Title: FFVII a Killer Game?

QUOTE
"Two 17 year old boys were arrested for murder this past weekend in a small German village of Tessin, after invading a couple's home and stabbing them both to death. The police caught up with them after they had kidnapped a 15 year old female friend, bound and gagged her, and then held a knife at her throat for an hour before giving themselves up. The murderers' names? Reno and Sephiroth.

Thats what Torben B and Felix D. call themselves as they were captured by the police for the crimes they commited. The police also seized their computer and found a copy of Final Fantasy VII installed. Now the German government has labeled the game as a "Killerspiele" or as a killer game.

Just so weird that a 10 year old game that doesnt even contain any violence and gore could be this destructive to the minds of German gamers."

Ummm...I think running around named Kefka and Chucky would have been more creative. Nah but for real, this is insane. I don't see how anyone can take a game like FFVII, or any FF game and just go rampant like that and junk.

Stupid Shmucks.

This news already is a week old, heard it before.
It's really insane.

Thats a little bit silly. If they read a book and did that the book wouldnt be banned! people pick on video games because they dont understand them

Relient A - January 21, 2007 09:41 PM (GMT)
Um, no. Books are banned all the time. It is unreal how many books have been banned... TV shows are banned all the time, too. I think video games have gotten off easy, actually.

Yeah we've had books banned from our College Library and this past semester there was some "Banned Book Week" that went down where the books that are classics that are banned were recognized. I mean, books from "To Kill a Mockingbird", "The Diary of Anne Frank", to "Winnie the Pooh learns his Alphabet". With the first one being one of my favorites, RA is right, books do get the bad end of the deal most of the time. Of course, you can get them elsewhere.

Then there's games like GTA: San Andreas which has been banned in a few different countries and even taken off the shelves here in North America and revised to fit a bit better and more moral standards.

Who knows. Maybe we all just need to go play Pac-Man again. "Oh wait?! The pills could resemble viagra, and Pac-Man could resemble Jeffrey Dahmer! Take it off the market!" *rolls eyes*

This can deffinitely be classifide as FUBAR. Not even cool. They ruined FFVII's name in Germany.

book bannings are just labels that vary from library to library. It's not like they take them out of bookstores and make them inaccessible to us all. If it was like that, I doubt one 'classic' book would still be around today.

I love the statement that Germany, of all places, is looking at video games as a source of violence. I mean, were video games around during, say, world war 2?

No.. a banned book is a banned book. And libraries are required to carry everything by law, so if they aren't carrying a banned one, you can have them order it. And as far as them not taking them off the shelves... what about books like The Anarchist Cookbook? Even searching for that online gets you blacklisted by the fbi.

EDIT: Upon further reading I'm now seeing that some libraries do ban certain books from the location. Odd. Goes against everything else I've seen/heard.

EDIT EDIT: Eh, maybe I'm jsut confused.

to just address one point: I'm not certain if the anarchist's cookbook was ever put into actual print. If it was, it was a much much milder version of what it is today, as it is updated continually via text file and reposted somewhere on the internet. I used to have a copy online. It was pretty useful as long as you use it within the constraints of the law, or are just using the articles for harmless pranks.

I learned how to break into turn-locks because of it.

Let me get this straight, they think it's the game that made them do it...it was them that made them do it. Every one has free will, and they dicided to go and kill a few people, and use the name reno and sephiroth...not the games fault...people that blame shit on games, are idiots, If games do influince people, then those people should just die...lol...

stupidest thing I've ever heard...concerning the murder

Palglo - January 24, 2007 12:19 PM (GMT)
Well if FFVII causes ppl to murder us lot are pretty much destined to murder somebody, I mean who here as played on more than say 3-4 FF games.

We're all "potential" mass-murderers by this logic.

I can understand GTA, But FF F**KING VII!? Those are kids, who's parents, are so overprotective, they don't let them watch Sponge BoB because they call each other Barnicle head.

*falls in love with Death Penalty's sig* I'mma call ya DP, mkay?

Crazy shit, man. But, I mean, everyone has a different reaction to pretty much everything. When I hear the ice cream truck outside my house, I go, "where's my wallet?" but when my best friend does, she starts rambling about the Anti-Christ and how the ice cream truck is fueled by the souls of children.

Anyhow, that's really weird. Like I said. Along with everyone else.
