Title: In 10 years...

So we all have the ability to fully enjoy FF games from the past even today with games being remade on the PS1, PS2, DS, GBA, and all that jazz. But with FFXI being an online only game, at the moment, where do you see the popularity of this game being 10 years from now? Do you see any transformation to an offline version so that people can play it independently aside from the MMORPG players around the world?
Myself, I would like to see an offline version for the fact that I do not game online and the monthly payments blow ass if I don't play that much, but for real, I'd like to see some form of off-lineness in the future.

i think it would be disappointing off-line unless they altered it and remade it for single player. Like most MMO's, its not meant to be played solo. In a solo game, I want an awesome story, awesome battles, and awesome gameplay. FFXI Has a good story, for an MMO, but nothing compared to the others solo FFs. The battles are kind of meh to me. Like the big bosses. And the gameplay is essentially a level up collect fest. So unless they drastically re-tailor the game for single player, it won't be that good of a single player game.
And 10 years from now, hopefully there will be a new Final Fantasy online called just FInal Fantasy Online. Don't mess with the continuation Squenix!

If they did it Guild Wars style - were you pay for each installment but no monthly fees come afterwards - I'd be far more tempted to give it a try. If I didn't like it then at least I wouldn't have to worry about still paying for it several months after. Hopefully Square - Enix will give consideration to this sort of approach for future expeditions into the online market.

My opinion, I think all mmo's should be free, but they need to get money some how. lol
I would be more tempted to play if, like S&S said, it were like GW

Well...I don't see this game lasting that long for one. MMO's only have a certain amount of life before the whole player base moves to World of Warcraft. ^_^
But offline...well, I consider XII as an offline XI. I really like that XII feels like a MMO, without the monthly paying and waiting for parties, not to mention the MMO's way of tediously having to level up...so yea, I think SE has a offline XI. But like was said, A literal offline XI would have to be changed to be a good game.
