Oooooooooooo!!!!!! Cool!!!! What to start with....ok, how many people here have ever read 'Wish'? Its a really cool manga about a guy *who just happens to be a total bishy* who rescues an angel from a tree and the angel insists on granting him one wish in return for him saving her. He however says he doesn't have a wish to be fulfilled so the angel*named Kohaku* ends up staying at his house until she finds a way to pay him back. Its a really good and once you reach the end sad manga even though its only four books long.

Kago - April 8, 2004 02:50 AM (GMT)
The "Angel comes to Earth to help some guy" theme is pretty prevalent in Anime and Mangas. My favorite is Oh My Goddess!, but I've also read Guardian Angel Getten, Faeries Landing, and I've heard Pita Ten is good too. Another variation is the "Android Girl" which includes Mahoromatic, Saber Marionnette J, Steel Angel Kurumi, Hand Maid May, and (to a certain extent) A.I. Love You. And of course who could forget such "Classics" as Tenchi Muyo (Alien Girls), Love Hina (Regular Girls), and Ai Yori Aoshi (RICH Girl).
Not that theres anything wrong with this theme, it just happens to be pretty common.

Pan Pan - April 8, 2004 04:25 AM (GMT)
ah, i LOVED wish. though in the manga, tokyopop made kohaku into a girl... o_o the angels are actually supposed to be androgynous, meaning they have no gender at all... weird... but I guess Tokyopop didn't think we would understand or something... ANYWAY... I really liked the series though. i thought it was adorable. I think Kouryuu is my favorite. he's so cute as a chibi too!

kaibas_gurl_ - April 8, 2004 04:31 AM (GMT)
I've read the first volume and part of the second. My friend just decided that I wasn't allowed to read it anymore. I wonder why... hmmmm.... anywaqy so now I'm goig to have to go through her room to search for the second and third volume. So far I think it's really cute.

Lazy_Gurl - April 8, 2004 03:06 PM (GMT)
"Wish" sounds a lot like "Oh! My Goddess" kinda.....It sounds really good I will look into it. Has anyone heard of Love Hina? I've read some of the volumes, its really funny. I've heard of a anime called Orphen... I haven't seen it though. Anyone want to tell me whats it about? :D

Orphen has been released by ADV, so you can try their website www.advfilms.com

Lazy_Gurl - April 9, 2004 12:54 AM (GMT)
Thanks! But whats sad is I have a mac so I can't watch any trailers..............not fair....by the way...why do you bother?

No-Chan-San - April 9, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
*rubs hands together in anticipation*
YAY!! ORPHEN!!!
*ahem* so um yeah..
Orphen is about this guy who calls himself ORphen, who is teaching magic to a kid named Majic. They decide they need to go gallivanting around the countryside to help to teach Majic, and a girl named Cleao tags along.
ONly it's not quite that simple. Cleao's family has this ancient magic sword which this dragon, Bloody August, is after. Orphen has been trying to find it for a few years, and he finally succeeds (obviously) and goes about trying to get it. Cleao and her sister get kidnapped by Bloody August and saved by Orphen, before Orphen and Majic go on their adventures.
What is the secret that connects Orphen, Bloody August, and the sword?
You'll just have to watch and see!!!
This show has lots of funny stuff, lots of magic, some seriousness, a pretty cool mystery, a fun dub cast, but a really bad translation for the first half. ADV even admitted they screwed up by letting it get changed so much. Seriously, you have 2 different stories if you watch both versions. I just watched it in english with the subtitles on.

Seriously, the outtakes on dvds 3 and 4 are THE BEST of any outtakes. Ever. The only ones that come close are the outtakes on Berserk and Knight Hunters, so far. ;D

Orphen gets a thumbs up from No-chan!

Kago - April 9, 2004 03:57 AM (GMT)
They did the same thing with Sorcerer Hunters. In fact they do that alot.
The Sorceror Hunters dialogue stands out though. The story was basically the same but they changed the dialogue so much in some of the episodes that their plots were altered.
But it's still funny. The show is about a party pf "adventurers" who are sent out on missions by their boss (Big Mama) to hunt down and eliminate sorcerers and sorceresses who abuse their power. Only problem with this is that the group isn;t exactly made up of a crack team of experts (these people make the Slayers seem bright). The team consists of:
Carrot Glace: The "leader". Has no apparent skills aside from a libido that most men would either kill (or be killed) for and the ability to transform into Zoanthropy (Giant Horny Beast) whenever he comes into contact with magic.
Marron Glace: "The magician." Carrot's younger brother. Very protective of Carrot. He's the shows resident Bishie and is by far the smartest member of he group. Is also extremely effeminate.
Gateu Mocha: "The Strong Man." The resident muscle man. Has a tendency to rip off his shirt and flex. Supposedly has a thing going on with Marron.
Tira Misu: "The Nerd." Normally quiet and reserved. Can transform into whip wielding, cackling, Dominatrix at the drop of a hat. Is in love with Carrot and constantly fights over him with Chocolate, when their not beating him up. Carrot only transforms back from Zoanthropy after being whipped by the Misu sisters.
Chocolate Misu: "The Slut." <---'nuff said. Can Transform into Garrote wielding, Hardcore S&M, Pirate Dom at the drop of a hat. Constantly fights over Carrot with Tira, at least when they aren't pummeling him. Carrot can only change back from Zoanthropy after being whipped.
Dotta: "The Messenger." Looks like a chinese angel with point ears. Relays messages between the team and Big Momma. Carrot hits on her.

