Title: Formula One 2004
Description: For the love of the sport!

I really think that Forumla One deserves a thread of its own on this Forum! *nods*
I'm hoping though that there are other F1 fans lurking around here and if you're not a fan, there's never been a better time to become one! ;)

Round One - Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia
*pouts* extremely bad weekend for
Kimi. *Lily is not happy*
He barely did 10 laps before he had "engine problems" and to be honest, the McLaren just didn't seem to be there at all on Sunday ~ he was being harrassed by Massa for god sakes! <_<
Oh well... in case you're all wondering who this "
Kimi" is that I'm rambling on about...
Pic One <--- Kimi Räikkönen in black.
Pic Two <--- Kimi looking determined... LoL
Pic Three <--- Kimi w/ McLaren Mercedes team-mate, David Coulthard.
I must admit that I also have a soft spot for
Ralf Schumacher... ...so it was nice to have him up there in a point scoring position...plus, he finished ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya *snickers* that is always a bonus!
Lalli - March 8, 2004 06:25 AM (GMT)
Oh Lily, I was wondering whether I could start a F1 thread or not, you have just done that.
btw, were you there in Albert park yesterday??. I watched in TV and was supporting Rubeno to win.
so, is Kimi your fav F1 driver???
kat - March 8, 2004 07:36 AM (GMT)
Lily!!! LOL.... thanks for posting the Kimi pics... gees, I think Kimi & JC should go seek some beauty advice together!!!!!
Liz - March 8, 2004 08:25 AM (GMT)
<_< <--- That is me, because I didn't get to go this year. First year since I moved back to Melbourne....I am sure Jamie Durie missed my presence in dads tent. lol
It was too bad about Kimi though :(
Phillip - March 8, 2004 10:41 AM (GMT)
i went on sat and sun this year and it was great as usual! it looks like ferrari are going to dominate this year again with that new model. they always seem to raise the bar every year. i was very surprised with the mc laren team's finish. but it looks like bmw are going to be on ferrari's tail this year.

LoL Kat!! I was thinking the exact same thing! ;) ...awww poor boys, at least they're both wonderfully talented, which *does* make up for it to an extent!
Lalli ~ yes yes Kimi is my absolute fav!!! And no I did not go this year. :( ...but hopefully next year I will. The thing is though that you really don't get to "see" much of the action when you're there (I went last year) and so I personally didn't like the whole experience as much... I mean the atmosphere is just amazing, the cars are to die for, but for watching the actual race proceedings, I'd really rather be at home in front of a plasma screen and surround sound. LoL
I don't really mind Ferrari, and I respect Michael Schumacher for everything he's achieved, but if the rest of the season is going to pan out for Ferrari like in Melbourne, then what's the point?!? :(
Taateli - March 8, 2004 04:54 PM (GMT)
I´m not exactly a F1 fan, but Kimi Räikkönen is Finnish, so of course I´m cheering on him! And when I was younger, I was a huge fan, it was so nice to watch when Mika Häkkinen was winning... :)
It was so heartbreaking to watch Kimi this weekend. He deserves a much better car!

i know! it comes to the question whether or not ferrari are degrading the sport and making it predictable. but it's the same with any other sport, like tennis with serena and maybe federer. personally i disagree with the notion that these people make the sport too predictable because competitive sports encourage the best to take that position and hold it. ferrari have proved over and over again that they have what it takes because they have a great car and two skilled drivers. they raise the bar in competition which brings other teams to match up and only hightens the performance of the game that we get to see.
yeah kimi's car had a lot of technical faults apparently. mercedes weren't even happy during testing and they kind of knew it during qualifying.

Yay, an F1 thread. ^_^
I don't have a particular fave driver (
though I like Jenson Button - hence the avatar - heh, it's being patriotic ;)), and I'm not a
huge fan of it.
And I must admit I find its predictability a little boring with M.Schumacher winning too often and Ferrari dominating the constructors' thingamajig
(<- ?). Didn't they change the rules of some things last year to make it a bit more interesting? I think it helped a bit...
A newspaper article about some changes of some sort
here. It confused me somewhat when I read it, but I did just skimm through it in the article in the last 5 mins of my lunchtime. Also, there are many links there to other articles, if you're interested in reading them. ^_^ Though they are biased from a British perspective of course...-_-
Sorry all that's a bit haphazard, but I'm quite tired...zzz...-_-
katrelle - March 9, 2004 06:41 AM (GMT)
i was really sad to see that mark webber didnt finish the race!..he's a really nice guy, not to mention good on the eyes! its good the jensen got in on the points tho!...he's also one of my faves :P

I know, but the pic's a still from a few adverts that have been on TV here. Actually to advertise digital TV, which they constantly say to press the red
button. (It took me ages to make that connection:
button ).
There are a few more similar pix of him lying around that look more like him. I'll look later coz if I don't go now, I'll be late for school. ^_^
Edit: Some of the Jenson Button pix from the TV ads:

And where you can watch the TV ads:
here.
And this pic (the one I used for my avatar) that I can't find on the site:

Yes, Lily- the race was almost over even before the completion of ten laps, no one overtaking another, it was Schumi, Rubeno and Alonso all the way.
roisin - March 9, 2004 08:25 PM (GMT)
i luv F1! its deadly, very exciting alth no1 is gonna beat ferrari 4 this season at least, their car is so darn gud! n mickey s is the master!

