Title: Something I Noticed About Luna...
Description: Warning: Slight Spoilers

Well anyone who's read OOTP knows about quirky Luna Lovegood. I was rereading GoF last night and noticed just a little interesting mention of the name Lovegood on page 68 of the UK version (sorry to my fellow Americans, I left my US version at home ;) ). This quote is from when the Weasleys, Diggorys, Harry and Hermione are waiting at the Portkey to be transported to the World Cup:

QUOTE
'Must be nearly time,' said Mr Weasley quickly, pulling out his watch again. 'Do you know whether we're waiting for any more, Amos?'
'No, the Lovegoods have been there for a week already and the Fawcettst couldn't get tickets,' said Mr Diggory. 'There aren't any more of us in this area, are there?'

I just thought that was kind of interesting. While there certainly could be other Lovegood families in the wizarding world, this might very well be Luna Lovegood's family that they're talking about. Kind of interesting that she lives in Ron's neighborhood. Not really a big deal, I just thought it was interesting, noticing something like that. :D

I noticed that too. It is so like JKR to bring up a name far ahead of where the character is actually introduced...

She may live near Ron, but I don't know about the same neighborhood. Didn't the Weasleys have to walk quite a long ways to get to the portkey?

I noticed soooo many things when I reread Goblet Of Fire. There are loads of little things which made me think of Phoenix. I love the way everything gets tied together so nicely.

Yes, Rowling is quite good at doing that :D

Yea i noticed that too J.K always seem to slip that kind of stuff in. Like Dumbledore mentions A lady named by the name of figg at the end of the book 4.And that turned out to ms.figg the squib.

Yeah - it's pretty awesome how it all ties in in the end.

About Figg, yeah that was really cool but I wasn't really surprised. They mentioned a Figg in GoF.. but yeah I thought it was cool.

Very good Analysis with spotting the name Lovegood! That is what fascinates me about Rowlings work, she keeps track of everything she write and is so good at tying it all together in future books!

Rowling did not exactly have to know what she was doing when she wrote the name Lovegood. She could have just been introducing a name, so that when she felt like using it later, it would not be brand new. Does anyone think that she thought of haveing Figgs as a squib when she was writing the first book? That was before she even knew she would be a hit and all!

Also the name Fawcett should be considered. Prof. Snape shouted at two students (a boy and a girl) during the Yule Ball, one of them was Miss Fawcett, she's from Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, I don't he my GoF near me.

Anyway, in another name game... During Harry's first year, a girl named Sally Ann Perks came between Harry and the Patil twins during the Sorting ceremony. I was reading my OotP earlier and during the Charms practical OWLs, Professor Flitwick went:
"Miss Parkinson, Miss Patil, Miss Patil, and Mr Potter..."

Now where did Miss Perks had gone... a fellow Gryffindor told me that she might now take Charms. But she couldn't can't she... it's a permanent part of the curriculum.

JKR is so cruel slipping in hints that we pick up on!! LOL!! I can't wait to see what happens with this Mark Evans bloke. =D

Renee, (and everyone else of course :P )

I am looking forward to finding out about this Evans kid as well! Of course, JK might have just put the name in there to throw us off, and make her readers think that Harry might possibly have more family out there. I, however, doubt this, I think we will be finding out a lot more about Mark Evans. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part! :)

Hello, Lily and Petunia Evans

I noticed in book one that Harry mentions that he feels like Snape could read his mind.

Naomi Tonks - September 2, 2003 03:22 PM (GMT)
ya i noticed that too. I wonder if Ron knows that she lives near by?

I don't have my book with me so I don't know what house Miss Perks was sorted into, but if she's in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw then maybe the Charms exam was only for Gryffindors and Slytherin, and Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw were going to take theirs at a different time.

I noticed the Loovegoods mentioned there, and the Fawcets as well. I have a feeling that she already had Luna set up for the next book when she wrote that, regardless if the Lovegoods mentioned is Luna and her dad, or some relatives. I don't think Rowling would just throw in a name to possible use later, because then she would have to figure out how that new character with that name would fit in with how they were mentioned before.

About Figgs, I'm sure Rowling had her character all planned out as she started. Rowling always knew there would be 7 books, and she had them all planned out ahead of time. I seriously doubt that Rowling later decided, "Hey, why don't I make her a Squib!"

She's got all these records of names, and people, and characters, and all the students.... It goes on and on. I saw on tv this special about her, and she showed briefly this paper she has listing all the students at Hogwarts, and how magical they are, and so on. She keeps track of everyone, and puts a lot of thought into the names.

There was the big Susan Bones thing, Hagrid mentioned that the Bones were killed in Ss, but then there was a Susan Bones at Hogwarts. Some thought that the Bones were her parents, and maybe she'd survived Voldemort too, but it turns out they were her aunt and uncle (or something like that, I'm not sure of the exact relationship).

But that just shows that we can't really jump to comclusions with Rowling. She'll put in what seems to be a hint leading one way, but the truth is something totally differen't.

I didn't notice a Mark Evans, or if I did I forgot. Could someone please say where he's mentioned?

(If I seemed to drift off topic a little at any point in this, sorry. It kinda all ties together, I think... )
