Title: FFXii has not grabbed me by the balls

Melancholy Rockit - February 15, 2007 11:00 PM (GMT)
every other Final Fantasy I've ever played has pretty much hooked me instantly and I will play for an obscene amount of hours with few breaks in between. FFVII, 8, and 10 did. Even 10-2. But for some reason, 12 has not hooked me in the same way.

I think it is because it is not a traditional J-Rpg. Its very americanized and I think that's my problem with it. Also, I think its because it doesnt really focus on the characters. I play final fantasy games for the interesting cast and their stories. I dont play ff games for the world, and I also think thats my problem with this game.

Did anyone else hit this wall?

I can understand where you're coming from, but even though the story didn't pick up for me right away, I was interested to see what the big scheme was behind closed doors in the Governing body.

Then again I was totally hooked on this battle system which also kept me glued to the TV for quite some time. How far are you into it MR?

To be honest I felt and still feel very similar, MR. The story was never too gripping to me and I still have a save file less then 10 hours in that I haven't touched in probably over a month. I'm sure I'll finish it sometime but right now its not a high priority.

It didn't feel the same as the old FF games, and I think that is partially because of the lack of random battles. They were annoying as hell and I'm sure we all hated going through them, but damn it, they made FF.

The only thing that got me as far as I got (about 10-12 hours) was the fact that I know there is a huge plot and I want to know what it is. But my biggest problem is I hate Vaan so much. I only like Balthier and Fran at all thus far.

Fran is by far one of my favorite final fantasy characters ever. Very cool.

Anyways, to answer your question Bustamo, I'm inside the Tomb of Raithwall. Not very far I know. But, I havent played in a bit. Im just not really into the mood. I really really hope the story jumps soon cause I can never really get into these stories that take forrrreeever to start. For example, Stat Ocean:TtEoT

Yep... I feel the same way. I'm still at the same place I have been for a long time. Just at phon coast. Maybe it's for the reasons everyone else said, I'm not sure... but it's just not there for me.

Agreed that Fran is a very cool character. I like her voice.

it's so ironic. X-play rated FFxii 5 stars, and called it better than the other final fantasies for it lacked a 'sappy love story'. The main reason why i haven't played this game in a month...is because I don't like the way it is. The character designs are mediocre, there is no love story T.T, and there's no Shiva (well, there is, but not in the form I'd want her to be!). Also--the battles get somewhat repetetive.

I used to like Fran, and put her into my party..but then the release of the Final fantasy xii play Arts set was anounced (more FF figures) and the set is composed of Ashe, vaan, Balthier, and Judge Gabranth..So..to enhance my figure novelty, I booted Fran for Balthier.

-off topic-
OMG, the FFxii Play Arts figures came out today! I'ma' get them over the weekend!! O.O that's a grand total of 90-ish dollars! *le gasp

I fell victim to this game after the first battle as Vaan's brother. This game Roxorz. Although, it did kinda fade, once i got twilight princess for the WII, but i got back into it.
