'Fearless Is None of That for WB
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Taking a page from the FOX playbook, The WB has dumped the drama series "Fearless" before anyone, save some industry types and the nation's TV critics, got to see it.
The outcome was widely assumed when the network pulled the show from its fall schedule, saying producer Jerry Bruckheimer wanted more time to develop the concept. Jordan Levin, The WB's co-CEO, officially signed its death warrant Tuesday (Jan. 13) at the TV Critics Association press tour.
"Fearless," based on a series of books by Francine Pascal, starred Rachael Leigh Cook ("She's All That") as a young FBI agent genetically incapable of feeling fear. The chief criticism of the series was that Cook's character came off more affectless than fearless.
"We tried ... but we just couldn't find someone who could crack that concept," Levin says.
Although it has a breakout show in the teen-Superman saga "Smallville," The WB has had trouble in the past two seasons developing high-concept series. Last season's "Birds of Prey" and this year's "Tarzan" both died after only a handful of episodes ("Tarzan" is technically on hiatus, but few people expect it to return).
"One Tree Hill" took "Fearless'" spot on the fall schedule and has been performing marginally, although the network has picked up a full season of the family drama. "Fearless" joins an ignominious roster of shows -- including FOX's "The Grubbs," "Septuplets" and "Manchester Prep" -- that have been announced as part of network lineups in recent years but have never made it to the air.

Whoa, I just read it at www.bringmetolife.net forums! and TV Tome, I feel baddaddadada... whatever that is, but that's ok. I mean we knew it wasn't gonna make it, and definitely not the next buffy now.

hmm. well i cant say i'm too disappointed. with rachel leigh cook as gaia i never expected it to be that good. i guess i'm happier to not have it at all then to have it humiliated.

I don't excatly feel bad. I mean I wanted the show to air, and I would have watched it, but there was somthing missing. The concepts of the show weren't developed as well as I hoped they'd be in the show, that's one thing I agree with there.
There was another review I read, somewhere that said the show should have been more psychological (like what the effect of being fearless has on your partners and life), that's something I totally agree with, because then it would have a stronger storyline, than what I saw in the pilot. Oh well there's nothing much we can do about it.

I think that if they'd made it more like the books, it might actually have been a good enough how to air. But that could just be a biased opinion.

like someone onced told me, a seventeenyearold girl going to parks and kicking ass, it's all bad advertising.

I totally agree with you. But then again my opinion can be biased too. But the pilot seemed to be missing a large concept of the books. Maybe they would have been developed in later episodes, but the thing is, if ppl don't like the pilot, they usually don't bother to watch the rest of the episodes. That's why the pilot is really important, it has to draw ppl into the show.

FO.com is already gone.... premiere... ha! And everyone in there was like oh you guys are going to be crawling back when the show's a hit! Puh-Leeazzeee.
Domino - January 18, 2004 01:34 AM (GMT)
LOL, it is gone. Oh well. Yeah, but that was their atitude before they went on hiatus.
FGaia13 - January 18, 2004 05:22 AM (GMT)
well they had nothing to say after they were on hiatus did they? lol, I remember in there someone said that the show was going to be a huge hit and stuff, and that we were bookworms and anything that we might say would only make us look stupid in the future, tsk tsk tsk, that's why I never say things like that except I really believe it. And at the time the show wasn't looking that good either!!
Domino - January 18, 2004 06:30 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that was their attitude, and they called us a bunch of retards for doubting the show. But the fact of the matter, at that point in time, the show wasn't looking very good, and had alot of flaws that needed to be ironed out.

In a way i'm sad but I'm also happy. Because this means they won't end the books. Right??? I can sleep better now knowing RLC won't play Gaia. I mean could they've picked a person that look anymore different than the Gaia from the books.
FGaia13 - January 19, 2004 03:44 AM (GMT)
why would they end the books?
Domino - January 20, 2004 02:00 AM (GMT)
I don't think they would end the books. I know some ppl were worried that the books might change due to the show, but I don't think they were worried that they would end.
FGaia13 - January 20, 2004 06:15 AM (GMT)
i don't know if indeed anything would be change i don't think they'd end the books to start again, that's like a long list of fans they're kicking out the door!!
Smileforpeople - January 21, 2004 10:22 PM (GMT)
yea... :( about it not being a tv show...
but kinda glad i mean think of all the things that people were already criticizing it for and it's kinda hard to think of a plat for everysingle episode... so i duno but i would have at least like to have seen it once i guess :9
FGaia13 - January 22, 2004 03:30 AM (GMT)
yeah, they should give it another chance, but only if it's actually based on the books.
Domino - January 23, 2004 12:08 AM (GMT)
Or atleast closer to the books than it was before.
allyar - January 25, 2004 01:32 AM (GMT)
I'm glad it's not gonna air. RLC is cool but she's nothing like Gaia. They need to make Fearless movies instead!
