Title: How many of you knew..

ViciousGamer04 - February 21, 2008 05:01 PM (GMT)
How many of you knew that Square came very close to bankruptcy when they were first beginning? Just wondering. :P

I think most if not all of the members here know that. And most Final Fantasy fans should also know that. Hence the reason it was called Final Fantasy as it was Square's last ditch attempt stay afloat. Needless to say it worked and I hope something would cause them to go back to that point so they'd stop with this whole spin off sequel/prequel fad.

How many fans know that Aeris wasn't originally planned to die though in FFVII?

By the way random fact: I found a fan website out there entirely devoted to Aeris's death, with screen shots of the FMV. I know Reliant has already got that site on his favorites =P

*this is everyone's cue to turn this topic into a random facts/did you know about FF*

I was very much aware of that... and I probably knew before you did. Not to brag... it's just that I've been playing Final Fantasy for something like 15 years.

And of course the man behind the curtain was Sakaguchi who is an awesome awesome man. Very Awesome. A genius.

He still continues to make great games with that Final Fantasy feel to it. I think he was canned though after the flop of Final Fantasy: Spirits Within; which wasn't all that bad in my opinion.

Okay well I will just sit quietly in my corner because I knew none of that. I mean I like Final Fantasy a lot but I didn't go and research everything about how it started or anything like that all of that is new to me.

I'm so glad they decided to kill Aeris off in FF7 I don't think I could have handled her staying alive for much longer. No offence.

And for the record I hated Final Fantasy: Spirits within, it was terrible, there were like three colours in the whole movie grey..black and orange.

Yeah, the mastermind behind Final Fantasies 1-6, and a chief adviser on later Final Fantasy games, now runs his own company, Mistwalker. He's the main guy behind Lost Odyssey, which is why it's basically a FF game without the Square-Enix logo on it (from what I've heard in reviews).

I only know that because I just switched back to Comast, so I have G4 again and can watch X-Play.

By the way, I enjoyed FF: The Spirits Within. The ending was a bit lame, but overall I thought it was very well put together. Come to think it, though, there's very things that have come out of Japan where the story had what I considered a great ending. Japanese story endings tend to be either anti-climactic (Cowboy Bebop & FF X-2) or completely over the top.

I've been playing it for somewhere around that length as well, and I can get very in-depth when it comes to Final Fantasy, :P

I'm not so much following up on anything after the PSX versions of Final Fantasy though. After FF7, FF8, and FF9 I kind of lost touch with them and it seemed to be kind of the same thing over and over after that. I don't know, that's my feel about it, lol :P

Not saying I didn't like the ones that came after, but I prefer the more.. old-school ones, :P

It's definitely nice to know that the general community knew about it already, :P

I heard about the Aeris thing, and I did feel that the storyline after that part did seem a little weird.., but yeah.

See, I played FFX first and then went back and played the older PSX version games like FFV-FFIX. (With FFV and FFVI in the FF Anthology set)

I liked all of them the same pretty much. I loved the newer ones like FFXII and FFX is my favorite game of all-time, but playing FFV-FFIX brings back so many awesome memories from those games. I have to say those are close to the best games I've ever played. Hands down.

I think that aries dying, made the story how it was. I mean, iv'e heard it on here as well, No other game made people HATE someone like Sephiroth because of what they did. I mean when I was like 7 (never admit this anywhere else) seeing Aries die, made me...lol cry xD
the way they did it was amazing.

And, did you guys know that, that scene is the most emotional scene ever to be placed in an rpg ??!?!?!?!?!??!? (not hard to guess...)

Relient A - February 28, 2008 09:18 PM (GMT)
The funny thing is that the game industry still says they are trying to make "the first game to make you cry".

kingtard - February 29, 2008 08:27 PM (GMT)
hahaha, well they already did it for me.
well I mean youget so attatched to the characters of the game, it's like your really getting to know them.

Exyle - April 14, 2008 11:27 PM (GMT)
The only reason i knew this was because of Icons on G4TV. They called it Final Fantasy because they believed it was the last game they were to make.

The end of final fantasy X did it to me, i'm not normally emotional really, but FFX had such a beautiful ending, and when the music played i did feel the tears well up inside and my throat get dry, Final fantasy X in my opinion has the best ending of any FF game, infact any game overall.
