DallasGM - January 26, 2008 12:25 PM (GMT)
Is this the worst draft since...?
ThrashersGM - January 26, 2008 12:37 PM (GMT)
DetroitGM - January 26, 2008 03:05 PM (GMT)
I don't think that this draft is much worse than last year's.
I believe that we don't have a lot of top notch talent as we had last year, but I think this one is much deeper than last year's draft.
predatorsgm - January 26, 2008 04:29 PM (GMT)
I dont like this draft at all.
DallasGM - January 26, 2008 07:54 PM (GMT)
Flavio, agree with me man... thsi draft is SO weak
I agree with Boca, this is the worst since 2013, but since 2012 I don't see great players.

Yes, I agree that this is a weak draft, but I see maybe 30-35 good players. It doesn't have the outstanding talent of other drafts at the top, but it does have a lot of depth players.
About the 'great players', we had a few in the last couple drafts. Sciardi, Synek and Bentley fill that category IMO(I also like Jensen and Beukeboom a lot), although nothing compared to the 2012 class.

Yeah, we got great players here... but I really like Champagne. He is a great player.
And let's see this draft...
predatorsgm - January 27, 2008 07:00 PM (GMT)
FLAGM - January 27, 2008 07:09 PM (GMT)
I can see how he'd be somewhat suprising. I was considering 3 people. Among the 3 he was a significantly better skater, and while his D isnt higher than the other 2 his offense and overall game were both higher. He will also be a very good faceoff man, and develop into a world class leader. The 85 con didnt hurt either.
ghlcommissioner - January 27, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
its certainly not a star draft but that should help make things a bit more stable in the league. With star players now starting to command higher salaries and few teams will have to look at spreading the wealth and taking on the depth players to stay under budget
BluesGM - January 27, 2008 09:39 PM (GMT)
I like Mikes pick of Filip Moravec. I was contemplating trying to make a move for a good pick in hopes of netting him. He would have been my 2nd choice behind Andrej Kliugin
NYI GM - January 27, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
I don't know if he is the highest Pot 7 player ever taken, however with those ceilings he is going to be a great player. I had a strong feeling that neither he nor the other guy I was looking at would have lasted until #6, so I had to make the move.

WOW dude lol thats the exact samething as me.
predatorsgm - January 27, 2008 10:08 PM (GMT)
Moravec was first on my list.
FLAGM - January 27, 2008 11:08 PM (GMT)
I liked Moravec also. He and Happajarvi were 1 and 2 for me. I had to go with the offensive speedster though.
SanJoseGM - January 27, 2008 11:49 PM (GMT)
Joachimsthaler will no doubt have made me pull out my hair with his consistency, and Moravec was off the board, so hopefully Linkomies will develop into a nice two-way forward.
DallasGM - January 28, 2008 12:06 AM (GMT)
Oh my, incredible... for me Kalle Linkomies was the number 2...
DetroitGM - January 28, 2008 12:34 AM (GMT)
I had Linkomies as my number one. Quite a steal for SJ IMO.
I just didn't like CBS pick. Lewis wouldn't be my pick at that spot. I believe there were better players available.
Weird draft in Motown, as we don't have any 1st or 2nd round pick. In the last few drafts we always used to have multiple early picks... good sign, I guess!

Werent you afraid of his injury value?
predatorsgm - January 28, 2008 04:21 AM (GMT)
yeah I completely overlooked that part of it as well.

Such a minimal risk. Some players go their whole career without an injury.
If he has 1 or 2, I can accept that.

Agreed, however, sometimes more frequent.
Nevertheless, good pick.

I don't really look at the injury numbers. Although I had two major injuries this year, the injury bug had never hit me before those.
ThrashersGM - January 29, 2008 02:50 PM (GMT)
I had Moravec at number 1 and Limkomies at 2 and they went 3 and 5. There may be something wrong with my draftee avaliation.
predatorsgm - January 29, 2008 04:15 PM (GMT)
Surprisingly I had to take another high pot, low con goalie there just wassnt anything else there that had much value to me. The offensive guy that is left just scares me more then a goalie becuase of his piss derriere poor defense.
DallasGM - January 29, 2008 04:17 PM (GMT)
I was looking for a forward but Titus is the best d-man of this draft IMO. Now, Friesen, Titus, Kartsev, Pecha and Koistinen start the new defence generation in Dallas.
predatorsgm - January 29, 2008 04:29 PM (GMT)
I was hoping to get him at 13.

with the premium on con kliugin seems like a real nice pick. The rest of the guys left now would pretty much all scare me
ThrashersGM - January 29, 2008 07:00 PM (GMT)
I am still very interested in 3 guys, hope they last until my pick.

I'm agree too that Morin is the 2nd d-man in this draft, and I know that wait until 14th OA was a risk to loose him. Then I decided try to get a jump after see that Sam did not pick him. I sended a great con booster, but was great.

You love your hitters Luiz, and Linkomies loves to hit!! He would be at home in Dallas.. :boxing:
BluesGM - January 30, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
I think the Rangers got what should turn out to be a very solid player in Wyatt Curry. He was actually who I planned on taking if I could have picked up a high enough pick (would have actually taking him 9th if I got the pick from Sam).

I was expecting he could fall to the 21st pick... :(
