My favorite of the five books is The Goblet of Fire.
Lily Padfoot - August 16, 2003 05:41 AM (GMT)
I Love all the books so far!
My favorite has to be Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban!
I absolutely adore it! Love the new characters that are introduced and all the awesome new spells the characters learn. My favorite character (Sirius) and spell (Expecto Patronum) are so important to the book!
My order of faves (at least at the moment!):
1. PoA
2. GoF
3. OotP
4. SS/PS
5. CoS
Anyways, just my opinion! :)

I like the OotP the best. It just gets better in this book and I thought it was really funny. My second favorite though is PoA- I just love Sirius and Lupin in this book.
Ashley :)

PoA is definitely my favourite. It's such a wonderful book, with a great storyline. GoF comes a close second ... it has such a powerful ending, it still scares me a little even now. My order of favourites is the same as Lily's, overall. *nods*
Parvati Delacour - August 16, 2003 06:15 PM (GMT)
I'm going for CoS. It's always been my favorite. It's just like a huge puzzle to put together. I don't know why though. It's just a huge mystery to solve. You suspect someone new every chapter.
PoA, GoF, and OotP are REALLY close seconds. I really can't chose between all of them!
Kim Jackson - August 16, 2003 06:27 PM (GMT)
I would have to say The Prisoner of Azkaban. It's the book where we are introduced to some of my favorite characters, like Lupin and Sirius. It has a great storyline and was very interesting all the way through!
Twilight Black - August 17, 2003 09:38 AM (GMT)
For me, it's a tie between books 3, 4, & 5. I loved book 3 because it was so unpredictable, and I loved Lupin and Sirius's characters - the way they complemented Harry's. I liked the GoF, because the ending was what we had inevitably been dreading - it opened a lot of space for theorising and arguing and that's always good fun. But it made me laugh heaps and the little sub-plots were great. On the other hand, I like OoTP as well, because it's setting the mood for the last two books - the story isn't as complex, but it is. If that makes sense :)
October Jackson - August 17, 2003 02:35 PM (GMT)
I have to put in a word for Book 1..... I don't know anyone else who has it as their favourite, and it's not necessarily the best of the books, but Philosopher's Stone is the most special to me. (As I've said elsewhere, I heard it first on audio tape when I was in intensive care - one of my nurses brought it in for me because I wasn't well enough to read - and it just transported me to another world :) )
It's a beautifully structured, wonderfully escapist book with all the perfect ingredients - orphan, cruel guardians, sudden escape to a magical world, sneering nemesis, scary villain. There's also the way Harry becomes friends with Ron and Hermione, our first introduction to great characters like Hagrid and Snape, and the great series of challenges at the end where Harry, Ron and Hermione all get to use their skills.....
My next favourite would probably be GoF, because of the character development, the challenges, and the absolutely brilliant last couple of chapters. PoA is also great, but I found it harder to re-read it once I knew the truth about Sirius, cos the misunderstanding of his motives just became frustrating... did anyone else feel this?
~ Toby (off to read Book 1 again!)
Kim Jones - August 18, 2003 06:22 PM (GMT)
My favorite book is also PoA. Prisoner of Azkaban is where the action really starts to pick up. I also believe this is where the humor starts to build up more as well.
Aeryn - August 18, 2003 08:14 PM (GMT)
I just love the Prisoner of Azkaban. Sirius Black is one of my favorite characters and this is the book where he is introduced. I feel the story was extremely, well written and it keeps you glued to the pages until the end.
Jane Lawson - August 19, 2003 03:53 AM (GMT)
I love PoA. I haven't read it in over a year, though, so I should probably go back and reread it, and refresh my memory! I haven't finished Order of the Pheonix yet, I'm trying to "savor" it. Who knows how long it will be until Book Six comes out? Oh well, I'm getting tired of trying to not read it, so as soon as I finish summer reading, it's bakc to OotP.
Danielle Ferguson - August 19, 2003 03:55 AM (GMT)
they keep getting better and i like OOtP.... i cant wait til the 6th book
Ava Williams - August 19, 2003 04:53 AM (GMT)
My favorite is Prisoner of Azkaban. It's where Lupin and Sirius were first introduced and they are some of the coolest characters in the books.
Tambaqui Potter - August 19, 2003 06:47 AM (GMT)
I am currently reading book one again!!!!!!
I am just taking my time, and seeing if there is any hidden messages and stuff...
Beatrix Malfoy Delacour - August 19, 2003 02:09 PM (GMT)
While in theory I could never choose on HP book over another ( :D ), if I had to choose one I would pick GoF. I think that's the book where Harry and the gang finally starts to really grow up, and I can relate to them more since I'm one of the older HP fans. ;)
Jenny Lupin - August 19, 2003 07:04 PM (GMT)
Prisoner of Azkaban, hands down. It's the book where we meet Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, 2 of my favorite characters. I love how the plot has so many twists and turns. It's a brilliantly written book!
Kai Clearwood - August 19, 2003 11:45 PM (GMT)
I put GoF
and then it's PoA, OotP, Cos, PS
Amara Dreamdancer - August 20, 2003 12:58 AM (GMT)
I rather liked Prisoner of Azkaban. It's plot was a bit different than the rest, and it had many "aha!" moments. I liked Order of the Pheonix nearly as well and Goblet of Fire too, but I think Prisoner of Azkaban must be my favorite.
Ophelia Kokafones - August 20, 2003 02:47 AM (GMT)
I picked PoA, though it was close between that and OOtP. I just loved the plot of book 3, and also our darling Snuffles. :P
Saratis Alandia - August 20, 2003 11:08 AM (GMT)
It was a tough decision between OOTP and PoA, and I picked OOTP. Harry's mood and attitude certainly takes a huge turn in that book, but i enjoyed every moment of it (and hated dolores umbridge) because of the sheer wit and the great ending. There were many questions answered in that book, and once again, JK Rowling surpasses everyone's expectations.
PoA was good because of all the twists and turns in the plot, and for once, harry doesn't exactly meet vol--er He Who Must Not Be Named face to face. I enjoyed Lupin's lessons together with the rest of the class, and I must say I liked the idea of the time-turner that had set things right.

