Only 3 chapters into it and I'm already getting behind on these things. I've been a little busy and when school starts here in 3 more days or so, that will also greatly cut down on my free time. I'll try to post a new chapter whenever I can at the longest once every week.
Chapter 4: AUXILIARY, Midguard and the Inside InformationElsewhere in Midguard all of the members of AUXILIARY had returned to their base, except for one. AUXILIARY was a small band of mercenary’s in Midguard that usually helped the common people, but they have also done a number of small jobs and errands for Midguard; secretly spying on them for the “rebels” back at New Wykitron.
Restless Soul, the leader of the group paced back and forth impatiently and as he did so his pointed black and blue cape swayed like a pendulum in step with his movement. The other three AUXILIARY members were also waiting impatiently for the return of the fifth who had gone missing.
Jessie sat at a table, wearing her light gray armor and casual garments while nervously twisting her hair around her finger. Across from her sat
Wedge in his big pants and shirt equipped with shoulder armor and was just finishing up a sandwich.
Kilik on the other hand stood at the other end of the room sporting his pants and loose trench coat, leaning against the wall thinking.
RS: Where in the bloody hell is Lloyd!? He’s been gone too long to have gotten lost!
Jessie: Maybe he decided to join the battle like us and hasn’t returned yet.
RS: I gave him specific orders to stay here and guard the base!
Kilik: C’mon, surely you knew this would happen. When does that kid ever follow orders?
RS: Good point, but this has to be one of the stupidest things he’s ever done. …I mean running off without even leaving a note or any clue so we know where he is…or even if he’s ok.
Wedge: Aw c’mon cheer up guys. He’ll turn up eventually—I know it!
Everyone sits in silence for a moment, when Wedge decides to lighten the mood.
Wedge: Kilik…is this your coat?
He picks up one of Kilik’s smaller spare coats and puts it on barely fitting into it.
Kilik: Don’t do it.
Wedge: Ha ha ha ha. Fat guy in a little coat. Fat guy in a little coat.
Kilik: Don’t.
RS: Cut it out—this isn’t the time to joke around!
Wedge: Hee hee hee hee hee. *Singing* Fat guy in a little coat. Fat guy in a little coat.
Kilik: Take if off, dick-head. I’m serious.
Wedge: Oh c’mon Kilik, what could possibly—*Rip* U…h-o…h.
Kilik rubs his hand across his face in exasperation and before anyone else could say anything
Lloyd burst through the door. He was wearing his usual attire of a bright red shirt and blue pants with suspenders.
Lloyd: Back already guys? Did ya miss me!?
Jessie: Lloyd!
Kilik: Where’d you go!?
Wedge: Hey, man!
RS: And just where the hell have you been!?
Lloyd nonchalantly walks over to a chair and sits down propping his feet up and resting his hands behind his head.
Lloyd: I decided to do a little detective work, since you guys left me here alone.
RS: I told you to stay here and guard our hide away!
Lloyd: I got bored, ok?
RS: No not ok!
Kilik: RS said if you got bored you could tap into Midguard’s communication system and get information that way.
Lloyd: I thought I’d do it in a more interesting fashion.
RS: I gave you an order and you disobeyed it, again!
Lloyd: So I decided to do a little more hands on spy work—I don’t see what the big deal is!
RS: The big deal is if you keep being careless like this Midguard is going to catch on to us.
Wedge: And they wont be happy.
Jessie: Yeah and we cant help New Wykitron if they imprison us.
Kilik: More like they’ll kill us.
Lloyd: Ok I admit it was a dumb idea, but I have some good inside information that will more than make up for the risk!
RS: Oh do you!?…Just who was at this meeting anyway?
Lloyd: You know all the Midguard bigwigs.
RS: Like!?
Lloyd: Like Seran, his bodyguard Kerithor. That Goda guy, General Turkey and Pepe. Shall I keep going?
RS: No just tell us what you learned.
Lloyd: Alright I snuck into Midguard HQ and overheard a lot of top-secret stuff, right. Like the outcome of the battle and how we smashed the demons.
RS: We could have told you that!
Lloyd: Well did you know that the president fought in the war and died?
