, take lots of water.

Q: Is it safe to run around in the bushes in Australia? (Sweden)
A: So it's true what they say about Swedes.

Q: Are there any ATMs (cash machines) in Australia? Can you send me a
list of them in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and Hervey Bay? (UK)

A: What did your last slave die of?

Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Australia?
(USA)
A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe.
Aus-tra-lia is that big island in the middle of the Pacific which does
not... oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every tuesday night in
Kings Cross. Come naked.

Q: Which direction is North in Australia? (USA)
A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here
and we'll send the rest of the directions.

Q: Can I bring cutlery into Australia? (UK)
A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do.

Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (USA)

A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which
is...oh forget it.
Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Kings Cross,
straight after the hippo races. Come naked.

Q: Can I wear high heels in Australia? ( UK)
A: You are a British politician, right?

Q: Are there supermarkets in Sydney and is milk available all year
round? (Germany)
A: No, we are a peaceful civilization of vegan hunter/gatherers. Milk is
illegal.

Q: Please send a list of all doctors in Australia who can dispense
rattlesnake serum. (USA)
A: Rattlesnakes live in A-meri-ca which is where YOU come from. All
Australian snakes are perfectly harmless, can be safely handled and
make good pets.

Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Australia, but I forget
its name. It's a kind of bear and lives in trees. (USA)
A: It's called a Drop Bear. They are so called because they drop out of
Gum trees and eat the brains of anyone walking underneath them. You can
scare them off by spraying yourself with human urine before you go out
walking.

Q: Do you have perfume in Australia? (France)
A: No, WE don't stink.

Q: I have developed a new product that is the fountain of youth. Can you
tell me where I can sell it in Australia? (USA)
A: Anywhere significant numbers of Americans gather.

Q: Can you tell me the regions in Tasmania where the female population
is smaller than the male population? (Italy)
A: Yes, gay nightclubs.

Q: Do you celebrate Christmas in Australia? (France)
A: Only at Christmas.

Q: I was in Australia in 1969 on R+R, and I want to contact the girl I
dated while I was staying in Kings Cross. Can you help? (USA)
A: Yes, and you will still have to pay her by the hour.

Q: Will I be able to speak English most places I go? (USA)
A: Yes, but you'll have to learn it first

Lloydsgurl - June 10, 2005 01:53 PM (GMT)
 LOL!!

Have a good trip Sam!!

ferreros_girl23 - June 10, 2005 02:38 PM (GMT)
If you've come to Perth hoping for some good ol' sunshine, I'm sorry to disappoint u Sam. Perth's just recorded the wetest start to winter in half a century. Hasn't stopped raining...we've had some hail too. But personally, I luv this kind of weather...snuggling under the blankets (with my teddy bear that is) with a good book. It's not TOO cold, winter's much milder than our summers.

JCSam - June 10, 2005 04:52 PM (GMT)
Roisin - Don't worry, I love you too honey!! :P But you are already on holiday...I've got a week and a half to go!! <_<

Tracey and Renae - No I'm not really bothered about the sun/heat...I have a pretty good tan already!! :P I was just wondering to know what type of clothes to bring! Oh well...if I take the wrong clothes I will just have to buy more! What a sacrifice! lol

Sadhbh - That thing is hilarious!! How can people be so stupid???

JCSam - July 2, 2005 08:21 AM (GMT)

Sadhbh - July 2, 2005 08:28 AM (GMT)
hey nice to see you Sam hope you are enjoying your holiday and I hope it's sunnier than it is over here.

Marionette - July 2, 2005 12:38 PM (GMT)
SAAAAAMMMMMM. Ooooh, so you're enjoying the west coast? LOL. I hope you're having fun! Come back soon!

miztreated - July 3, 2005 03:05 AM (GMT)
Eeeeeee Sam!!! How are you enjoying Australia? Are we the friendliest people around or what? ;)

Ick, Fremantle. :( Too bad you didn't get to see the Eagles yesterday against Carlton, otherwise I'd tell you to look out for Ben Cousins (no. 9). There's some serious droolage there. :D In Fremantle though, I SUPPOSE you could look out for Heath Black (no.21). I've got a bit of a crush on him. Everyone else in Fremantle is a bit urgh though. :)

Anyway, I hope you're having bucketloads of fun, and thanks heaps for updating us! ;) Luff you heaps hun!
