Title: Best Limit System
lblrydr - August 1, 2005 12:14 AM (GMT)
Which game do you think had the best limit system?
I would say FFX becuase it had different ways to gain it and you could save it for a boss fight if you wanted.

FFVII... its the basic and it WORKS ^^...
even though the system in FFVIII made you use it all the time might spoil some of the playing... it made the grinding MUCH more easier and quicker...
but i still vote for FFVII ^^....

Even though i take all the other ff's in to consideration... i just dont think that it can beat ff7.. it had a good system along with the best limits..

I have to agree with STOWA!FF7 rules.

FFVII was the best. You didn't have to wait until you had low HP to use it and you couldn't mess it up. Now don't get me wrong the more interactive limits in FFVIII was very cool too.

FFX was the best. Each character had a unique and fun way of doing their limits, and you were able to save them.
FFVIII is in close second, even though they're all the same, it was still a good system. A bit easy, though. I don't like how you only (well more commonly) got it in critical health.
I would like to point out that people are only saying FFVII because it's their favourite FF. The limit system truely did SUCK compared to the others. You couldn't save it and you didn't have to do anything to earn them/use them. The only good part was the fact that everybody had so many different limits to use.

I would like to point out that you may be an admin with over natural powers... but you STILL cant read my mind (even though you might say that you do)... but sry ross i STILL like the FFVII system more... also on how to get the new limit breaks... and no its not because its my favorite FF since FFX is actually right besides FFVII imo... so sry ross but we might just have an another oppinion.
and actually you DID have to do something... to get them you actually had to grind alot normally unless you know the system... there is more 2 it then FVIII... where you just got it with a new weapon and it was all random... that sucks even more!....
Here it is divided in levell... 1 2 3 4 as everyone knows... and eery level have 2 limits except for level 4.... to gain the second limit in the level you had to use the previous limit a special amount of times... (think that it was 8 times or so)... and to gain a new level you had to kill about 80 enemies... with the character... so everytime a character dealt a death blow he /she would be one step closer to the next limit level.. might not sound as much.. but actually it is :P... for those who just rushes through the game without grinding to get everything wont be rewarded at all..
i think it works better then FFVIII where everyone can get the cool limits just by buying a new weapon... and in FFXI the trance thing was just... yeah well i know that i got so many times where i got trance in the LAST action in the battle and lost it... never happens to me in FFVII...
i like the FFVII system the most but i hope that more interesting and user changeable sytem comes in the future (where you choose what kind of limits you want to have such as either if you go for one hard stroke or quick small hits or whatever you liked)...
and its NON debateable what my oppinion is ^^....

I would say FFVIII for It has the Lionheart in it and I just love the system and I love how you can use Aura's to activate it.
Second would be FFVII for it is a very good system and It makes sence to be the amount you level up to increase the limits that you have and to kill enemies to get limits is quite a good method because it gets people to battle battles to make sure they learn a new limit and to have your last limit as a tome is quite fun.

Being that it was so easy to activate limit breaks without actually dying... FFVIII. I considered FFVII and thought that to be good too...but it just seems so much easier in FFVIII. IX was the worst, the whole problem with the Trance activating right before the monster gets knocked out by the next character.

hmm thats a hard one, number 7 never got me
it would have to be in between 8 or 10. I really liked the sphere system: keeps you occupied, take your path, learn different abilities, added challenege with the locks
but then again 8 was also good with: the use of 100 or whatver types of majic all with the different possibilities, gf's which give you more ability spaces and the gf's learn abilities
so yeah i cant decide between the two but 8's my favourite so ill go 8
SpinningFree - August 1, 2005 01:43 PM (GMT)
i think theyre talking about limits, not leveling.
i liked x teh best because you had the option to save it for whern you needed it. i didnt like how in 7 you eitgher had to use it or do like magic or something, and you couldn't attack.

Ohhhh toughie! The worst in my opinion was IX's. It really really used to get me peeved when you were just about to kill a monster and a character would go into Trance thus wasting it completely. The lack of control or choice of when to Trance was a major downfall of the FFIX limit break system.
FFVIII's was quite good although I never used to like the fact that the character who was using ther limit could die at any second due to low HP. Of course you could get around that with Aura but earlier on in the game it could be frustrating, esspecially when you tell your character to do a limit break and before they get the chance to the monster/boss you are fighting kills em.
FFVII's was good, apart from when you wanted to save the Limit break for a boss. Then you couldn't attack normally. I really liked the way you made your way up the Limit Break ladder though and had to specially get the Level 4 limit break from a special location or in a special way. Some of them like Tifa's were awesome once you had all of them too. The massive chain of attacks she pulled off was just immence esspecially if you were able to get all "Yeah's".
My personal favourite though was FFX's. I liked it because you could choose how they gained their limit break (Stotic, Healer, Comrade, etc...) making each character gain thier limit break in a way that was suitable fo how you used that character. I also liked the way that the limit breaks were gained in different ways, for example Aurons were collected through watching Sphere's, Yuna's depended on what Aeons you had and Rikku's relied on Items. I also loved the fact you could save the characters limit/overdrive and still be able to attack normally. I feel it's much more clsely deveoped from FFVII's system too (compared to FFVIII and FFIX) which is probably another reason I like it so much. It took away all the things I disliked about FFVII's system (which I love nearly as much).

Yes that's your opinion, and I posted mine so please don't debate mine either. Hypocrite.

Well, even though i wasn't a huge FFX fan, I guess that would be the best limit system, if only marginally, followed closely by VII...or Tactics advanced, limits being Totema XD.
Its been a while since I played VII, but I thought you could save it...just not use normal attacks. The fact that you could do anything while 'storing' limit breaks in X was the best...although the numerous different different attacks were neat in VII, although many were deemed useless after leveling up.
I thought VIII was the worst actually, in that you could 'reset' your turn or whatever by pressing circle until you got it when you had low health...I often found myself keeping my characters with the strongest limits at low health, and letting them die, just so I could get the stronger attacks in.
IX was pretty bad too...except I like how some storyline elements put your characters in trance...made it a biti more interesting.
