The only reason this is intermediate is the amount of layer options applied to your text. Shall we begin.

1. Start out with a background. For this tutorial I will be creating some clouds. If you have your background already, move to step two. If you want to make some clouds, press D on your keybooard. This will set your colors to default. Now go to Filter>Render>Clouds.

2. Now apply a color balance. If your background already has a color balance, you may move to step three. If you don't have a color balance, it is time to make one.

3. Write your text on your image in a plain black font. Any will work but it works best on non-bolded texts.

4. Go to Blending Options.

Drop Shadow

Bevel and Emboss

Satin

5. Now following the same techniques, apply a white, 1 pixel stroke.

Now you should have something like this.

6. Just drag your text layer under your color balance layer and your done! Your text should now blend with your background. Here is my result.
