Ok, here I go...

Hikaru is 5th or 6th grade...help here Pan~pan...and he comes across a go board that has a blood stain on it, but his friend doesn't see the blood stain. Then Sai comes out and is like "oh you can see it, you are one I've been waiting for!" So, Sai....haunts him. Sai is from Ancient....ancient China and he was a Go teacher for the emporer, and even tho he is dead all he wants to do is play go. So, he is attached to Hikaru, who has no interest in Go. But when Sai gets sad about not being able to play Go, Hikaru gets sick. So, Hikaru gives in and takes Sai to play Go, but as he lets Sai play he starts learning and eventually he wants to play himself reach Sai's level. Hikaru is a prodigy. He has a rival who first played against Sai, but then when he played against Hikaru he was disapointed. So, it goes through Hikaru growing up and advancing through the "go ranks".

I'm not done with the manga and I've seen half of the anime, but it is much better than I make it sound. There is something that engrosses you...did I spell that right? anyway.....and there is something there to make it so much more and better than just some story about a board game.

i think your explanation was pretty good nie-chan! That's Hikago in a nutshell, boy possessed by spirit of board game fanatic, learns to play the game himself and becomes one of the best! fun fun stuff. i liked the manga a lot more than the anime. plus there's some side stories and such they left out in the anime ^_~ the manga should be coming out in the u.s. soon though! With how popular it was in Japan, i wouldn't be surprised if the game started to rival Yugioh and Poke-mon someday!
