Title: Non-Players: Regrets?
Aztec Triogal - December 9, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
I've only played FFXI for a little bit but I'm happy to say that I have played it, even if I wasn't a fan. As gamers, everyone here should probably realize that the FFXI servers won't be online forever. At some point SquareEnix is going to stop supporting them. While that probably won't be for a few more years, it is arguably within the foreseeable future.
Will any of you who have never played it, regret not ever playing it? I mean regardless of whether or not you wanted to spend $15 a month or not, it's still a Final Fantasy game. So even if you don't think you'd like the gameplay or the online environment, you may actually never be able to go back and play this games, just like you may have with Final Fantasy I. Does anyone regret never having played this game, even a little?

I was regretting not playing it, hence why i started my subscription quite a while ago, and im regretting the fact that currently im not playing it due to financial difficulties. When the serves go off, which as you said is going to be pretty soon i think, i wouldnt count on them being there for another 5 years, i will be pretty upset. Alot of online games have been gracious enough to pass the servers off to another company, and then make the game free to play, I know for a fact Square-Enix would do this, as they have said so in a previous podcast.
Hopefully when all is said and done, there will still be a game for FF fans to play, Even if its community has gone down the shitter.
I know SE are currently creating another MMORPG, and they have been said to of commented that once that is out, FFXI will be free.

Yeah I have never played it and I don't really want to either. I think final fantasy is something you should play on your own as a peronal game and online just doesn't do it for me.
Plus the whole idea of an online game that you pay for seemed like a uneeded expense and to much of a fuck around for my liking. Putting an older FF in my playstation is much easier.
I guess if they make it free to play I might get around to it but really I don't think that will happen really.

Tried it. Hated it. Most certainly didn't feel like a Final Fantasy game in any way. Formatted the HDD for the PS2 and now the rest of my games load more quickly and run smoother, so it wasn't a complete loss :-)

I never played FFXI yet, but I don't have any regrets because the servers for FFXI is still up, so all nonplayers still have a chance to play the game.
I also heard that if you buy the PC version, you don't have to pay the $15 a month(I don't know if this is correct) but if square stop supporting the servers, some fan probably will create one for the PC version. Similar to how there are unofficial doom and unreal tournament servers.