Jessie: Really!?
Wedge: No way!
RS: Keep going.
Lloyd: Yeah she’s in the hospital now being monitored—I don’t know why, since she’s already dead. I overheard that Midguard isn’t ready to tell the public yet. Oh and get this, the new pres is it that creepy Seran guy.
RS: Seran is the president of Midguard now?
Lloyd: I guess so. They already gave him power too and they haven’t even had a ceremony yet to start the elections.
Kilik: Not that it matters. The voting would be rigged in favor of Seran anyway.
RS: Did you learn anything else?
Lloyd: Yeah near the end, this SWIFT barged in and said his Academy was under attack.
RS: A SWIFT?
Lloyd: Yeah, his name was Ross, I think.
RS: Ross!?…He’s one of the advanced SWIFT’s.
Lloyd: You know him?
RS: No, but I’ve heard of him…I know my people of importance.
Kilik: He said the Academy was under attack?
Lloyd: Yeah, happened late last night. He rode here to ask for help, but got thrown into a jail cell instead.
Wedge: Why would Midguard do that?
Jessie: I thought the SWIFT’s were Midguard’s special attack force.
Lloyd: They are…or they used to be. According to Seran their traitors now, corrupted by “evil” like they say New Wykitron is.
RS: That’s absurd! The SWIFT’s vowed to fight evil and I know they would never give into it and stoop that low!
Lloyd: Seran played this recording of one of the elders summoning the demons too, but according to Ross it’s a fake.
RS: It probably was.
Wedge: But why would Midguard make a fake tape to make the SWIFT’s look like traitors?
Jessie: Well they must have some reason.
Kilik: Yes they wouldn’t just throw away their best training facility and fighters without a damn good reason.
Lloyd: Well Midguard had spies in the SWIFT Academy. They even wanted us to do it, but we turned down the job, remember?
Jessie: Yeah.
Wedge: I remember them threatening us not tell anyone, since we refused to do it.
Lloyd: I guess the spy’s overheard the SWIFT’s secretly plotting against Midguard and one of the elders told them the story of the Land War too.
Kilik: That story alone is enough to do it.
RS: Well since the SWIFT’s are now considered rebels like New Wykitron perhaps they can help us in the war against Midguard.
Lloyd: Yeah if any survived!
RS: Don’t be a fool, their some of the best fighters in the world, if anyone can survive a demon attack it’s them! …I’m going to call stephen griffiths and tell him we have some new allies.
Restless Soul walks up stairs and sets up the small portable radio, dialing in the frequency for New Wykitron. He gets through to New Wykitron and several minutes later they finally put stephen griffiths on the line.
SG: Hey Restless Soul, what’s up?
RS: Well to make a long story short, the SWIFT Academy has been attacked by demons and Midguard now considers the SWIFT’s to be traitors.
SG: That’s bad. Did anyone survive?
RS: I’m not sure. My bet is a good hand full of SWIFT’s are still alive.
SG: Well since they’re on Midguard’s blacklist that means they’re as good as dead.
RS: It also means they’re potential allies.
SG: You think they will accept?
RS: Well Midguard is out to get them and they’re smart enough to know they cant fight them, but they also wont spend the rest of their lives running. …It’s not their style, besides the SWIFT’s are holy warriors that vowed to fight evil and Midguard is no doubt evil, now.
SG: Ok so what’s the plan?
RS: I’ll leave tonight, go to the SWIFT Academy and pick them up.
SG: Well I figured that, but are you sure they will be there?
RS: If their not then I’ll go to Dukom.
SG: What if they’re not there either?
RS: They will be there. Gil says if they did flee they fled there, it’s the closest town.
SG: Ok you’re on, how about say 200 Gil?
RS: Alright, it’s a bet then. Now I’ll call you when I find the SWIFT’s and you can send an airship for us.
SG: Good idea, but there’s just one flaw.
RS: And what’s that?
SG: Unfortunately earlier today we were attacked by a number of beasts that came from the forest. I saw a few demons among them.
RS: There’s demons over there too?
SG: I guess. They we’re probably hiding in the mountain range south of here.