That's a v.good point Lalli ~ I think that's really one of the worst aspects of the sport. I mean these cars are capable of doing SOOOO much and yet v.rarely do we see any passing action from the frontrunners!
Can you imagine how exciting F1 would be if the cars overtook each other even half as often as the bikes in Moto GP?!?

yeah that wud b brilliant! in a way F1 is predictable but MotoGP is way better 4 the excitement n the races arent as long so u dont get bored! altho rossi irritates me cos he's far 2 gud!
Lily - March 12, 2004 07:29 AM (GMT)
LoL ...Roison ~ love how you're trashing Rossi even though he's really just the Mikey of the Moto GP world! :P ...but Valentino is going to struggle this season at Yamaha anyways, so I think I will keep an eye out for him. :)

It would be really very very brilliant just as roisin has said, not only for the spectators but for the racers as well. (i'm sure everybody loves competition!)
Ferrari seems to be doing very good, though they have banned the automatic gear boxes and inspite of a lot of limitations.

I know! Isn't it ridiculous?!
I know that Ferrari are THE top team, but Michael is also an amazing asset to them, so it's really no surprise that they're dominating.
For kicks though, I would soooo love to see Michael in a Minardi just to see how he would go...LoL

It would be great if he could win in Minardi, coz it's a great challenge and it will show the mark of a true champ, driving without much help from the car.
Taateli - March 17, 2004 05:09 PM (GMT)
It´s a bit off topic, but I wanted you to know, that Kimi is getting married this summer! I just read it from some Finnish magazines yesterday :D He and Jenni (she was Miss Finland and Miss Skandinavia 2000), got engaged a couple of years ago, and are now getting married in the end of July..
Lalli - March 18, 2004 05:33 AM (GMT)
Lilly, did u read that??? Kimi is marrying. :o
Back to the topic, its said that Ferrari's Bridgestone tyres are not so helpful in the hot conditions of Malaysia and the teams using Michellin tyres should take complete advantage of this.
But can't say anything about Ferrari, I'm sure they must have done something to try and keep their domination.
Lily - March 18, 2004 09:02 AM (GMT)
*sad* :( ...well they have been engaged for quite a while now... so it really was the inevitable next step...
Have to say that they look really sweet in that photo Taateli posted... so to even things up, a photo in which they don't look so perfect:
Phillip - March 18, 2004 10:14 AM (GMT)
lol! get the hatsaw and chop that heel! they do look good in the other pic though. she's very pretty and good luck to their marriage! poor lily! guess you'll just have to find another single F1 driver!
Lily - March 18, 2004 11:06 AM (GMT)
But there aren't any other talented AND incredibly adorable drivers around...*pouts*
Alonso I guess is not so bad - but he's very much the Rafy of the F1 world. =/
Kimi's TAG Heuer AD photos:Photo One - ...some serious makup and airbrushing going on here!! LoL
Photo Two - ...don't often see Kimi smiling like this...
Jenni is a lucky gal. What more could a girl possibly want...?
Lalli - March 20, 2004 04:01 AM (GMT)
Lily, Kimi has been doing good at the practice sessions~but Schumi has clocked the fastest time.
Waiting for sunday, hope the race will be exciting.
Lily - March 20, 2004 06:14 AM (GMT)
I hope so too Lalli! (but then again, it really couldn't be more dull than Melbourne...) <_<
Lalli - March 20, 2004 11:08 AM (GMT)
Lilly, Schumi has again got the pole position.
Your fav. Kimi is on 5th and sadly Alonso, is on the last row.

:furious: ...will nothing go Kimi's way this season?!?
Poor Mark Webber though ~ after 2nd place on the grid after quallies... :(
That was honestly not much better than Melbourne... but I guess there was slightly more overtaking during the first third of the race.
roisin - March 21, 2004 01:31 PM (GMT)
alonso did well 2 get 7th didnt he? well pradictable again but u cant fault the man. its not his fault he's so gud!!! v.surprised with button...didnt think he cud do that well but fair play 2 him!
Phillip - March 21, 2004 10:54 PM (GMT)
very close calls between michael and montoya throughout the race but i guess the fererari won in the end! you're right about kimi lily! hopefully he does better at bahrain so he can catch up in the driver's points.
Lalli - March 22, 2004 04:21 AM (GMT)
Just another day at office for Schumacher.Hmm, Schumi won again, but not as easy as it was in Melbourne. JPM was following him closely and the race was exciting compared to the beginner in Melbourne.
Good race for Alonso as well. Started from the last row and finished on 7th.
Sorry for you Lily, Kimi is again out of the race!! But this time it was all the more hurting because he was in 3rd position for most of the race.
Lily - March 23, 2004 12:27 PM (GMT)
*thanks Phillip & Lalli for their comforting words about Kimi*
But yeah, I was also v.impressed by Alonso's effort from the back of the grid! Really makes me wonder what that boy could do in a Ferrari! ;)
And I think Jenson's 3rd place has been a *long* time coming!
Lalli - March 24, 2004 04:30 AM (GMT)
Lily, Ferrari has already hinted that Alonso would be a replacement after Schumi retires and by the way Schumi is going I wonder when he will retire.
Lalli - March 29, 2004 10:17 AM (GMT)
Hmm, wonder what might happen in Bahrain??
Schumi says that he is having fun and he wants to take the chequered flag at Bahrain as well.
For Lily's sake, I hope Kimi gets to the podium. B)

Hrm... you're absolutely right, Phillip... must not lose faith so early on in the season. *looks determined*
