Title: Tidus and Shuyin

Leona - November 11, 2005 11:38 PM (GMT)
...maybe Im just missing something, but i dont think it was ever explained why Tidus and Shuyin look so similar... coz Yuna and Lenne look similar, dress wise at least, but thats just because of the dress sphere and it was like Lenne's spirit of wanting to be a singer... yuna gets the dress sphere and tada.. looks similar to Lenne... But I dont remeber anything ever being mentioned as to why Tidus and Shuyin look so similar... did i just miss something, or has anybody got any theories as to why?! maybe its just coincedence... ?!?

so yeah, why do Tidus and Shuyin look so similar?!

to make the story make sense. Actually, I didnt think they really looked all that much alike. Look at Lenne compared to Yuna. I think Yuna has a slightly wider face(I think) and they're eyes are different and most facial appearance. Smae with Shuyin and Tidus. Tidus' eyes were smaller and his hair was also thicker and darker. I think it was just a coincidence cause if you look around, a lotta people look similar.

I didn't think Yuna and Lenne looked that similar, apart from the outfits of course and brown hair.

As for Tidus and Shuyin I agree with MR to a certain extent about how they look different, but I do think they look similar enough for Yuna to get confused after watching a fuzzy sphere. There's no reason they can't look similar, they lived thousand of years apart and everyone has an evil twin some where. Trust me I have seen them with my own eyes... Even though me and my friends haven't found mine yet! Huzzah! It was just coincidence that they are both blonde a have similar taste in clothes.

Plus Yuna would never have found Lenne's dress sphere if Rikku hadn't shown her the one with Shuyin in. Yuna wouldn't have become a Gullwing if the guy in that sphere looked like Wakka, or Squall. It was just a way for them to set the story up.

i think the reason that they look alike is because

*SPOILER WARNING: IF YOU AIN'T PLAYED FFX THEN SHOO*
tidus was a dream of the fayth, right? like an astroprojection kinda thing. and bahamut's fayth said that the whole dream-zanarkand was a dream so that they could remake the original zanarkand, and that maybe means that they were trying to remake the people too, so they made tidus as a duplicate of shuyin?? i dunno, that's just my theory.

I liek what spinning free said, it made a lot fo sense and now my head doesnt hurt anymore, but if:

SPOILER WARNING!!!!

Tidus and Yuna meet up in the end of the game (perfect ending by the way) what happens to Shuyin.... hm...

Nice theory SF!!! I mean, I know it was mainly so they could make the storyline work, but usually square pay attentention to finer details (not always tho!!) and give that kinda of thing an explanation....

Drift - November 15, 2005 11:03 AM (GMT)
The most logical explanation seems to be that Square wanted the character to look similiar 'for the sake of the plot', as said above.

But then again... If you look back at FFVII, there were various 'mysteries' regarding the game, and it could be yet another evil plot to confuse all FF players and make them create their own explanations to the game.

Or possibly, much like the "Aeris' ghost in the church" scenario, it could just be a glitch, and they simply forgot to add an explanation to the similarities.

*Curses Square and walks off muttering*

Yeah im pretty sure it was so all the plot fitted together and the story went as planned so i think im going with vespi and drift on this one

actually yes tidus is the projective image of shuiyin.
they look the same, they attack the same, they have (partially) the same life and girlfriends, everything. however they are two completely different people because tidus is more lively and happpier while shuiyin is just a shadow.

Chibi_Yazoo - February 4, 2006 12:14 AM (GMT)
Alright here is the reason.

The Fayth dreamt up Tidus who was a so called "Blitz player from 1000 years ago"
Shuyin was too, until Lenne got them killed. Tidus is a replica of Shuyin. He's got all his talents, not really looks, and the same voice (duh, same guy) XD

Tidus is Shuyin. Just in a different form
