These are usually hidden but on the left side of his face three perpendicular claw marks run from his cheek to the jaw bone, all where self inflicted in his transformed shape.
The clothing he wears is of his homelands style, thick black pants and a shirt that is similarly thick and a sort of yellowish white color. Usually he wears a leather Jerkin, a sort of vest covered in rows of metal studs. To hide his disfigured face, he wears a cloak made from the hide of a bear with the head of the animal as his hood.
Personality: Roneth is a friendly person, if a bit grim, though that is only because his people are a grim race. They are raised to believe that only through a glorious death in battle can they be excepted into Valhalla (heaven), so death dose not scare them, as long as they die fighting.
Origin: ((This is in two parts, the first is how he came to be, and the second is what has happened sense he arrived in Japan.))
Past:
Roneth was born in northern Saxony during the decline of the Roman Empire. However, Roneth is of Nordic decent, a people more commonly referred to as the North Men. The Norse where a race of warriors, whose entire lives revolved around a code of martial honor. To die in battle was the noblest of these honors, and came with a chance at being carried away to a place known as Valhalla; a kingdom in the heavens where the dead heroes joined the gods in eternal paradise. Lucky for the Norse, death came easy in the Northlands. Hard winters, untamed wilderness, and the never-ending wars made the place a living hell for many, and some, like Roneth’s ancestors, choose to leave.
Several of the smaller clans came together to build many large boats that would carry them across the icy waters to the south, Roneth’s family where among these. It was a harsh trip for many, but the Norse where a sea faring people, and the venture proved successful. Once the clans landed on the shores of main land Europe, they began searching for a place to settle, and after several weeks of cutting their way inland away from the ocean they found nestled among the lolling hills their utopia.
Tucked into a bowl like land form made up of several tightly grouped pine covered hills, was a peaceful valley with every thing they could possibly need. Large open pastures, a wide stream that flowed from an underground tunnel beneath the hills, and good fresh soil for growing crops. Soon, the Nordic refuges carved a life out for themselves in these lands. Their herds where well fed, their crops bountiful, and sense there where no wars to tear down their homes, they build large cottages of wood and stone. Of course, the traditions of the Norse where kept, but some began to believe that even Valhalla couldn’t produce a happier life then the one they had made for them selves, but this peace would not last forever.
In the year 451, when Roneth was 17, a group of people known as the Ostrogoths where driven out of their homes in the Danube valley by a race of barbarians called the Huns, and where forced northward. One band of these Goths stumbled on Roneth’s village. Though the Ostrogoths had been driven out of their own homes by vicious barbarians, many of the Ostrogoths where no better themselves. This particular horde was all mounted and rode down swiftly on Roneth’s home, killing every man and child in the village. Using the village’s stores of food, they held a feast in honor of their victory. The women that had been taken where of great amusement to the Goths who had not had the pleasure of a woman for a long time, but when their useful ness ended, the women where quickly executed and left where they had fallen.
Roneth had been hunting during the massacre and did not return until late that night. When he did return home, he discovered it in ashes. All the men of the village where piled to the side, food for the cairn, and the women where laying face down in the snow, raped and slaughtered. Grabbing his father’s spear he began his long feverish pursuit of the Ostrogoths that would last for 3 long days. Eventually, his mortal body couldn’t take the abuse any more and failed him. Collapsing, Roneth passed out of consciousness and fell into swirling, black, chaotic dreams
In the midst of this madness, a vision came in the form of a woman more beautiful then anything he’d ever seen before. Her hair was blacker then night, and her smile more concealing then the dress she wore that went form her neck to the ground, swirling around her feet.
She offered him a chance to have his revenge. Without thinking he agreed, saying that he would do anything she asked. She told him that when he woke, a wolf would come to him, and offer it’s self up as a sacrifice. He was to rip out it’s heart and eat it, and then cover his body in the blood of the beast. Her last words echoed in his mind until he woke up, and there was indeed a wolf standing there, and Roneth did all that she had said. That was the first night he became the beast. Thick, black fur erupted from his body, his limbs became large and twisted, his fingers molded into clawed paws, and his face became longer and filled with long rows of sharpened teeth. By the time his bones and set in their new shape, he was a creature that looked like some sort of demonic dog or wolf with fur blacker then the moonless night and eyes burning red.
