Turkey Walk - Instant Reward in Weight Loss
The turkey walk lets you experience instantly what it
feels like to lose 15 pounds!
Take a trip this week to a supermarket & get a hand
basket go to the meat section & put a 15-pound
turkey in the basket walk for 5 minutes from aisle to
aisle; carrying the basket go back to the meat
section and put the turkey back.
Now ask yourself, "HOW do I feel? How GREAT to it
when you lose 15 pounds? How does it feel to carry
15 extra pounds for 5 minutes?--or a lifetime?!
What if you routinly carry that amount or more for 24
hours, or one week, or one month, or one year?
Contrast the instant pain of gaining 15 pounds to the
immediate feeling of lightness when you "lost" that
much weight.
What if that is 20 pounds, 30 pounds, or even 50
pounds?
Finally, we can realize the elusive weight
loss "Instant Gratification" in the form of Turkey
Motivation!
Instant gratification can be a powerful driving force
that leads us to immediate rewards but usually end
up delivering lasting results that we don't like--such
as excess pounds!
We eat the foods we love and feel the pleasure
instantly. Then we crave for more food and more
pleasure--and you know what that means; more
pounds to contend with!
More energy, improved self-esteem, sex-appeal,
better physical appearance, improved quality of life
and reduced health risks are awesome rewards for
losing weight and can serve as great motivators for
weight loss.
However, none of them provides immediate rewards
to the weight loss effort. It is known too well, that
immediate gratifications are what we Americans
want, but think of it this way; each time you say NO
thanks to the pumpkin pie; that IS an immeidately
gratifying response!
Instant Gratification vs. Instant Pain in Weight
Control
The human body has an amazing capability of
adapting slow changes. If you gain 15 pounds over 3
months, you may hardly notice any physical
discomfort. By the same token, if you lose 15 pounds
in 3 months, you won't notice much difference either.
For people who are on a weight loss plan, the
hardest part is to stick to it. Because we are so used
to having immediate rewards, not seeing any results
within a short period can seriously weaken our
motivation.
No Frill Weight Loss - Eat Less, Exercise More
About 13 years ago, I was morbidly obese. My
energy level was way down and my blood pressure
was way up. I decided to change--immediately! I
stopped ONE unhealthy action that day, and I
promise you it was immediately gratifying!
So, as you are loading up the cart for holiday dinner,
take a moment and trot with the aisle with a turkey!,
if no one is looking, even try bowling with the
Turkey, but whatever you do, DON'T overeat with
the turkey!
One day I was at a supermarket to buy a turkey for
Thanksgiving. I picked up two 15-pound turkeys, one
in each hand. I wanted to feel what it was like when
I was heavier. With the two 15-pound birds, I could
barely move. I managed to walk around a bit but I
was out of breath within minutes. It was scary to
think that I was lugging that much weight + 100
more pounds ALL the time before I lost my weight.
Next time, I think I will try piggybacking a small
gymnast on my back who weighs 130, I bet I will
drop her and pull out my back!
Stick to turkeys? maybe so!
Happy Thanksgiving and remember, don't be a turkey-
-no overeating, no seconds and a big NO to Aunt
Millie and her pies!!!!