Despite the obvious over abundance of S&M, Pretty Girls, and Sexual References their mostly there just too lead to Carrot being pummeled. And the story does actually have a very serious plot that involves a fallen Knight and his plans to bring about the end of the world, but how the Sorceror Hunters fit into this plan is something you'll have to see for yourself.

Series = 26 episodes + 3 OVA episodes.
There's also another 2 episode OVA called "Sorcerer On The Rocks: A Bastard For The Ages" but it follows a completely different group of hunters.

susaki - April 9, 2004 03:02 PM (GMT)
MEGATOKYO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*No-chan boots some of those evil exclamation points out of there*

No-Chan-San - April 9, 2004 04:32 PM (GMT)
Kago> Yeah, ADV used to do that a lot. They're a LITTLE bit better now. The difference in the first half of Orphen (in which they also changed the plot, renamed a couple of beasts, and changed Cleao's overall attitude) to the last half is quite extreme. It's actually just the first 9 episodes.. cuz they also changed how many eps they put on a disc and THEN said that they had a new format for 26 ep series, which they changed after anyway.. *rolls eyes*
That's the OTHER thing they changed! MARRON is NOT gay! Not even remotely, apparently. He DEFINITELY doesn't have anything going with Gateau. Stupid ADV. ;) Yeah, he's the bishie. Yeah, he's effeminate. That does NOt make him gay. I guess they took a couple of jokes in the show to seriously, cuz apparently in the dub, they really make you think that. Otherwise, I liked what I saw of it. Though I hate that fat girls think it's fun to cosplay as the Misu sisters. <_< There were like.. FIVE Tiras... I think.. is she the one with the red almost top?.. anyway, there were five of them at the first NDK we went to. Only ONE of them had the body for it. The others made me vomit when I saw them. *shudder*

Lazy_Gurl - April 11, 2004 03:17 AM (GMT)
made you vomit? Is that like just words or did you really vomit? I don't think I have ever vomited over something like that......But I'm glad orphen has good reviews so when I watch it I will know it's good!

susaki - April 11, 2004 04:36 PM (GMT)
lol, sorry about the megatokyo maddness there...hehe ^_^

miaka_chan - April 12, 2004 06:09 PM (GMT)
Does any know what alice 19th is.... i think that's the name... I've been wondering if it's any good.... I like the chobit manga series, altho i've only read half of the 1st one and, well, that's it, i really liked it! Are we supposed to make sense here, cus i don't think i'm making any...

nie-chan - April 12, 2004 06:23 PM (GMT)
Alice 19th is so cute! It's done by Yu Watase (I think that's how you spell it) I've read only two volumes - I waiting to read more!! You should check it out! Read a bit of it at borders if you're not sure you want to buy it.

Her latest one.. Zettai something... Pan pan what's it called? (I'm still missing a chapter!) is like chobits... but it's a guy... and it's Yu Watase... so of course he's HOT!!

miaka_chan - April 13, 2004 12:47 AM (GMT)
That sounds cool! now i get to tell my friend about it who is a chobits fanatic! YAY!! *hehe* Anyway... Thanks for the info on Alice 19th! *goes to mall..Oh! the manga section!!!* *buys away* :D

Pan Pan - April 13, 2004 05:46 AM (GMT)
hoooooly crap yes. Zettai Kureshi(Absolute Boyfriend) is awesome, I am loving it lots. I need to download more of it. it is a lot like chobits... but the main robot is a guy. He's trying to learn to understand women, so he can be a better um.... lover... since that seems to be his primary function. sounds weird, i know, but it's actually very sweet. if you know how to use Mirc, you can download it at shoujomagic.org good stuff. I really want to finish reading Alice 19th as well. I read almost the 1st two volumes before it was licensed, but i really want to know how it ends! Frey(furei) is so cute! Fun story too... need to go get me some more manga... *whine*

Lazy_Gurl - April 14, 2004 12:09 AM (GMT)
FUN! I was wondering....is there any sites that you can read manga online? I want to read something..........hmmm *thinking about reading something*

miaka_chan - April 14, 2004 12:14 AM (GMT)
I have no idea!! BUT IF I DID I WOULD NEVER GET OFF THE COMPUTER!! YAY! ...um...yeah.... I'll have to find someplace!.... *turns on super computer and starts looking up anything to do with anime/ manga* :)

Pan Pan - April 14, 2004 12:32 AM (GMT)
um, yes, actually there are places to read/download manga online... they're usually in .jpg format or in .zip files... the most well-known site is probably toriyama-world.com which has lots of cool titles... but if you go to Manga Jouhou - http://www.manganews.net/ they have a listing of EVERY manga you can download online... so... check it out, ne? speaking of toriyama world... they had to take down one of the manga called Bleach... oh man... I love it... but it'll be available here soon. anyone else read it or heard of it? I think Viz has the rights to it... so it'll appear either in graphic novel format or in Shonen Jump soon... ah, how i miss it... :(

~Pan Pan

Lazy_Gurl - April 14, 2004 03:23 PM (GMT)
Thanks Pan Pan u saved me! I haven't heard of bleach...whats it about?

