Here's a recipe for Tortilla Soup that I came up with a couple years ago. We never make it quite the same and I never use a recipe, so I thought I would set this forth as the "suggestion". My Precious came up with the idea to add the beans and it really does add to the soup. Depending on how thin or thick you want the soup you may change the amount of water.

½ pound hamburger (chicken works great too)
1 packet Taco Seasoning
1 cup salsa
½ cube of Chicken Bullion
Cheddar Cheese
Monterey Jack Cheese
Tortilla chips
½ cup frozen corn
1 small can pre-cooked black beans (Pinto beans or red beans are good too.)

In a skillet brown the hamburger and stir in the taco seasoning. Drain meat and set aside.

In a soup pan start with 2 and half cups water and bring to a boil. Add chicken bullion, hamburger, 1 cup of salsa (preferably Rojo Salsa, which is a mixture of finely chopped veggies and contains no tomato sauce), frozen corn, and black beans. Let the soup simmer for at least half an hour.

Grate ¼ cup cheddar cheese and ¼ cup Monterey jack cheese and mix together.

When the soup is finished, place a handful of regular tortilla chips in the bottom of each bowl. Pour the hot soup over the chips until they are completely covered. Then add the grated cheese on top of the soup. (The cheese should melt.)

ENJOY!

Really sounds good. Dick loves cheese and beans and this sounds like something he could happily slurp.
