So, some time ago I started playing FFXII again. A new game, fresh start, get everything I'd missed on my first playthrough(on which I only got as far as 20 hrs).
Then, due to my parents being divorced, I went to my mum's, and had no PS2. So I started playing FFVI again...
And I have to say that, even though I find myself enjoying FFXII more on this playthrough, I like FFVI more. The story, the setup, everything. Some time ago I also started playing FFVII again, and I have to say that it's still a brilliant game.
Now I'm back at my dad's and even though I'm playing FFXII now and enjoying it, I want to play FFVI. But I can't.
FFXII is a pretty decent game, but cannot outdo a 13-year old predecessor in any way.
I played and completed FFVI before the release of FFXII so I've enjoyed both thoroughly, but they are 2 completely different games.
Whereas FFVI has a VERY VERY good plot, I still think FFXII's plot is more mature than most Final Fantasy fans and gamers are use to. I go from site to site seeing what people though of FFXII's plot and all I see is an incomplete understanding of what Square-Enix was trying to get across.
FFVI's plot was simple and to the point. You have a major villain who takes on magical and mystical powers and throws the world into chaos and ruin and you have to stop him. FFXII's plays a more political roll of the dice scenario. There's corruption, deceit, betrayal, but also "light". You see the former people involved in affair such as Reddas and Balthier who made a turn for the better in their past and they are the one's with the knowledge of what is going on.
Both are great games and "must plays".