Pan Pan - April 14, 2004 04:52 PM (GMT)
Let's see... Bleach is... um... well some of the plot reminds me of kingdom hearts... but that's later... pretty much there's a family in Japan, the "Kurosaki's" and they all seem to have varying degrees of spiritual power... except the father... he's... very dense... anyway... the main character is Ichigo... think... Kyo from fruits basket, only lankier, messier, and with more attitude. His spiritual power is off the charts... *whisper* he sees dead people! all the time! lol... so... anyway... one day he's walking to school and he sees this person dressed in an old fashioned kimono and carrying a katana... Ichigo thinks... "hm... that's odd..." as he watches, he finds out the person is a Shinigami(one responsible for taking the souls of the dead to the "other side"). He is also shocked to find a giant ugly monster (called a "hollow"... kingdom hearts reference here... they look a LOT like really big heartless!) Hollows are what happens to a soul that is unhappy or angry after their death. they destroy and kill and all kinds of not nice stuff... the real stickler is that they're attracted to spiritual energy... which means to them, ichigo is like the ultimate YUM YUM. The shinigami lends ichigo it's power, they defeat it, yadda yadda, more of them show up... there's magic transformation Pez dispensers... something like an MIB neuralizer... only it looks like a kid's toy... what else... lots of random weirdness... it's quite fun. Definitely pick it up when Viz gets around to releasing it!

Not to mention the dubbing sucked. <_<
If you're looking for a good Sci-Fi Space Adventure/ Mecha show, VANDREAD has
"Candidate For Goddess" beat on all counts. VANDREAD's space battles blow Candidates completely out of the water.

I'm not familiar with those Watase titles you mentioned; I only know FY and Ceres. I loved FY, as you all already know, of course, but. . .okay, I fully acknowledge I'll probably get reemed for this, but I didn't like Ceres. I've only read the manga, but frankly I'm not inclinded to see the anime. It had some funny moments, but overall, I found it lacking. The pacing is choppy at best, the whole Aya/Toya relationship felt very off to me, the plot had some rather odd but obvious holes in it, and the story in general just didn't flow. Also, it was a bit darker than I really like, but that's more of a side point. The plot idea was a good one, I just really don't like how it was realized. :(

FY, on the other hand - I loved the characters; I could identify and sympathize with them. The situation was fascinating and involving, and the relationships were believable. I still choke up when I watch - er, names with held so as not to spoil anything - die.

The manga for Ceres is a lot better than the anime, so if you didn't like the manga, you definately wouldn't like the anime. I did enjoy Ceres, but I loved FY soooo much better. (and OH YEAH Ceres is a lot darker than FY)

... I still choke up at those parts too. When I first saw the series I was balling!

On another note:

Vandread is awesome!! I still need to finish second stage though... bad nie-chan. I've had forEVER.. I just need to watch it.

kagome-chan - April 16, 2004 12:54 PM (GMT)
I love ceres! I'm still dying to find out what happens in book #6! At first I was a little reluctent to read it but as I went on to book #2 I fell in love with it.
FY is by far one of the best mangas I've read and am still reading. I'm still on book#9 and it's killing me.

Right now I'm reading Kurumi. It's interesting but there's one too many pantie shots so if you read it there's a warning. But other then that it's entertaining.

Lazy_Gurl - April 17, 2004 12:53 AM (GMT)
I just have to clear something FY is fushigi yuugi, right? Has anyone read fruits basket manga? I found out it just came out this year or last i don't exactly know but ya.....they only have two volumes out, The third volume doesn't come out till june...I cant wait that long.......the wait is going to kill me!!! So i think I will start buying the anime...hehe..... :ph43r:

kaibas_gurl_ - April 17, 2004 12:56 AM (GMT)
Yeah FY is Fushigi Yuugi. And Why do they make us wait that long for the next volume of fruba? It's just too long to wait! I think I may go crazy.(but i alrady am right?)

miaka_chan - April 17, 2004 01:36 AM (GMT)
Has anyone read D.N.Angel? I just got it, but now i want the next volume... Is the second volume already out, or was it just not in the store that I went into...I WANT TO KNOW!!!! It wont tell me when the next volume is comming out or if it even is out for that matter... Does anyone know? [it's really good, too!] :D

kaibas_gurl_ - April 17, 2004 01:41 AM (GMT)
I'm still trying to "borrow" it from my friend. So I haven't read it yet, and I don't know when the next volume is coming out...so I'm not of much help here! ^^U But I have read bits and pieces of it on the internet, and I love Dark Moussey! Moussey...

miaka_chan - April 17, 2004 01:44 AM (GMT)