RS: Ok, so anyway, what’s the problem?
SG: Well not only was our airship badly damaged, but so was the air pad. So even if the ship could fly we wouldn’t be able to land.
RS: How long will it take to repair?
SG: A while…probably a week or so.
RS: Jesus a week!?
SG: Yeah, sorry. Do you think you can hold out with the SWIFT’s for a week, running if you have to?
RS: Are you kidding I’d rather take them to Ethereal Town and hijack an airship. It’d be a lot faster, but unfortunately we cant risk it, Midguard controls too much of Ethereal Town.
SG: If you’re not going to wait, then what are you going to do? Walk here?
RS: You know that’s not a bad idea.
SG: Funny.
RS: No seriously. It would be killing two birds with one stone, not only are we constantly moving around, running from Midguard, but we’d also be headed toward New Wykitron.
SG: Ok fine, what’s the plan then?
RS: I could drive the SWIFT’s to Jetasun Harbor, then we sneak aboard a ship bound for Paradise Port and from there we walk to New Wykitron. It shouldn’t take more than four or five day’s total.
SG: Your crazy! Jetasun Harbor is influenced by Midguard just as much as Ethereal Town, so you might as well just hijack a bloody airship and get here two or three days sooner.
RS: Yeah but lots of tourist pass through Jetasun Harbor to get to Paradise Port. We can blend in there and our chances of success are higher, even though it will take longer.
SG: Hmm…Sounds good, but you forgot about the Forbidden Forest that surrounds this city. I know you don’t know how to navigate through it, hell not even I do and I’ve lived here for years.
RS: Crap, your right—I forgot about that. …Wait, what about TheMissingCloud? Yeah he knows how to navigate through the forest. Where is the scoundrel at anyway?
SG: I don’t know, its kind of hard to keep track of the guy since he doesn’t go out of his way to keep in touch with people…even old friends. …The last I heard he was working as a mercenary in Valkilrie Village. He’s probably still there.
RS: Good that’s perfect. After we make it to Paradise Port we can travel to Valkilrie Village and pick up TMC. It will tack on an extra day, but at least we’ll get through the Forbidden Forest in one piece.
SG: Sounds like a plan then.
RS: Yep. In the mean time call up Jason, find out where he is and tell him the plan. Oh and tell him to go to a certain town and wait there for us so we can meet up. I’ll drag him and TMC along with us on our journey to you—Huh? What the—?
SG: What’s that noise?
RS: Someone is knocking on our door…That’s odd, we never get visitors at this hour. I better go, I’ll call you in another day or two and tell you how we’re doing.
SG: Ok, bye. See you when you get here.
stephen griffiths changes the radio frequency and eventually picks up Jason’s over in Paradise Port. Jason stops packing and answers the radio.
Jason: Hello?
SG: Oh wow your actually there for once, Jason!
Jason: And what’s that supposed to mean?
SG: Its been almost two months…Whadya go and fall off the face of the earth!?
Jason: I’ve been a little busy, stephen.
SG: Well I’ve been a little busy too, being the leader of New Wykitron and all. That doesn’t mean that I have to go and fall off the face of the earth!
Jason: Just consider yourself lucky that I actually have a radio here.
SG: Ha ha, yeah unlike TMC…So are you ready to go on another adventure?
Jason: Actually I was just packing for one of my own.
SG: You were?
Jason: Yeah. Earlier this evening I was training and a Bandit stole my Power Source. I’m getting ready to go hunt it down.
SG: Forget about it, it’s just a dumb Power Source!
Jason: Hey their rare, ok!? I’ve gotten all my stolen items back and there’s no way I’m not going to get this one back!
SG: Ok, so go get your Power Source back and then return to Paradise Port. RS wont be there for another day or so.
Jason: The Bandit is headed southwest from here and by the time I catch up to it I’ll already be half way to New Wykitron. There’s no point in walking back when I already have my gear with me.
SG: Alright then walk the rest of the way here and wait for everyone just outside of the Forbidden Forest.
Jason: Bah, my sense of tracking and direction is pretty good, I’ll just go through the forest myself. Sounds better than sitting around waiting for several days anyway.
