Hi, I'm Wendy
I won't go into too many details, but the big downfall in my weight life was when, at 16 years old and 190 pounds(my peak weight at that time) my doctor gave me phen fen. I got down to 158 and a size 13 juniors and I think stayed there for about an hour (long enough for a smashing prom dress). A succession of gaining and loosing followed so at 22, 6 years later, in March of 2003 I weighed 286 (a fraction under 5'6) I gave up sodas at that point and lossed 26 pounds, and went on south beach that summer so I got down to 249. Suffice to say me and southbeach only lasted a few months due to cost and the fact that I have a hard time eating a lot of rabbit food. I like a good salad now and then but every day for lunch was getting really unappetizing, and since I couldn't afford to eat lunches like my dinners (good lowfat meats) anyway...I woke up the other day and weighed myself and it said 278. I have decided that one reason past diets have not worked is that I kept thinking I need to loose 150 pounds, and just couldn't see the end. So I have a new goal. I want to be 250 by January 1st. I think that is a sensible goal and I tend to loose the first few pounds fast. I have decided at least initially to go on slim-fast. I think food and I need a short break from each other, (you still eat dinner and healthy snacks). I am just tired of food and I want a chance to reintroduce myself to eating normally one step at a time. I plan to do a weigh in on Sunday to make sure my beginning number is accurate and I am going to start officially then. My weight makes any kind of excersise difficult, but with some difficulty I can walk for 20 minutes at a light pace so I am going to try that for a while, and maybe try a swimming class at the local community college when the spring semester starts. Has anyone had much success with slim-fast? What kinds of excersise does everyone do that is challenging but you don't feel like you're dying?
Thanks,
Wendy
I am glad to see you stepping up and joining in with us! That is the best idea to break it down into attainable mini-goals. We will be cheering you on! I haven't tried slim fast. I love chewing too much, but I know you can do it. I favor walking for beginners. And pool aerobics would also be wonderful. Keep us updated starting this Sunday!
:hi: Hello, Wendy, and :welcome: to The Century Club. I am so glad you are here.
I am in the process of losing 131 pounds, and have lost 38 so far. It has been a difficult journey and has taken me almost 3 years, but I am pressing on with God's help.
For exercise, my family and I joined the pool club at our local Marriot hotel this past January. They have a fully equipped exercise room and a large heated indoor swimming pool and a wonderful large whirlpool tub. I usually spend the first 15 minutes using the weight machines in the exercise room, then spend at least 30 minutes in the water doing various moves and stretches that I call 'pool aerobics'. I've also tried moderate walking, and some low-impact aerobcs tapes like Richard Simmons' "Sweatin' To The Oldies". Find something you enjoy that you can do consistently.
I tried Slim Fast a few times, but always felt a need to eat. It was better if I had some pretzles with the shake, but still got very hungry very quickly. Now I am following the Weight Watchers program and counting my daily points. I have not gone to a class for several years, but do keep track of my points and try to stay in my daily point range.
As far as fasting, a short-term fast may be OK for you as long as you talk to your doctor first. I know Dear Editor has suggested a 60-day on-line course many of us here have taken called The Lord's Table at SettingCaptivesFree.com. This is a bible study and suggested menu plan that included a few days of fasting per week.
Please come to the Grace Today Dieters board and this forum often and share with us. I wil pray for you, Wendy, that you find the path God has for your complete healing.

Hi Wendy, I'm glad you're here and look forward to having you as part of the :fellow: here.
I am a fellow Century-clubber as well. My highest weight was 286.5 and I've so far lost a little more than 50 lbs. One thing I can't say enough of is that as long as I give God the control and let Him lead me, that's when I'm victorious. I am also an advocate of the Lord's Table program that Dave mentioned. I don't follow the food plan but the Bible studies are awesome and eye-opening and have taught me a lot about the place food has and should have in my life.
For exercise, I've been sticking mostly with walking and treadmill for now.
Hope to see you around more, it's great to meet you.
