Very proud of Henriksen. Great to see one of my guys there in something other than top rookie!

One thing, though...for my money, Jesse Houde was the best or 2nd best all-around forward - check out his average rating, it's tops in the league for the regular season. The guy led the league in goals and was nasty in his own zone. I'm amazed his name didn't come up in the top 3 of any of the categories.

Padraig, Jesse was robbed, but he's still very young and will have many more opportunities to grab some GHL hardware.

Thank you, again, to Jeff.

Oh, and one other thing...

Glad to see Bonk take the award he deserved. A little shocked that Gleason didn't get the offesnive D-Man award since he was 1 goal shy of the league record for goals by a defenseman :) heh

Oh well, he's got MANY years left to take that award.

Congrats to everyone who's guys won and good luck next season everyone!

Pat

Oh and just for Ranger boy.... :afro:

FlyersGM - October 7, 2004 05:19 PM (GMT)
Sigh, once again the Preds get no respect...I must have a bunch of Rodny Dangerfields on my team.

Oh yeah almost forgot... :afro:

I'll agree that Houde probably should have gotten a little more recognition, however I am sometimes confused on how a player's rating is calculated. And given that, I don't put too much stock in the rating system.

for example, look at this partial report from a recent game:

C Patrik Stefan 0 0 3 1 2 1 0 0 17.10 7
R Ilya Kovalchuk 0 0 1 2 2 2 0 2 17.30 7
R Todd Bertuzzi 0 0 6 2 1 1 0 0 17.10 7
R Trevor Letowski 0 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 8.30 6
C Curtis Brown 0 0 3 5 1 5 2 0 16.50 8
C Henrik Sedin 1 1 2 2 0 2 0 2 17.30 7

Henrik Sedin gets a goal and an assist, 2 takeaways and no giveaways and gets a 7? while Curtis Brown gets an 8? Brown's performance was solid, but better than Sedin's? I think not. plus I'd say Sedin had a far better game than Kovy, yet both rated a 7... hmm...

Anyone know how the rating is arrived at?

CanuckGM - October 7, 2004 06:06 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah, good job Jeff. thanks for the effort.

ghlcommissioner - October 7, 2004 06:11 PM (GMT)
Great Job Jeff - Thanks for doing that.....

BuffaloGM - October 7, 2004 06:19 PM (GMT)
I've always found with the ratings that the players con seems to effect it. I found that a player with lower con (ie 60) can play a better game then a player with high con (ie 85) yet the player with higher con will get a better rating 9 times out of 10. That is why I don't put a lot of stock in the player ratings.

Andrew Ference will win that best offensive defenceman award next year.

Past two seasons:

2005-06 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 82 9 40 49 54 -13
2006-07 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 82 14 43 57 54 -12

It's no fluke.

Gleason will accept that challenge and crush Ference into oblivion with his offensive mastery.

;)

ArtVandelay - October 7, 2004 07:26 PM (GMT)
I think the game rating depends most on the defensive stats: Hits and Takeaways. Looking at the stats posted here, it looks like Curtis Brown had 5 Hits and 5 Takeaways which would give him a very high rating. Also, generally speaking, the top average ratings in the league are usually defensemen and if you look at the tops in hits and takeaways, it's also usually defensemen - I don't think it's a coincidence.

Anyway, that's why I thought Houde's season was so impressive - league leader in goals and a good enough defensive forward to lead the league in average rating.

:afro:

OttawaGM - October 7, 2004 07:45 PM (GMT)
My take on the rating is it's a mix of shots (huge impact) and Hits/Takeaways. Goals and assists I dont find play a huge part in it.

Ference wont win the award as long as he continues to be a defensive liability. While he does get a a good amount of points the fact that he is a negative I believe is the reason he has been excluded.

I know that +/- is not the best of stats but it still does tell you whether a player is on the ice for more goals against your team then those for.

If he can get on the plus side of that equation then he will garner more votes come award time.

John Boychuk and Darrell Campbell feel somewhat miffed that Patrick Westover could somehow beat them out for Rookie of the year votes. People do realise just because he plays on a much better team and thus puts up more points does not make him a better Defender?

