You have to believe or you will not receive. When we falter we have this Scripture to guide us. Joh 9:38 "And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him." Many times over people contact me and the first sentence is, "I have tried every diet there is and I don't believe that I can lose weight." But they come to hear something different. The Good News that with God all things are possible. Your eyes must be averted off of "me, I, and my," and onto the power of Christ. Your dependence must be on His merit and not your will power. And then, let this sink into your heart as you believe, "And he worshipped him." Perhaps this is where we fall short? Worship will bring you to the throne of God where all requests are granted.