SG: What are you dumb!? You may have good navigational skills, but you don’t know your way through the Forbidden Forest!
Jason: I’ll find my way, how hard could it be? And if I get lost I’ll just meet up with everyone in the forest.
SG: Ok, fine, do whatever you want, but just get here in once piece, ok!?
Jason: Sure. See you when I get there.
SG: Yeah, bye.
Back in Midguard Restless Soul switches off the radio and walks down stairs to see General Turkey standing by the door; someone had already invited him in.
TT: So I heard you guys helped fight in the battle today.
RS: Of course.
Kilik: Yeah.
Jessie: Uh-huh.
Wedge: That would be us.
Lloyd: Yep, gotta show our support for Midguard.
TT: I would have expected no less from you Restless Soul after your grandfather served in the Demon War. It’s funny I hear he looked just like you too; it’s a shame you didn’t join the army like him.
RS: Yeah, well, serving the common people as a mercenary has always been my specialty, but I assume you didn’t come here just to congratulate us on our support for Midguard without pay.
TT: No, actually I dropped by to see how your buddy Lloyd here is doing.
Lloyd: Just great, thank you for asking. I’m taking it easy after that grueling battle.
TT: Oh you helped fight too?
Lloyd: Of course.
TT: And I assume Restless Soul and everyone else here will vouch for you.
Lloyd: Yep!
RS: Yeah he was with us.
TT: That’s funny because none of the soldiers I talked to remember seeing you, Lloyd. And just a little while ago I could have swore I saw someone that looked just like you fleeing from Midguard HQ.
Lloyd: Well I am pretty fast on the battlefield and it musta been someone else at Midguard HQ. After all this red shirt and blue pants combination is pretty popular now…thanks to me.
TT: So you’ve been here the whole time?
RS: Yes he has.
TT: Well that’s good. I know you wouldn’t lie to me Restless Soul so I guess my eyes were playing tricks on me. I guess I’ll just have to start watching things more closely.
Lloyd: I don’t think you’re gonna hav—
RS: Lloyd!
TT: I’m not gonna have to what!?
Lloyd: …Nothing…Never mind.
TT: Oh-no go ahead say it! Confess!
Lloyd: …I should go to sleep, it’s past my bedtime.
TT: …And I should get back to Midguard to HQ. Forgive me for that sudden outburst.
General Turkey walks out the door.
Lloyd: Hey was that close or what?
Kilik: Yeah, thanks to you.
Wedge: Ah everything’s fine.
RS: No it’s not!…Now we have General Turkey on our ass, watching us!
Jessie: Hey RS did you shut my radio off and put it away?
RS: I shut it off.
Jessie: You know you gonna have to start learning to put things away, RS.
She walks off headed upstairs to put the radio away.
Lloyd: Ha ha, now it’s lecture RS time.
RS: I don’t think so…and you’re still not off the hook.
Lloyd: But I thought the information I got made up for my risk!
RS: It did, somewhat, but you still disobeyed an order and now The Turk is going to be keeping a close eye on us.
Kilik: We shouldn’t do anything too extreme until things calm down.
RS: Yes good point and until—
Jessie: Aaahhh Yeeee!
They hear a loud scream from Jessie and all rush up stairs to see what the trouble is. When they get up there they see
Pepe in his green shirt and tan pants, but a black cloak covers up part of his attire. They see him swiftly walking over to the other side of the room where his
Battle Scepter is partial implanted in a wall. Jessie is lying on the ground nearby and had obviously rolled out of the way when Pepe threw his scepter at her. Wedge runs up to Pepe and punches him in the stomach and he falls to the ground after having the wind knocked out of him. Meanwhile Lloyd runs over to Jessie and helps her up.
RS: C’mon lets go—its not safe here anymore!
They run downstairs and lock the door on they’re way out; shortly afterwards they hear muffled swearing as Pepe bangs on the door. They all run to the front door and open it only too see The Turk standing there with his black leather
whip in hand. Along side him is his trusty Guard Hound,
Greiver, snarling angrily at them.
TT: And where do you traitors think your going!?