(Same goes for Julius Sleyzak who I also gave a vote to and believe was another better rookie!)

:idontknow:

neddy36 - October 8, 2004 12:00 AM (GMT)
Here comes my :2cents:

I think Lubor Tiptmann was a bit unlucky to not finish in the Top 3 for Rookie of the Year. I think a lot of GM's forgot about him as he doesn't feature in the Rookie Standings. I nearly did!!!

For a Rookie Goalie to backstop his young team to the brink of a playoff appearance was outstanding, not to mention his statistical development throughout the season. I am sure Dave is very proud of his accomplishments and development in 2006/07.

Thanks also to Jeff for compiling the award nominations and calculating the winners, especially in the middle of a playoff run.

Congratulations to all winners and watch out for Steve Eminger next year for All-Round D-Man:

2006/07 - 12 25 37 +29 115 (13 of 17 fights won)

ArtVandelay - October 8, 2004 12:41 AM (GMT)
Jim: Definitely agree that Sleyzak was awesome this season as freshman. Campbell too - actually, there were a few pretty good rookie defensemen.

Brett: Actually, I thought Tiptmann could've been better, but since he was just a rookie, yes, I was very pleased to have come as close to the playoffs as we did. I'm actually just glad to see people other than me touting my players! :afro:

Oh, and this one's pretty neat too:
:steering:
That's me from 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM and from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM - except I'm usually not smiling. Actually, I'm probably more like this guy:
:firemad:

DallasGM - October 8, 2004 12:45 AM (GMT)
Just to set the record straight, I pencilled in Tiptmann for rookie of the year just behind Nordin and Soderholm. ;)

BuffaloGM - October 8, 2004 12:50 AM (GMT)
I would say Westover deserves some recognition. Sure he played on a good team, but he was never out of place playing on my top line and improved greatly throughout the season.

jimbowan - October 8, 2004 02:45 AM (GMT)
Jeff, thanks heaps for doing this its another thing which makes the league great :)

You will have to find me first you gron, I will be doing something like this:

:sniper:

I will be sure to give all GM's the low-down on what happens to GM Robinson during his Buck's Party (Bachelor Party) tomorrow (e.g. how may times he was drilled with paint or the amount of beers it took for him to spew [vomit]).

Just want to say thanks to the guys for doing this, I really like the whole awards voting system, adds some more fun to the league.

As for the awards, I too had Tiptmann rated high, bring a first year guy in to play in the NHL and having him play with even half-respectable numbers is great!

As for my team, I'm glad to see the Jagr won two awards in his last season! Selfish bastard retiring at the age of 34! This shouldn't be! :crying:

Anyway, congrats to all the GM that had players winning awards and I'm sure that if I get my way next year that Oldrich Kusjner may put up a healthy challenge for offensive d-man of the year....ummm...i mean....kill all y'all! haha!

:idontknow:

BluesGM - October 8, 2004 08:32 AM (GMT)
I really do understand the complaints of other GM's about their top-rookie not beeing mentioned, cause here is my complaint :P

what in the world happend with Alex Seymour and Oleg Tschetter in this voting?!?!
both are in the top3 in points by rookies (3/1), both are runners up for the calder and yet they don't appear in the top3 in the GM voting and I am wondering why.
Okay, they are not in the top20 in rating, but is this the reason why?

ArtVandelay - October 8, 2004 11:14 AM (GMT)
I went Soderholm, Westover, Nordin. I just felt that this was the defensemen's year and that, as forwards go, Nordin performed better in a limited # of games than Tschetter and Seymour.

I think it would be funny if Tschetter has a bad season only because we could have headlines using the word "Tschitty".

DetroitGM - October 8, 2004 08:46 PM (GMT)
Kyle McLaren officially rules. Any GMs wanting to part him from Detroit can do so..... when Chicago win the Stanley Cup.

All other d-man can lie down and look at his greatness... :P

Well done to all other winners, and Bure was robbed from an offensive forward spot, robbed!!
