Title: Mob Hunts
Sun And Steel - November 21, 2006 06:39 PM (GMT)
Well, since y'all have had it for a few weeks now I thought I'd see how everybody liked this little ( hah ) part of the game. Of course, when i say little it'll probably double the length of the game entirely if you plan to do all of them.
Personally: I love 'em. The fact that they're available more or less from the start of the game, considering you actually had to do one before getting any major plot events after the intro. Meaning that this is the first F.F. I've played thouroughly where you have access to a proper sidequest right from the off. It gave me a genuine sense of freedom to know that I had that option available to me if I were struggling with the main plotline. The difficulty of some of them is impressive as well, even at Port Balfonheim some of the earlier ranks can still pose a challenge to a party, at least in my experience. Of course, let's not forget the rewards either, for a game in which Gil isn't all that easy to come by, it's heartening to know that your clients and that certain other benefactor will give you some not bad booty as a pat on the back.

yeeesssir, I quite like it and when I'm tired of the main story line and dont feel like leveling up anymore I just go off and do a hunt or two. Much fun, much fun.

I love doing mob hunts. I try to do them as soon as they are availible, because I like the added challenge. I think it's stupid to come back at the end of the story, do a rank1 hunt, and kill the thing in 1 hit. It's more fun when you can take a break and do a challenging boss-ish fight. That's what I liked about the other FF's, challenging bosses, and the fact that I can play a bunch pretty much whenever I want is pretty awesome.

I was stoked for the Monster Arena in FFX, so when I figured out that the Mob Hunt Marks were going to be in FFXII and how they worked, I about sprung myself. This part of the game is GREAT!
Has anyone seen the HP for the final Mark? Yazimat? 50 Million HP. Suck on that Penence. The game is just going so far beyond itself and expectations I think and def worth the wait. Omega...10 Million HP, other's with way over a million HP in the health. Rare monster's (80 to be exact), but a reward game later on with trophies you collect and exchange or give to people for 30 of the "rarest" monsters. So many sidequests...
What does McDonalds say? "I'm Love'n it."

Dear lord some of these are hard. I just fought Deathgaze. Ouch. Yea, not even close. I'm going to try some others. I actually think I could have had him if it weren't for the "immune to physical attacks" thing. I hate when enemies do that, since I typically sport an all physical team. Not to mention I'm just not good when it comes to magic attacks and all that. I think there's a way to decrease MP usage in this game so each spell is only like 1 MP, but I'm not sure what that accessory is called or where to get it. I think I definitely need it though.

I'll start doing more of these when I get free reign of the airship here soon. I'm just getting tired of using up all of my teleport stones when I want to go somewhere so I've held off on the hunts until later on in the game. I've only completed a few of them myself.
There's also a secondary rare game hunt that you can participate in when you reach Phon Coast at the Hunter's Camp. That looks pretty cool too, so I'm glad that the sidequests in this game are focusing a lot on your abilites to fight and what your characters have ability-wise, instead of trying to play cards, or jump rope, or ride a chocobo.

I dont know anything about FFXII but from what ive read its very similar to FFXI, i mean Mob's thats what we call monsters, and doing it for missions! aswell as teleports! wow i want this game just because its so close to FFXI!

It's not too close to Final Fantasy XI but there are definite similarities. Actually though, there are things in Final Fantasy XI that I really wanted to be in this game. The major one is I was really hoping that when you equiped armor you could see it on your character. There's something about that that I really enjoy and it wasn't in this game. I'm level 56 and although I have great armor equipped, I'm still running in what looks like fishing waders and a bra. Not hero looking at all... more like someone in the local gay pride parade.

Yeah from what I hear about FFXI, the battle system was adopted off of that, but still tweaked where it needed improved or at least more user friendly. The system is great and turning into one of my favorites so far. The customization of characters, similar to Sphere grid, but not as limited really.
The Mob hunts do get mega-rough once you start getting into the bulk of them. Shitttttttt, even mastering the License Board may not be quite enough for some of those Elite Final Marks.

Wow, that's no joke. Just beat Fafnir. Over one million HP. Painful. lol Stop, Silence, Attack, and Scathe are his main attacks. Use Sap. He's vulnerable to Sap and more than that... it takes off about 7,000 HP each time it strikes him. It definitely turned the battle in my favor. When his HP is up, he uses status affects. I was constantly in a battle to keep my guys un-stopped or un-silenced. After he got about half way down, he got serious. He stopped trying to just cleverly kick my ass and resorted to the harder attacks. He hit me for about 2,000 HP a hit at level 70 and he comboed up to 8 times in a row. Needless to say, it killed Fran. haha To be honest though, the second part of the battle was easier than the first. Sap really helped... but there were other factors. My guys spread out, so when he scathed my guys he only took out one. One arise and it's like it never happened. To be honest, my guys did well hitting him between 1,500 and 3,000 but thanks be to Sap. If you can get him halfway down through anti-stop or anti-silence accessories and you can take his hits, you should be fine. Busta was here with me... talk about a rough battle.

The whole mob hunt thing is in my opinion a great addin for tgis FF which is one of the best. I do wish though that the armor would be shown

I don't know if any of you guys have had done this one or not ( if you've defeated Fafnir though I think it's likely ) but I'm having real trouble with a giant Chocobo in the Parmina Rift, I think it was called Trickster. You basically meet with a trainer and he eventually tells you that the Chocobo has appeared eventually; he does high damage which is fair enough and managable, but as soon as I thought I had it in the bag I couldn't damage him at all. I'm wondering if perhaps a Mist Knack/ Quickening combo is required.

I beat Trickster a few weeks ago, but had no problem with him. I have the Zodiac Spear on Vaan, and the Excalibur on Basch, but wait...does Trickster absorb Holy? Because Excalibur being a holy elemental sword, I think I had to change that weapon out for like "Save the Queen" or something. I think at one point if he puts up that Perfect Defense or something, he also runs around like a maniac and you have to try and catch him before you hit him.
Not sure though. I had my guys hitting pretty hard against him so I took him down easily. Finding him and getting hinm to appear was tough. I just kept zoning in and out until that Boogler Boggle head dude said that he finally showed up.
