Title: The Other Famous RPG Series
Description: Zelda

Anyone else a fan of the Zelda series? That series is what introduced me to RPG's. Actually, I probably would have never found the Final Fantasy series if it wasn't for Zelda.

I was introduced to the series right from the first Nintendo game, even though I never actually owned a Nintendo myself. All of my friends had the system, and most of them had the original Zelda game. We would spend entire days playing, and any magazine that had maps, tips, etc. we would buy and read over and over.

Of all the Zelda games, my favorite was actually an original Gameboy release, Link's Awakening. While the whole rescue the princess and the land of Hyrule from Ganon plot was cool (hey, all kids need a rescue-the-princess from the evil villain story), and the Triforce concept pretty neat, this game ditched all of that for a completely new concept. It really broke out of the typical RPG mold of the time, and the decision to even finish the game by completing the final step of the overall quest you were on from the start was difficult due to the consequences of that action. The game was very mature for its time and intended audience. I won't go into further detail, because some of you may still want to play the game. If you never have, I highly recommend it. You don't need to know anything about the Zelda series to play this one; it stands very well on its own. If you don't own a Gameboy or Gameboy Color, you can probably find an emulator for it online.

The old Zelda games are the ones I like. Over time, they seem to have lost the charm that made me fall in love with the series in the first place. All the recent gimmicks really just detract from what made the series great in the beginning. Four Swords Adventure and Twilight Princess aren't true Zelda games in my opinion. Even before those misfits, Zelda was derailing. I remember several years ago I was itching to play a RPG, but any of the newer Zelda games just didn't cut it. I couldn't get past how they just didn't fit in with how the series began. That's when I came across a demo of FFX and fell in love with a new series.

Yeah i used to be a pretty big Zelda fan, dont really play them much now to be honest though but seeing this really has put me back in the mood to play it :P .

Yeah i remember Link's Awakening for the Gameboy, i was addicted to that game for weeks on end if i remember right. I really liked The Ocarina of time, that was a damn good game. The story was brilliant and made me want to keep going and going.

I didnt really like Majora's mask mainly because that when u died, didnt u have to start from where u were with nothing regardless of what you had on you? That was a bit crappy to say the least.

I think deep down, Link's Awakening definetly was one of the starter games to get me in to RPG's.

Yup, gotta love that series too. I believe my first Zelda game was the SNES The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past... since then I've played several of the gameboy games, I dont remember their exact names... I dont think I have played any after The Ocarina of Time, but this is one series that I think I could definately see myself going back and playing again sometime.

I've only played Wind Waker but I really enjoyed it. I never had a NES or SNES when I was younger so I only really ever used to play Sonic and stuff but my older brother got a Game Cube and Wind Waker for it and I was very impressed when I played it. I know a lot of Zelda fans don't like it for one reason or another but because this was the first one I played. I wouldn't mind playing on Twilight Princess I watched my brother play it and it looks pretty cool... I'm probably going to get linched for making that comment *hides*

lol, nothing wrong with liking a game others don't. I know plenty of people who enjoy Twilight Princess. To me it's just plain boring. Whatever floats your boat, spins your wheel or makes you a big, scrumptious sandwich :-P
