Death in the Pot
So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof. 2 Kings 4:40
Some of Elisha's servants had gathered herbs to make a pottage for Elisha and the people with him, but apparently someone had gathered poisonous herbs and someone perceived it in time and cried out a warning, "....there's death in the pot." How often has God called out to us that there was death in the pot, on the plate, in the refrigerator, at the bakery the fast-food restaurant, etc? How many times have we listened to Him or even heard Him? Even when a doctor tells a glutton that he's eating himself to death, he doesn't listen.
God is sending out a loud cry to His people today, warning them, "There's death in the pot." We are putting garbage by the pound into our bodies each day that was never meant to be there and is harmful. God wants us to turn away from those harmful foods and back to His good food from the earth that He has provided. He also wants us to regulate the quantity of food as well as the quality. Too much of a good things is still bad. Next time you eat something, wait upon the Lord and ask, "Lord, is there death in the pot? Is this good for me or harmful?"
Lord, forgive me for all the times I've failed to hear your warnings about the foods I was eating. Even when they made me violently ill, I wouldn't turn them loose. Only you can set me free. Teach me to grow closer to you and to heed your warnings about food and anything else that isn't good for me.
