Title: My Sergei
Description: by Eaketerina Gordeeva

Prof. Opal - June 14, 2008 04:00 AM (GMT)
My Sergie, by Ekaterina Gordeeva, is the story of young Russian pairs skaters who went on to win the professional pairs skating championship three times in a row! She was a pre-teen when she began to skate with Sergei Grinkov and he was in mid-adolescence. But he came to love her and she, him. Married, at the top of their profession, and parents to a baby girl, they seemed to "have it all." But this book fills in the rest--the illnesses and injuries, the mis-use by the Russian Skating Federation and professional agents, and then Sergie's sudden and fatal heart attack at the age of 28. But through it all their love was constant and their friends were, too.

I almost didn't read this book because I knew I would be crying at the end (which I was for several hours), but it was worth it to see how Ekaterina comes to terms with all the events that have impacted her life. If you are sensitive to sorrow, then just be forewarned and this is for adolescent to older readers. Prof. Opal
