Description: pics

roisin - July 12, 2003 10:18 PM (GMT)
hi all. im just wonderin how do u get a pic in2 a msg?

Scottie_theNerd - July 12, 2003 10:23 PM (GMT)
At the post-message screen, there is a section for 'File Attachments' underneath the post icons. Select 'Browse' to open up your file and select the picture you want to attach. It will automatically appear when you make the post.

Also keep in mind you can attach non-picture files, in case some of you are interesting in sharing documents, or even music. Remember though, don't make them too large, not everyone has ADSL or Cable ^_^

Edit: 5-minute response. Don't you love efficient and reliable technical support? :D

Maybe I'm really dumb (quite likely, actually), but I'm not seeing anything that says "file attachments"... where exactly should I be looking? Sorry. Completely computer illiterate I'm afraid

Don't worry Rachel, the first pic I attatched didn't show up...*ugh*
When you're typing a post, just look under the Post Icons where it says File Attatchments --you can then browse for the pic file from your pc and when you hit Add Reply, the file should become attatched to your post.

Sorry for the dodgy explenation, I hope it helps!

Rachel - July 13, 2003 11:14 AM (GMT)
me again, sorry.

i swear, there is nothing that says file attachments! i know, i know, you're thinking, "how dumb can one girl be?" but under the post icons all i have is "add reply" and "preview post". honest. :)

Scottie_theNerd - July 13, 2003 11:42 AM (GMT)
You should have the following screen. If not, I guess I messed something up.

However, several users are able to post pictures, so it should be fine.

Also, it might take a while for pictures to actually appear, so just attach them and leave it.

Rachel - July 13, 2003 11:54 AM (GMT)
Thanks for your help...but I really don't have that screen :( It just isn't there! Really it isn't...can you think of any reason it wouldn't be? anything to do with my internet settings or anything like that? (grasping at straws here).

Scottie_theNerd - July 13, 2003 12:01 PM (GMT)
I was about to ask you to post a screenshot of your screen. Then I realised how stupid I am.

I'll get back to you as soon as I find the problem.

Edit: Would you be able to email me a screenshot of your posting screen instead? Might help a bit. Thanks.

Rachel - July 13, 2003 12:05 PM (GMT)
ROFL! my screen is basically the same as what you sent me, just without the whole bit that says "file attachments" and the bit to browse for a file. literally, after the "post icons" bit, there's just the darker blue (grey?) bar with "add reply" and "preview post", and then the last posts in reverse order... sorry to be such a pain!

oops, sorry, i posted the last one before i read your second one. um...i did mention i'm completely useless with computers, didn't i? how might i go about emailing you a screenshot??

Scottie_theNerd - July 13, 2003 12:08 PM (GMT)
Don't worry about the screenshot, I know what you're talking about. Still haven't found the problem. Would you happen to have a firewall?

Rachel - July 13, 2003 12:12 PM (GMT)
oh god. i don't know!! maybe? how would i know?

i'm so sorry. i should be shot for knowing so little about computers.

actually...now you come to mention it, if i accidentally try to sign in to msn messenger without connecting to the internet first, i think the error message i get says something about a firewall...probably irrelevant tho, right?

Scottie_theNerd - July 13, 2003 12:17 PM (GMT)
Oh, it's really simple. All you have to do is...*brb toilet* :P

j/k

As far as I know, attaching files is enabled for you, so it's likely to be something on your side. I suggest letting it wait a bit, and see if anyone else is experiencing the problem. Again, I'll let you know if I find something.

Don't worry about your computer illiteracy. That's why I'm here ^_^

Rachel - July 13, 2003 12:20 PM (GMT)
thanks...i'll see if one of my computer wizardy friends has any ideas in the meantime!

There is another way to post images, and more popular too.

In the Code Buttons section of your posting screen, there is a button labelled IMG. If you know the web-address for a certain picture, you can copy it into the IMG popup box, which will find the image and display it in your post.

The only difference is that IMG will post the full image in the message, while the attachment will display a thumbnail, which displays the full image when clicked on.

Rachel - July 13, 2003 02:04 PM (GMT)
oh, cool! thanks a lot!

No problem, just overlooked that function.

For example, if I wanted to post a certain picture from JCF-Online, I would obtain the URL and copy it into the IMG box.

user posted image

And it would appear like that.

Feel free to put it in your signature, just don't make it stand out too much. Also, don't make individual posts advertising your site. Otherwise, it's perfectly fine.

Alex - July 21, 2003 09:23 PM (GMT)
