(Franklinville, NY, June 4, 2007) - - Here's a winning lesson of losses from Franklinville. News 4's Alysha Palumbo reports a student has dropped nearly a third of his weight by gaining a whole new lifestyle.
Justin Richards is a junior at Franklinville Central Schools.
His biggest accomplishment this year wasn't achieved in the classroom, but in the gym, where he shed more than one hundred pounds!
Richards said, "I'm very proud of myself. People around me make me proud of myself, too."
So how did he go from 314 pounds to the much leaner, healthier 210 pounds that he is now?
His gym teacher and weight loss coach, Allan Dunlap, says it's a lifestyle change.
Dunlap said, "I think the people who roller coaster are the ones that slip that stop doing it for a matter of time."
He also eats to lose, which means consuming much healthier food, but he eats six meals a day.
Dunlap says that helps his body to constantly burn calories.
Dunlap said, "It's unrealistic to think that he's never going to have an ice cream again, or he's not going to have a piece of pizza now and again."
The key to Justin's success is moderation and motivation.
Kristin Smith, Justin's teacher, said, "I'm not surprised. I've had Justin since the beginning of the year, and Justin is definitely a hard worker in everything that he does."
Smith says he's an inspiration to everyone around him.
Smith said, "When he tells me that it's all about diet and exercise and watching what you eat, and then I try to do that in my own life."
Richards said, "They help me to do this, too. They make me happy with myself, too, because if you're not happy, you're not going to want to do it."
