Title: A gameshow with a point...
Description: That nobody seems to get

There's a show in the US called "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" Contestants are asked questions from standard lessons plans from first through fifth grade and can win money by doing so.

The show is meant to be humorous and also show off that adults in the US are stupid (remind you of another topic? lol). As of yet, nobody has won the million dollar prize. However, after watching a few episodes, I get a different message out of it.

Much of the stuff we're taught in elementary school is useless when living our lives.

Thinking back, I can't remember much I learned in junior high, high school or even college that I use now, either. Most of it is forgotten since I've had no need of the knowledge for several years. And the only time I did need it was to pass my tests in school.

So, thank you, Jeff Foxworthy, for your (probably) unintentional and ultimately failed attempt to show just how stupid parents in the US really are. Stupid in that after going through school learning crap they don't really need to know, they never bothered to demand that their kids get an education that really matters.

Now to start thinking of how I can get the ball rolling on making others realize the same thing before I have kids that end up with the same useless "education."

I actually like this show when I catch it ever now and then. It's not so much that the questions are hard or tricky, but it's stuff I ahven't studied since I was in Elementary school some 10 or so years ago. I was watching it last month with my family and a question about the continents came on and about what country was in what continent, and I messed it up while my little sister who is 13 got it right.

Interesting show. I think Tony Hawk the skateboarder was on it not too long ago.