Now, it was only to easy for him to take his revenge on the Ostrogoths by slaughtering them all in a brutal blood frenzy. By the time morning came and he discovered the hundreds of slaughtered bodies. The woman from his dreams walked out of the wreckage and told him that she had given him the body and spirit of her pet, Garm. At this point he knew what had happened to him. Garm was the dog who guarded the gates of the underworld, the pet of Hel, the woman who stood before him now. Hel was the keeper of the underworld, she was a creature with the upper body of a beautiful woman, but the lower body of a skeletal corpse which was hidden by her long dress.
Hel also told him that a part of Garm remained within him, and would feed his own soul with the bestial power necessary to change every new moon when the sky was at it’s darkest, or if Roneth where to become overwhelmed by fear, hatred, lust, or any of the primal emotions associated with Garm.
Ever sense that day, Roneth has wandered the earth, keeping to the outskirts of society so to avoid the inevitable massacre that comes every new moon. For more then a thousand years Roneth has sought out either death or a cure, and his search has lead him across Europe, Asia, and finally to the shores of Japan…
Japan: After he came to Japan, Roneth was lucky enough to stumble upon a girl, a demon part cat and part bird. She traveled with him which he was grateful for in this strange land. Over their adventures, secrets where revealed and at one point Roneth, in his transformed state, made an attempt on her life. He was sure she would abandon him after that, but she stayed, and promised to help him find his cure.
Sense that point all the doubts Roneth had harbored about her disappeared, and he began to love her. Then, a demon named Naraku came, taking Catbird away and leaving Roneth behind, struggling to bring his fury in check, less he transform again. Ever sense that day, Roneth’s personal quest has been abandoned in his search for her.
Sample RPG: (originally the sample alone was 7 pages long, but I decided to save it for later and do this short one out of mercy.)
Catbird and Roneth where walking through the forest, and had been for the past three days, but still the trees gave no sign of abating. Every sound seemed to set Roneth off, it had only been a few days ago that he’d Catbird how he felt about her, and now he was even more fanatical about keeping her safe, though really she would have been perfectly fine with out him; in fact, she probably would have been better off.
Swiveling his head to the tree tops, Roneth gripped his spear asking suddenly, “Hey, d you hear that?”
Touching the tip of his spear lightly she nodded, “Don’t worry, it’s only bugs. You need to relax, you’ve been on edge all day long. “ Placing a hand on his cheek, she tilted her head up to give him a soft kiss that seemed to melt the wound up muscles in his shoulders. Roneth had just started to get into it when Catbird pulled back, looking as alarmed as he had been, “I smell a demon…”
Long black vines erupted from the undergrowth, catching Catbird by the waste, dragging her away from Roneth’s grasp. He’d just pulled back his spear to fight the strange assault when a swarm of bugs descended upon him. While he fought off the hundreds of buzzing insects, more and more of the black vines wrapped around Catbird restricting her every movement. Forgetting the bugs, Roneth made for the vines hacking away at them with his spear but to no avail.
A sickly, gentle voice drifted from the forest, “You are waiting your efforts. You can not free the girl.” A demon wrapped in the hide of a baboon emerged, the vines flowing from the underside of his cloak.
Snarling Roneth charged the demon, only to fall on his knees after a few steps. Fur had begun to spring out of his arms; he could feel his bones moving and his teeth sharpening. His anger, it was triggering the change. Dropping the spear he clutched his side trying to regain his composure and fight off the urges. If he changed now, he wouldn’t just kill this new demon, but he’d probably kill Catbird too.
“Fascinating,” the demon watched Roneth struggle to keep himself in check. No longer amused by the spectacle, he turned away from Roneth, saying, “I would finish you off, but I have other things to do, as for the girl, she is not for you anymore. Do not seek her out, and do not bother yourself with trying to find me. You are lucky to leave with your life, be grateful.” In a hazy blur, the demon disappeared, and Catbird along with him.
