Title: ...
BustaMo - March 30, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
You've got to be freakin' kidding me...

Temporary banned until I get to the bottom of this or get the chance to talk to Relient A. If anyone else talks to him at all outside of the forums on MSN or AIM, find out what the heck he's thinking. We didn't make any agreement about this as staff...
Not cool. We can not get those topics back if I'm correct...
Stephen Griffiths - March 30, 2008 01:50 AM (GMT)
oh well. it needed to be done i guess time to start fresh :D
TheMissingCloud - March 30, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
Bit harsh dont you think? Completely banning the guy for going through with a plan everyone was up for in for the first place.
BustaMo - March 30, 2008 02:13 AM (GMT)
I hardly think EVERYONE was up for it...
I mean sure it's annoying to have to see topics that haven't been posted in in a while, but to just go and jump the gun like that and delete them, seriously. We could have done it one at a time, but the fact that we can't get ANY of them back at all is kind of annoying.
I IP banned him too, until I hear from him what the hell he was thinking. Did he talk to you about this TMC outside of the forums or in PM's??
TheMissingCloud - March 30, 2008 02:20 AM (GMT)
Holy shit you IP banned him to!? Jesus christ, talk about not F'ing around.
Ok so "EVERYONE" might not have been up for it, but most of the active members replied to the topic saying they liked the idea. I know about half of them wanted to save some stuff and all I really cared about was the fanfic section, but ah well life goes on. We can make new memories. Take a look at SG's intro topic, he's not taking the restart to heart.
And no I haven't heard from RA lately, but I've got his MSN and AIM so if I hear from him I'll let you know since I'm no doubt going to be the messenger between you two for a while.
Stephen Griffiths - March 30, 2008 02:32 AM (GMT)
Whats done is done, just leave it be i say.
FFVIICloudS - March 30, 2008 02:50 AM (GMT)
so it did happen... 0.o
well its happened lets just see if it gets a bit more active, lets just hope it does
the pic you posted Busta, does that mean he could have deleted every post in any thread he wanted or it all had to be done at once
TheMissingCloud - March 30, 2008 03:13 AM (GMT)
Mods can delete a single post an entire topic or since me and Relient are global mods we have the ability to mass delete topics wiping forum sections at a time.
FFVIICloudS - March 30, 2008 04:05 AM (GMT)
ok, just curious then... why didnt he keep some of the off-topic threads
Lionheart - March 30, 2008 08:35 AM (GMT)
Wow...Didn't see that coming. I mean, most of us were up for the idea, but we still hadn't agreed on anything. That's not how it's supposed to work, if you ask me.
vivi - March 30, 2008 05:08 PM (GMT)
I never posted in that topic (I think)... I saw it, but I thought it was going to be something that was going to take some time to work out...
BustaMo - March 30, 2008 08:08 PM (GMT)
Yeah, aht's what I thought too, and I was going to talk out with RA and TMC and teh gang, but RA acted way too quick, and TMC is brushing it off as if it's no big deal...
TheMissingCloud - March 30, 2008 08:45 PM (GMT)
Understandable, but going straight to an IP ban is still bit harsh. If you had just put him "in time out" with a suspension or something you might be able to get ahold of him easier...It's kinda hard to PM when you can't use your account.
And in RA's defence I'm pretty sure Ross posted in that topic saying something along the lines of "not a bad idea" and that was it, he never gave any terms of saving anything. Besides Ross was the last person I thought would be up for this. As the site creator maybe I should take this little problem up with him as well.

Received a rather weird e-mail thismorning, my inquisitiveness got the better of me. Sorry to see peoples posts that were un-intended to be deleted gone, they may be redeemable though. Go through the admin cp into the invisionfree admin help forum. Place a post there as a topic and if you're lucky a mod can restore the topics. It's happened before, wether or not they can do it this time is down to the circumstances but it may be possible.
Vespertine - March 31, 2008 08:56 AM (GMT)
Wow... I also wasn't expecting that... I'm kinda annoyed there were some really good active topics in there that have now been deleted like the main villain in FFX topic... He could have at least of kept the active ones instead of deleting EVERYTHING. I wouldn't have been annoyed if he had at least of left the active topics. Maybe this will be good for the forums though....

It sucks, but I can't say I'm surprised. There seems to have always been conflicting views of how to run this site among the staff, and some staff members seem to like taking things into their own hands rather than come to any sort of agreement or compromise.
Perhaps this episode can teach a lesson. This is a community. No one person here has the wisdom to know what is best all the time. Discussion and compromise are essential in a community. There's one thing all the staff seem to agree on, and that's that they want this site to survive and flourish. Communicating, seriously considering ideas that don't fit in with one's own and being willing to compromise when no consensus can be reached are the only ways that this site can stay together. If the staff are divided, the site will die. If there's even one dissenting opinion, taking a bit of time to hear the person out and seriously consider his/her viewpoint can make a world of difference. Sometimes you may even find that the initial opinion of the majority isn't the best option. Even when initial reactions stick, at least the person/people who disagree will feel that they have had a chance to make their case.
Personally, banning Reliant A for his actions seems appropriate to me. At least temporarily. He purposely took (probably) irrevocable action that seriously effects the site, its staff and members without the permission or agreement of all of the staff and knowing that one of the admins was completely against the action. Some are saying banning him was harsh, but it's far less harsh than what he did to the site. At least someone can be unbanned.
Still, Reliant A has been an integral part of this community for quite some time. While his action was rash and not done in any sort of spirit of community or responsibility, I doubt it was meant to be harmful to the site. He had a strong opinion of what was best and acted on it. While it shows he has passion for the site, he abused his moderator powers, and there certainly should be consequences for that. He also didn't take into account the fact that he deleted active topics, and that may come to harm this site.
Perhaps a compromise is in order already. One such compromise could be to unban him but remove his moderator status. If it's possible to restore the lost posts, I'd seriously recommend it until all of the staff can agree on a course of action.

Thanks for the tip K_D, I'll try that out, and I guess I'll un-IP ban RA, but his main account stays banned until I get a chance to catch him on AIM.
Durus - March 31, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
All I can say is wow...
I come on to check the forums and I'm like wheres all the topics gone to, at first I thought it was a April fools joke for tomorrow...
I wasn't necessarily against the idea of wiping the forum clean, but I do think RA should of consulted others before doing what he did, but I give him the benefit of the doubt.

20 bucks says they came up with this prank during a rousing game of Halo 3. Either way does anyone else care less that all these terrible topics got deleted?
Restless Soul - March 31, 2008 11:50 PM (GMT)
A day too early for april fools.
Edit: I haven't been here for a few weeks and was looking forward to catching up, I'll wish you all a clear goodbye now that there really is nothing.

Wow so this is what happened. Oh well I guess the forums start from scratch again.