| I'm going for CoS. It's always been my favorite. It's just like a huge puzzle to put together. I don't know why though. It's just a huge mystery to solve. You suspect someone new every chapter. |
yay! someone else who likes CoS too!!! it's always been my fav also... yeah! love the puzzling mystery... and the fact that harry could have been slytherin's sucessor!! and i loved the whole able-to-speak-parseltongue thing.. thought it was quite cool.... and i think the book is so nice to re-read as well... I was quite disappointed when the movie came out, but i think it was more because i imagined things a bit differently. ;)
*glances around* somehow, everyone seems to love PoA the most... (not that i dont like it... it's 2nd favourite with book 1).... :P ... but it's true, it IS a hard book the re-read, esp just the bits when they were so silly about sirius. lol. and i was quite angry that wormtail got loose!!! *grrr*
Hermione Pena - August 23, 2003 05:04 AM (GMT)
My favorite is probably GoF. For some reason, I like it a bit more that OotP, which is my second fave. One reason I like GoF is because it starts to really show that Ron and Hermione are gonna get together, and there are many other foreshadowings that you can look into that I've found.
Rachel Sandersen - August 23, 2003 12:58 PM (GMT)
I voted for OotP, but I like PoA very much, too.
My top 5:
1. OotP
2. PoA
3. CoS
4. GoF
5. PS
Rebecca Jones - August 25, 2003 12:23 AM (GMT)
well, I chose GoF..BUt PoA comes in a close second for sure!
Claire Cloven - August 25, 2003 01:55 PM (GMT)
I chose GoF, but my favourite would probably be a tie between GoF and PoA. They are extremely comforting books to read, and to escape to.
Also, there was a period of time when I only owned GoF and PoA, and not CoS or PS (even though those are the first two books), so I read scenes from GoF and PoA almost daily, and am familiar with many of the details in those two books. Anyway, the reason why I bought them in the first place was because I loved them so much (borrowed a friends copy first, before buying my own). *pats her GoF and PoA*
In PoA, there is Remus, Sirius, DADA, CoMC, Hogsmeade, Honeydukes, spending time alone at the Leaky Cauldron , helping Sirius escape and the Shrieking shack scene. Reading those scenes never fail to make me happy. *loves and loves*
Likewise, in GoF, there is the Triwizard Tournament (love all the tasks, especially the first), the Yule Ball (which amuses me to no end) and the climatic scene at the end.
I acknowledge that OotP was very wonderfully written too, but it is probably my least favourite book as it is so dreary, with Harry angry almost throughout the whole book. A lot to be upset about, with little joy to be found. To me, anyway.
Angel - August 27, 2003 12:44 AM (GMT)
OotP was my vote... although PoA was a close runner up. They both had a lot of emotional action not just physical action.
MaeveKylieMalfoy - August 27, 2003 11:22 PM (GMT)
POA all the way. I love Sirius Black.
My order of books,
1. POA
2. SS
3. GOF
4. OOTP
5. COS

My order of favourites goes like this...
1) Order of the Pheonix
2) Goblet of Fire
3) Prisoner of Azkaban
4) Philosopher's Stone
5) Chamber of Secrets
The first three are practically all tied for first place, but well I had to give them an order so there it is. I think OotP was my favourite because it kept both my mind an my emotions running. My mom is reading it outloud to my little brother and everytime I hear her read Umbridge's little "hem hem" I run from the room screaming 'cause I hate her so much. Seriously, I've never hated a person in real life as much as I hate her.
Amber Bach - August 28, 2003 09:25 AM (GMT)
My favourite is the Philosopher's Stone. It's a lovely book, optimistic, full of new things, excitement... I like it because it is a happy book.
Dom McDermott - August 28, 2003 09:42 AM (GMT)
This is actually rather easy for me, I find each book to be better than the last :)
Hence I voted OotP. I love how the characters grow, not just physically of course, but emotionally and intellectually. I also love how each book brings something new, not only in the adventures, but new spell, items, creatures etc.
Dom
Ella Dowling - August 30, 2003 05:00 AM (GMT)
1. PoA
2. OotP
3. SS
4. GoF
5. CoS
I THINK that's my order right now, but it keeps changing...^_^;;
Always,
*~Ella~*

Miranda Black - August 31, 2003 09:29 AM (GMT)
My current favourite is PoA because the storyline is so tight and imaginative, but I have only read Order of the Phoenix once, and that was very fast, so I think I will have to go through that one again before I can give my final judgement.
ciele azure - September 4, 2003 04:51 PM (GMT)
Oh it's a toughie!! I really like OotP b/c so many new people entered the story, while some got a lot more attention (*cough-Ginny-cough*). I liked the fact that we see Harry start to become a man now, he knows his destiny and now it's up to him to accept it. My all time favourite is PoA. Only two words: Remus & Sirius. Then again I'm fond of Lupin *g*.