Lloyd: I’ll take you on any day fancy clothes!
RS: Not so fast!
Restless Soul grabs Lloyd pulling him back and slams the door in The Turks face locking it.
RS: Quickly! Out the back!
Everyone runs out through the back door into the alleyway and as they do Pepe breaks down the door and runs down the stairs after them followed shortly after by General Turkey and Greiver. While they run Pepe and The Turk talk to each other.
TT: Why didn’t you just use magic!?
Pepe: I didn’t want to make too much noise and blow my cover!
TT: Well it’s kind of late for that now isn’t it! The queue to get out of there was when I raised my voice!
Pepe: I had issues with the window!
The AUXILIARY members reach a dead end and climb a fire escape to get away. Lloyd pulls the ladder up after everyone has climbed up.
Lloyd: There that should stop you.
The Turk uses his whip to pull the ladder back down so him and Pepe can climb, but Greiver runs off in another direction, unable to climb.
Lloyd: Or not.
RS: Lloyd! Hurry up!
The chase continues up on the rooftops of Midguard and after jumping across several alleyways they find themselves trapped with all the other buildings too far away to jump to. The AUXILIARY members rush into a building through the stair access and start running down the stairs headed for ground level. Pepe and The Turk are in hot pursuit and Pepe runs down the stairway after them, but General Turkey walks in a different direction completely. After running down many stairs with Pepe not far behind them they finally reach the first floor and much to their surprise General Turkey is already there waiting for them.
TT: Hello, hello. Going somewhere?
Kilik: We don’t have time for this!
Kilik knocks The Turk down with his red staff and everyone runs out the door back out into Midguard’s streets.
Lloyd: Ha ha smell ya later!
Pepe: You alright?
TT: Yes! Now, after them!
The AUXILIARY members continue running and go down another alleyway finding that Greiver has comeback for them and is joining in the chase. In the distance the alleyway splits up into a number of different directions.
RS: If we want to loose them we have to split up! We’ll meet up at “The Spot”!
They all run in different directions splitting up, throwing off General Turkey and Pepe, but Greiver continues to peruse Restless Soul.
RS: Don’t I have all the luck?
Restless Soul continues to run with Greiver right on his heels as he runs the path opens up and starts running over railway tracks. A train passes by down below and Restless Soul jumps onto it barely making it. He climbs up on top of the train car and Greiver also manages to jump down onto the train and takes a swipe at Restless Soul, but he blocks the beast’s deadly claws with his
sword and kicks Greiver off the train car. Greiver gets up and chases after the train, but it quickly outruns the beast. Eventually Restless Soul reaches “The Spot”, an old abandon warehouse near the walls of Midguard. Kilik, Wedge, Jessie and Lloyd were already there waiting for him.
Lloyd: Look who’s late now.
RS: Sorry I had to loose the Guard Hound.
Wedge: What do we do now?
Jessie: We cant go back.
Kilik: Yes and thanks to someone we cant stay in one spot for very long either.
RS: Look I’m leaving Midguard to take the SWIFT’s to
New Wykitron. Why don’t you guys come with me?
Kilik: We have an obligation to stay here and spy on Midguard. So I’ll stay here and continue to help New Wykitron gather inside information.
Lloyd: I’m staying too! Things are just starting to get interesting and I usually work like this anyway. *Smirk*
Jessie: Their right. I’ll stay here too.
Wedge: Sorry RS, I’m staying too. For New Wykitron.
RS: Ok then I’ll go alone. In the mean time you guys go back to the AUXILIARY base and grab anything important then find a new hide out, ok?
Kilik: No problem.
RS: Kilik, your in charge while I’m gone and everyone keep an eye on Lloyd, ok?
Lloyd: Gee thanks, ha ha. So how are you going to get to the SWIFT Academy?
RS: I’ll take The Big Rig.
Wedge: Hey you better bring my truck back in one piece!
RS: Always do.
Jessie: What if their not at the Academy?
RS: Then I’ll go to
Dukom.
They all say their good byes and Restless Soul hops into Wedge’s truck,
The Big Rig and he roars out of Midguard to find the SWIFT’s.
